Obama's ploy

John Brummett departs from most pundits' script. He says Bush was talking about Jimmy Carter in Israel, not Obama, when he referenced appeasement of terrorists. He says Obama just used the opportunity to make hay from it. Could be. But there's no doubting that John McCain gleefully weighed in to pounce on Obama for being soft on the terrorists that he once himself proposed to talk with.

it does seem possible that the speechwriters for W could've not understood the larger context of such remarks and were focused on Carter's humiliation of them while sucking up to their audience.

but it doesn't really matter what they were thinking. what does matter is that as soon as the primary results made it possible, Obama demonstrated his ability to counter-attack, not once but twice in the same day (after McCain's me-too remarks)

for Obama a win-win. showing he CAN and WILL attack/defend on a moments notice, and being criticized by the most (or 2nd most after Cheney) unpopular politician in the land.

It really makes no difference what the writers had in mind when they prepared bush's speech because everytime bush open's his mouth he reinforces the idea he is an idiot. I don't know who they were attacking or who they were sucking up to, but they don't understand the subject yet they continue to open mouth and look stupid.

Note to bush and mccain - keep your mouths shut until you have something cogent to say.

I realize that John Brummett is on the Arkansas Times' payroll, but do any of your readers really pay attention to anything he says about the national political scene? He may still have valuable resources for stories about state and local politics, but his access to information about and his grasp of national politics are no better than that of most of AT Blog regulars.

McCain said Hamas wants Obama to win. It was addressed on The Daily Show.

McCain exposed as a hypcrite. Two years ago he advocated talking to the the Hamas. Want the proof to sent to your right wing nut friends? Click on Cato.

Yikes....it appears Ted Kennedy has had a stroke!
Deathbyinches

Yeah, reaction after Huckabee's attempted humor yesterday about shooting a presidential candidate. Bad memories.

It's about damn time Democrats (and other sentient human beings) demonstrated their offense to McBush's words..

What's most surprising is he MSM gave it any attention.. Even the WH was surprised by it. These people have been so sheltered from the consequences of their words and actions for so long... They will have nothing to stand on if the debate is allowed to take place on anything resembling an even keel.

To the Hague!

Do it for Kennedy, do it for the USA!

"In October, Kennedy had surgery to repair a nearly complete blockage in a major neck artery. The discovery was made during a routine examination of a decades-old back injury."

Boy, so glad Teddy made it across that bridge of serious medical complications.

(Just had to steal the fire from subsequent Wingnuts. Nothing else to see here.)

Back to Bush, appeasers- sympathizers:

The two Holocaust survivors suing the US government and the Bush family for a total of $40bn in compensation claim both materially benefited from Auschwitz slave labour during the second world war, Kurt Julius Goldstein, 87, and Peter Gingold, 85, began a class action in America in 2001, but the case was thrown out by Judge Rosemary Collier on the grounds that the government cannot be held liable under the principle of "state sovereignty".

I cannot think of one Democrat who can boast this kind of lineage. Can you? No, I don't think so. But you can lie brazenly and attack a sitting US Senator on foreign soil by comparing him to Nazi sympathizers? Let us continue down memory lane to help those who applaud you understand just what it is they are celebrating.

The All American Traitor

You family did not stop with supporting fascists and Nazis abroad, did they Mr. Bush? Surely you must know of your grandfather's role in the treasonous plot of 1933 to overthrow democracy in America? Let me remind you.

Grandpa Bush - that is to say, your grandfather - wanted fascism imported into the United States, or as you now call this type of transformation, "exporting democracy." Prescott went so far as to subsidize a coup attempt in order to achieve his dream of a fascist America (see BBC report below):

Document uncovers details of a planned coup in the USA in 1933 by right-wing American businessmen. The coup was aimed at toppling President Franklin D Roosevelt with the help of half-a-million war veterans. The plotters, who were alleged to involve some of the most famous families in America, (owners of Heinz, Birds Eye, Goodtea, Maxwell Hse & George Bush's Grandfather, Prescott) believed that their country should adopt the policies of Hitler and Mussolini to beat the great depression. Mike Thomson investigates why so little is known about this biggest ever peacetime threat to American

In other words, not only was your grandfather a self-professed fascist, he was a Nazi sympathizer and a war profiteer who should have stood trial at the Hague instead of buying his way into the US Senate. He was also a traitor, twice over.

Now clearly the crimes of Prescott Bush are not your fault, Mr. George W. Bush. Let us therefore judge your actions and words on their own merit.

