The Insider reported last week that a recent feature on "Power Women" in the society magazine Soiree was a paid feature and that, among the payees, was the city of Little Rock, which paid $1,770 for Vice Mayor Stacy Hurst's profile and photograph.

"In April 2008 when Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita announced the release of "record high" voter registration rolls, with 4.3 million voters set to vote in the Tuesday May 6 primary, he didn't mention that a whopping 1,134,427 voter registrations have been cancelled.
Now, the voter rolls are supposed to be tidied up prior to each election. Indiana's last general election was in Nov. 2006, and they have had a slew of special and general elections since then. So how have 1.1 million voters -- 26 percent of the current statewide list -- escaped the regularly scheduled voter registration cleanup squads? Who are these million voters and where do they come from?
One quarter-million of them come from just two northwestern Indiana counties: Lake and Porter. Lake County reports purging 137,164 voters and neighboring Porter County cancelled out 124,958 voters.
Lake County, the home of Gary, Indiana, has spawned the Jackson Five and a great old musical (The Music Man) and and has been referred to as "the second most liberal county in America." Lake County has one of the heaviest concentrations of African-American voters that you'll find anywhere in the USA.
HERE'S WHERE THE HEAVIEST PURGES ARE:
Lake 137,164 48% (Gary)
Porter 124,958 115% (Valparaiso)
Marion 68,120 10% (Indianapolis)
Monroe 66,009 85% (Bloomington)
Tippecanoe 53,456 58%
Madison 42,952 47% (Anderson)
Hamilton 42,325 26% "
Lake 137,164 48% (Gary)...Very interesting!!!

"So I hear that Village High Commissioner Tim Russert declared that we have a Democratic nominee. The Town Crier, Drudge, immediately followed with an official announcement The real leadership of our nation --- the punditocricy -- have handed down their decision. Hallelujah!" -Digby link
Oh, seriously, give me a friggin' break.
Anyone want to play with the delegate calculator? You have 15 values to choose from for Hillary to beat Barack Obama: she can either win anywhere from 86% to 100% of the remaining vote. So if she pulls off some stunners in the next few months, say, across the board wins of 86% to 14%, she wins.

And honestly, it's kind of shocking to think about how much of a hack you have to be to still be pushing for Hillary at this point in the race. She can't win at all, and she's a complete an egomaniac to continue.

While Obama tried to improve his appeal among working-class whites, the exit poll found a 64-35 percent Clinton advantage in this group in Indiana (and 71-26 percent in North Carolina); she won them by 61-32 percent in all previous primaries to date.
Continuing the same socioeconomic division that's marked the primaries all year, white college graduates divided evenly, 49-50 percent in Indiana, and 53-46 percent in North Carolina.
The Racial Divide
As noted, the racial makeup of the electorates themselves played a major role. Blacks accounted for 34 percent of North Carolina voters and 91 percent of them supported Obama. Against that voting bloc Clinton would have needed 70 percent of non-black voters; she fell well short, with 59 percent.

Maybe I'll be egregiously wrong, but I've maintained since early Marach that it's virtually impossible for her to come back due to the pledged delegates gap. It was shot down a few times, but I think my position has fared pretty well.
And now for other segments that went to Obama, Meet John Doe:
% of vote % for Obama
IN: People with college degrees 35 56
NC: People with college degrees 44 57
IN: First time primary voters 19 69
NC: First time primary voters 22 60
IN: Independents 23 54
NC: Independents 19 45*
IN: Liberals 39 56
NC: Liberals 42 63
IN: Urban 33 60
NC: Urban 27 66
IN: White 17-29 year-olds 12 54
NC: White 17-29 year-olds 8 57
IN: All 17-29 year-olds 17 61
NC: All 17-29 year-olds 14 74

Yeah, and again....all of those figures but one include the over 90% support from black voters.
I'm still waiting for you to show those same groups with just white voters like you did the youngest voter group. That was the only group of whites that Obama won.
When the Democratic primary is this racist, just imagine how racially split the vote will be in the fall. Blacks voters are a much smaller group in the fall and they have traditionally voted for the Democrat anyway.
Hillary couldn't overcome black racism and she lost the nomination.
If Obama can't overcome white racism, he will lose the presidency.
Sad but true....

