Arkansas first?
In at least one category it is, says this New York Times story, dateline Little Rock: It gives the most generous welfare aid to low-income workers. The Arkansas Work Pays Program allows cash payments of up to $204 to participants, who must perform at least 24 hours of paid work a week. The income limit for a family of three is $2,146, and participants can continue to receive aid for 24 months. The program, administered by the Department of Workforce Services, began in 2006.
