More than meets the eye UPDATE

Doug Thompson of Stephens Media has news of the disappearance of a federal case brought in Missouri against an Arkansas company led by Robbyn Tumey, a Democratic activist. Nothing there. Case closed. I'll be interested to hear what Tumey has to say now that the charges have gone away. The U.S. attorney's office that brought this case was deeply enmeshed in the Bush Justice Department's employment as a political tool. Tumey has been an irritant to Republicans in Fortress NW Ark., otherwise known as Benton County.

UPDATE: The Democrat-Gazette account adds important information. It says the case was dropped because of speedy trial rules but that it still could be refiled.

THANK YOU DOUG THOMPSON! Everyone who was involved in this charade knew it was a put up job.
Just maybe, come Jan 20 09 there can be an investigation into this. Racketeering should be considered.
.

I always wondered if this was a political hatchet job. I mean, Robbyn Tumey is the biggest thorn in the side of the Hutchinson clan (and NWA Republicans generally) and Asa is a former US Attorney. Maybe they were just flexing some muscle to try to tame her. And now, they dismiss the case without prejudice so they retain the option to refile charges? Sorta like hovering a cloud over her and saying, if you poke us again we'll run you up some legal bills and dirty you up...

Just a thought...

Whew...busy day! Here are the facts in this case. The same group, led by Karl Rove who put the former Governor of Alabama behind bars until just recently, were also behind putting the screws to Robbyn Tumey. Though they lost this case after dragging their heels for 2 years....they won. Their aim was to knock Robbyn out of her run for public office and to punish her for daring to buck the powers of Benton County.

They filed this frivolous lawsuit and accomplished their goals with ease. They won't be counting this as a loss....they got what they wanted. This could have been you or me. Since Cheney-Bush are still rolling along unimpeded, it still could happen to you or me. This is a big thing. There needs to be a Congressional investigation into the Swiftboating of Robbyn Tumey. What happened to her is the text book reason why our justice system shouldn't be politicized. It makes none of us safe.

It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out there were some Arkansas Republicans in cahoots with this bunch. Payback should be hell in this case. No one is safe when local people close to power can pull some strings and cause 2 years of suffering, pain, loss of reputation....not to mention zillions in lawyer fees to someone who just happens to be in the opposing political party . This is the GREAT EVIL on the local level. Heads should roll and big fat fines should be levied. Pay close attention to things like this because it lays so close to the bone.

Congratulations to the Tumey family for hanging tough and weathering this fray. You deserve more than nere vindication for sins you never committed. This story should be on the front page of every paper. And goddamn the Bush and all Bush Buddies!