MJD, How can you not understand that voters vote in their best self interests? A union worker will vote in his or her interests; a wall street broker will vote in his or her best interests; a black person will vote in his or her best interests.
So how is voting for Barack Obama because he a) inspires black people to reach higher b)will improve racial relations, etc, racist? Minorities are in large part DEFINED by their race; it affects where they work, their relationships with other people, etc long before their personal characters are even considered.
Why is it racist for minorities to vote for an issue that is, pretty honestly, a defining feature of who they are? You're like one of those people Stephen Colbert makes fun of, those who "do not see race."
Don't invoke that "MLK would not be happy" BS (as you did on your post on the previous thread) when you have such a superficial understanding of race to begin with. Like I said before, there are specific nuances here to take note of; you cannot draw simple minded causality by saying that more black votes for Obama means racism.

"MJD, How can you not understand that voters vote in their best self interests?"
So a black candidate is in the best interests of black voters? How very racist of you.
And for your information you little twit, I marched during the civil rights movement. I'm sure that was before you were even born.

I see two forms of blatant racism surrounding Obama - both pro and con. Those Blacks who see him as a Black man with a white woman trying to deny him the presidency and support him because he is Black are just as racist, IMO, as those whites who wouldn't vote for any Black man and perpetuate the idea he is a Muslim sent here to destroy the US.

Clinton's inner circle sincerely believed that the 'nuclear option' at the rules committee would be their salvation. Now they can only hope that Obama makes a huge mistake that tarnishes his 'electability'. So rather than withdraw now and endorse Obama, she'll "suspend the campaign" and let him twist in the wind for a while until the convention. There will be no "dream ticket", but she'll offer a perfunctory endorsement during her prime-time speech.

If I was a woman, I'd be voting for Hillary. If I was a black person, I'd be voting for Barack. I am an old white man and I WILL NOT be voting for John McCain. So I can crow that I am not racist or sexist or age-ist. But surely I started posting for something more important........oh yeah.
I predict Hillary will stay in until, what is it, June 3rd, when West Virginia and Kentucky go for her, as predicted. She's got nothing to lose and it would be worse for Barack if she pulled out now and she still beat him in those 2 states. It won't hurt a damn thing if she stays in until then. You can bet your sweet bippy that there is lots of negotiations going on between the Clinton and Obama camp.
No matter if she winds up on the ticket or not, they have to hash out how to go forward and let her save face while not damaging Obama. The talking heads say and I agree, to expect neither of them to go on the attack against the other for the rest of this month. We can watch and see if they're right.
If we have any kind of a fair election this fall, assuming we have an election at all, McCain will set new records for being buried alive. He'll make Barry Goldwater's crushing defeat in '64 look like a squeaker. The whole country is pissed at the Republicans. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney have destroyed the Republican Party. Don't expect your big Republican friends to crow about it, but they're not going to vote for McCain either.
These are the Bush chickens coming home to roost. If you bought a bag of groceries at Wal-Mart and when you got home your bag was full of shit.......would you shop at Wal-Mart again? If you took your car to get the tires rotated and when you went to pick it up it was demolished, would you keep doing business with that outfit? Do you regularly invite the guy who raped your daughter over for Sunday dinner? Who do you think the family, friends, church buddies, and co-workers of our 4073 dead US troops will be voting for this fall?
American are pretty dim these days, but Cheney-Bush have FK'ed up everything they've touched and let die everything they didn't touch, but should have. 74% say our country is plumb FK'ed up. And this gigantic load of shit is going to dump on McCain like Mt. St. Helen's blowing up over his luxury Arizona ranch. Very few are stupid enough to vote Republican this time. I know some older Republicans who will not vote for the first time since they came of age during WWII.
But we gotta have an election and we have to have a fairly honest election and we have to have a LIVE nominee when Nov. 4th rolls around. Those things are far more important than if Hillary stays a week or a month. More important than preachers. More important than anything else. We have the biggest evil on our soil since the British invaded America in the fall of 1812. It's the neo-con faction of the Republican Party. You can't imagine the evil they're fixin to throw at us. So save your venom for that fight. Hillary and Barack know what they're doing....they'll settle it between them and let us know the results.
PS Twice as many American troops have died in Iraq than died in the entire War of 1812. The best reason to never vote Republican again!

