McCain's pastor II UPDATE
John McCain has jettisoned the vile John Hagee. But what about Rod Parsley? He hasn't distanced himself from Parsley, who is equally odious and who has called for the destruction of Islam.
UPDATE: Call it a political deathbed conversion. McCain, who went to Ohio in February to embrace Parsley, now has decided -- since some light is being shed on Parsley's long history of intolerance -- that he doesn't want his endorsement after all. Of course he now has the Republican nomination. He needed Parsley to go after evangelicals earlier. Now, situational ethics apply.

Comments
This is a watershed year. Both major candidates find it necessary to ditch the god squad. Maybe there's hope after all. I have no doubt McBush believes none of what Haggee or Parsley spew but they're usually good for votes and money, the real god of USA.

If we expect McCainal to denounce every single crazy, white televangelist that spews non-stop bile from his mouth, who will he turn to to get out the Religious Right vote? Arkansas Red simply doesn't have a big enough following (and is totally gay for Bill Clinton anyway).

per the Huffington Post.. McCain HAS added Parsely to the "list"... name/link
Then in an interview with The Associated Press, McCain said he rejected Parsley's support, too.
"I believe there is no place for that kind of dialogue in America, and I believe that even though he endorsed me, and I didn't endorse him, the fact is that I repudiate such talk, and I reject his endorsement," McCain told the AP.
McCain tried Thursday to draw a distinction between the Obama-Wright connection and his own relationships with Parsley and Hagee, saying Hagee was not his pastor.
"My church I attend is North Phoenix Baptist Church; my pastor and spiritual guide is Pastor Dan Yeary," McCain said. "I've never been to Pastor Hagee's church or Pastor Parsley's church. I didn't attend their church for 20 years. I'm not a member of their church."
Parsley did not return a message for comment left after business hours at World Harvest Church in suburban Columbus.

It's all over the news today that McCain refused to accept the endorsement of crazy Parsely.
ARK. BLOG: I'll take your word for it and take a look. But, as with Hagee, it certainly took him a while to reach that refusal. He's been very chummy previously. And Parsley's extremism isn't exactly news.

Max, you and others might want to bookmark Cliff Schecter's new blog diggs at firedoglake.. He's one of the go to guys on all things McInsane. (at my name)
ARK. BLOG: Bravo. We all have our obsessions. I count on those with others to keep us posted.

LOVE these religious endorsers! Hagee, Parsley, Bin Laden -- LOVE 'EM!
The candidates they endorse bank on your not having read the Holy Books in their entirety (neither have the candidates, obviously).
It's one thing for Parsley to (accurately) denounce the Koran and Islam as out to destroy everybody who's not a Muslim. Bin Laden (accurately) says the same thing about Islam. It's another for Parsley to announce (accurately) to his flock that, "America was created to destroy Islam."
Uh, wait a minute. Maybe they're all saying the same thing.
Yeah, I'm all hyperventilating that John McCain has JUST rejected his religious psychopaths' "endorsements."
What a mensch.
But it's getting harder to accept ANY religious political endorsement, sought or accepted, since they're all couched to win the embrace of the LARGEST body of religious voters. Pandering, in other words.
Anybody who actually bothers to READ the "holy books" of Judaism, Christianity or Islam knows what they say.
Once read, there can be no question that religious clashes for power and dominance lie at the ugly heart of all the world's wars, past and present, where "god" is used to marshal the troops and conquer the non-believers and blasphemers.
You know. Where god tells this tribe that this land is theirs for all eternity, then turns around and tells the neighboring tribe that the same land is THEIRS for all eternity, I mean, what kind of vicious game is god playing?
Last century there was Hitler (6 million) and Stalin (25 million). Think Stalin's wasn't a "religious" war? Think again (or click my blue name below, for one of many such sources).
Last week 11 women were burned to death in Kenya for "witchcraft." This is progress?
If a Presidential candidate accepts ONE religious endorsement but not another (say, rejecting the Unitarian Universalist church, which is fine with same-sex marriage), then that candidate promotes one religion over another, which is the same as supporting a state-sponsored religion, which is Constitutionally illegal.
Since when is religionism more important than competence, for the job of POTUS?
All I know is that if gays and lesbians can cause Katrina I'm anxious to see what they'll do with the upcoming election.
Plus, I LOVE Bette Midler.

Hopefully, this disaster will prevent future nominees from trying to round up an embrace from any religious group to further their political career. This is a perfect example of why church and state should remain solidly separate forever!

muleboy303, Thank you for noticing. In a previous life, I was an editor. One of the least of the editorial skills is picking out what's interesting, and it's nice to see I still have at least that low-level functionality going.