Iraq is your Poland
I will therefore make your history lesson brief, but to the point. The unprovoked attack on Poland by Germany was a war crime just as your attack against Iraq - based on lies - is a war crime. This is not my opinion. This is not a political attack. This is a fact. Consider the words of the esteemed former chief prosecutor in the Nuremburg trials, Benjamin Ferencz, regarding your war of aggression against Iraq:

"...Prima facie case can be made that the United States is guilty of the supreme crime against humanity, that being an illegal war of aggression against a sovereign nation."

Moreover, your reckless verbiage and partisan pandering using something as tragic and criminal as Germany's war of aggression against Poland is an insult to all victims of those atrocities.

Entire story on Blue-

Thank you Lwood, Larisa is one of the best!

I don't know why it still amazes me so few Americans actually know the truth about the Bush family. Their love of fascism and dictators...not to forget their profiteering off of them and endless wars. (google Carlyle Group)

History will of course not be kind to them nor should it be kind to us, the people and our deliberate ignorance of informations so vitally important which has been so readily available.

BTW, Lwood, on a lighter note... I seem to have about twenty dark dark purple Iris's among the couple of thousand surrounding my house.. Not really enough to thin out yet.. I'll keep my ears open for any neighbors who might be thinning out dark purples and let ya know if I hear of any..)

My world is black, black............
all those young (er) gals, at my rag shops say they will vote for Mcbush if Obama is the
nominee,,,,they believe all that slop on the internet. I have talked myself blue in the face,
even printed facts to take them, but, they believe the lies.
Don't bother me with facts, my mind is made up.
There are none so blind as those who choose not to see.

That's what I find too, Jazzy. I'm afraid all those blind folks are going to give us a senile war monger for president this Nov.

Oh, Ci.Ci, it just made me sick, I didn't stay long, felt like I was going to bawl or blow my top,
maybe land in the pokey, for an overnight cool off.
Came home and Frenchie met me, to help get my legs out of this little car, and I was fit to be
tied.......he said, *Well, I guess you didn't have a good trip.*----------haha

Don't worry jazzy and Ci Ci..there are plenty of places where the change is happening.. remember that Saturday progressive web activity I mentioned? Well todays link at my name. (note: good golly, the womenfolk on one of my email lists are going insane over this guys looks.. too damn funny)

Aw, Eureka....I shoulda stood home and watched that link on firedoglake.......DAMN,,,,,
I can't abide stupidity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hubby said its like the woman who voted for idiot because, *he would stop abortion.*

Thanks, Lwood....gonna have to study on this, as I have everything about this dang
machine of the devil,,,haha
I have a wonderful guru to help me, when she has a free moment, but, her young fingers
just fly (ALiJB) over the keys and mouse....I sit here, mouth agape, making noise like, *unh huh,*
found I usually find the answer when I sit here, with a clear head and dogged determination.
Its usually so simple and I try to make it difficult.

On Countdown last night in a big story on "appeasement", they implied that the press was informed before the speech that Bush would be making remarks about Obama. They seem to think he backed off from using Obama's name or attacking too strongly but that it was still Obama he was referencing. If it wasn't, why would the White House be hinting to the press in advance of the speech that Obama was going to be targeted in some way during the speech? Get everyone there to follow the speech then deny it afterwards?!? Sounds like more of the usual tricks. And why use the occasion of a speech in another country to make a political statement? Bad diplomacy if you ask me. Totally inappropriate.

jazzy & Ci.Ci- to balance your concerns, at least somewhat, allow me to share a story. This afternoon an elderly female Republican friend stopped by our house. Our politics have always been polar opposites.

At one point she cautiously asked me what I thought of Barack Obama, and I told her. She told me she cannot stand McCain, and that alone coming from her was almost shocking. She also mentioned how Republicans have screwed up everything they have touched.

At one point she asked me if I had heard the rumor- I swallowed hard, given the subject of our conversation. I expected her to ask me if I thought Obama was a closet Muslim or hated America. But, no, instead she said her brother had told her about a rumor that the Republicans plan to invade Iran.

I can guarantee you she voted for Bush both times, but she is now more likely to either vote for Obama (assuming he is the Democratic nominee) or not vote at all before she would vote for McCain. All this from a white female in her 70s who is a conservative Republican (no knee jerk like the fundamentalists, but still conservative).

Our conversation left me feeling better the rest of the day. Maybe there is good reason for the audacity of hope? That and the fact (RasmussenReports.com) that 79% of Americans think the country is on the wrong track while only 15% (where do they find these people?) amazingly think we are on the right track.

Jazzy, just keep reminding them of all the soldiers who will die if McCain is elected.
Sooner or later it will get though to them.