She is willing to fuck the Democratic Party, (and maybe the American Nation) by destroying Obama, letting a Repub win in 2008 if it positions her for 2012.
Problem is that 45% of the US hates her now and the others catch on a little slower.
(If the Dems had nominated Edwards, he would have beaten McCain 60 - 40. The election would be over.)

Well clearly if this primary has proven anything it is that blacks are racist and white women are both racist and sexist. This should really enhance the relative moral position of the maligned white male as he continues to enjoy his position at the top of society, making him the hidden winner of this fight.

I'm seeing a lot of ignorance (hi, Meet John Doe!) floating around about racism.
You know what's racist? The Republican Party has 247 elected officials at the federal level. None of them are black.
The Republican Party is a racist institution, which has built its power by picking up the racists who left the Democratic Party thanks to Lyndon Baines Johnson's long-term vision and will to do what was right.
That's racism.
As to the voting patterns of blacks indicating that blacks are racist:
I was looking at photographs from the Civil Rights Movement days, and I noticed that all their leadership was black. Gosh! I guess that means the Civil Rights Movement was racist!
Not.

Calling it as "a silly question," Sen.-elect Barack Obama (D-IL) pledged "he would resist any overtures to run for president or vice president before the end of his six-year term as a U.S. senator," the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Said Obama: "I was elected yesterday. I have never set foot in the U.S. Senate. I've never worked in Washington. And the notion that somehow I'm immediately going to start running for higher office just doesn't make sense."
November 4, 2004
-------------------------------------------------
"Barack Obama announced on Saturday Feb. 10 that he would run for president. Surrounded by thousands, Obama carefully laid out the goals he has for the U.S. and how those can be achieved."
"...Drawing particularly on the youth of the nation, Obama called for "our generation" to be the ones to step forward and make a change.
"For that is our unyielding faith - that in the face of impossible odds, people who love their country can change it," he said." 2/12/07

Well call me hack zelda...'cause if Hillary wants to keep running till June, let her. Heck, Michigan/Florida have already been disenfranchised so why not tell the rest of the states their votes don't count. If she keeps going till June it AIN'T hurting anyone except Obama's supporters who've been calling for her to quit for months. I sure hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid McBush will cream Obama...ESPECIALLY given the Florida fiasco. (Who the hell needs Florida to win the presidency, ha.) I've also lost some respect for Obama because of the roadblocks he's put up against another vote for Michigan/Florida...ironically, Obama would do well in Michigan. (Don't worry, McBush will NEVER get my vote.) I just wish that Obama's actions matched his rhetoric better.
And, Mudturtle, you're absolutely right...Edwards would have been a shoe-in against McCain.
If anyone is voting for or against someone just because of skin color, I call that racism. If someone is voting for or against someone strictly because of gender, I call that sexism. I wouldn't vote for a woman just because she's a woman...see Warrior Princess, Condi...but if all other considerations are equal, I'll go with my gender...given that it's about fucking time!! So I understand a black voting for Obama if they think he represents their concerns better than Hillary. I don't understand anyone voting for a black/white just because he/she is black/white...see Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson/McBush/Monkeyboy.
Howard Dean/John Kerry/Donna Brazile/Bill Richardson will never get my vote/support for ANYTHING. Plus, any of Obama's supporters (mainly the politicians/public figures) who've said they would riot in Denver if anyone dared take the nomination from Obama or that they would not vote for Hillary regardless, will never get my support. One of the greatest ironies of this race is the labeling of Hillary as someone who thinks she's entitled to the nomination by many of Obama's supporters; because much of Obama's candidacy has reeked of entitlement (not him, his supporters).

zelda,
I heard Hillary on the morning news saying that the campaign was now about figuring out who was going to be the best candidate. I take that to mean she's going to run against McCain for the rest of the primary season. She has my respect for that.
