Real issues on display

Tired of Rev. Wright? Then let's look at a real issue -- gas prices -- Brummett suggests. All three candidates fail, he writes, Obama less badly than the other two.

Comments

In other news, a former DNC chair who endorsed Hillary! has now switched camps.

On this issue I'll agree with Brummett...both Hillary/McBush's plans suck and are just more of the same ole dog/pony show that puts a bandaid on a decapitated economy. At least Hillary acknowledges the gas tax can't be suspended without replacing the resource. The more McBush offers up solutions, however, the more disastrous a McBush presidency looks...something I didn't think was possible. His 'idea' (more like a brain fart) to address the country's healthcare crisis would be funny if it wasn't such a disastrous proposal. What few companies that are left offering healthcare to their employees would be pushed over the edge by taking away the healthcare tax break they now get. And he could offer us a $100,000 tax incentive and it wouldn't do us any good 'cause, like so many people, we've got one of those pre-existing Albatrosses hanging around our necks. What good are tax breaks when insurance companies won't touch you for any amount of money or if outrageously expensive coverage excludes the very conditions you need insurance for? Plus what good is a tax break when...oh never mind.

The more McBush speaks details the more scared I am. He is an idiot who is completely out of touch with everything...except the already gorged military industrial complex and his own ego.

Hillary must really threaten you, Red. It's understandable, though.

No, she doesn't.

I just want the drama to keep going through Denver.

I'm stockpiling the popcorn to watch that train wreck.

Real issue? The real issue is the weak US dollar which is causing the spike in oil and is responsible for 2/3 of the gas price increases.

If something is not done to reduce gas prices, our economy is going to crash and burn.

There will be no train wreck, Red, other than our economy followed by McBush's candidacy in November.

You're absolutely correct, Bold and Blue. If we had a president who gave a damn about anything other than his precious disaster in Iraq or his precious oil company buds, he'd be worried. Hell, he doesn't even worry about his legacy given that his paid 'academic' stooges have already written the Bush family's version of history.

Enough of this innuendo and rumor-mongering. By the way, I heard that O'Bama will name Al Sharpton to a cabinet position. A guy in the scullery told me.

Well, at least you acknowledge the reality of the situation: John McCain will win in November.

UH-OH, the Limbaugh talking oink's: Government needs to leave the oil companies alone and let them practice their LOVE...Pelosi has all the super-delegates lined up for Obama, under the QUEEN BEE theory (not enough room in DC for both) to get Obama the nod...

Funny, Louie, I heard Sharpton was pissed at Obama 'cause he wouldn't call for riots following the acquittal of those New York police officers. But I also heard (from my double-secret source) that Obama talks to Sharpton weekly...planning how they'll enslave us white folks.

I despise Sharpton's so-called politics. He's a greedy hypocrite who's on par with the crookedest white politician. There is no comparison between his greasy politics and Obama's.

McBush doesn't stand a chance, Red, unless, of course, the Republicans steal another election. The economy/rising gas prices will make Obama or Hillary look like God's gifts compared to McBush's 100-year war and 'tax-breaks cure all' philosophy. Keep em coming, McBush!

Zelda - Don't forget McCheney's health care lobbyist first plan.. It's written by lobbyists and would actually render more people uninsured.. But his talking points are right out of the Huckabee campaign.. diet and exorcism

Zelda,
Watch who you're calling white.

No racial slur intended, Louie. And, I'll try to be more careful whom I saddle with that white label...it's a heavy burden these days.

Eureka...McBush's healthcare retread doesn't come close to being a solution. In fact, it'll make things worse than they are right now

I just noticed the Stephens Media ads on here. I guess that explains the constant promotion of Brummett articles.

ARK. BLOG: There are no Stepens Media ads on our website. We have a cooperative agreement to allow us to link to stories on their Arkansas news website as a way of giving our readers one-stop access to a broader variety of Arkansas news. They pay nothing for that spot. We pay Stephens Media a monthly fee for the right to reprint articles produced by their Little Rock news bureau, primarily John Brummett. I cite Brummett frequently because he's a veteran commentator on Arkansas politics and, since he writes four times a week but can appear only once in our newspaper, I'm happy to give him additional exposure on our blog. Your apology is accepted.

Sorry but I'm not offering an apology because you're not due one.

Regardless if they pay money for the ad, it's still and ad. You admit you have a deal with them which was my assumption. The fact you give them free ad space (call it a "spot" if you want) only strengthens my point. Of course there's nothing wrong with having a deal with them, and if you really think Brummett's articles are that good, that's

I seldom read a Brummett column that says anything I haven't already heard said or read before, or anything insightful. I find your short posts more insightful than his full articles. The few times I do read his columns, I feel like I just wasted a few minutes of my life.

By the way, you should link to your own columnists more who have much better columns than Brummett. Don't assume that just because people come to the blog that they read the rest of the site.

Hillary pandering (again) to people's misconceptions about the economics of oil? Say it ain't true. You expect band-aid loony fixes from the party that believes in Faith-Based Missile Defense Systems. We should hold our candidates to a higher standard.

Both Demo candidates are pandering about the realities of nationalized health care. I don't care how you slice the health care pie there will be huge shortages. The economics of health care is that demand for product-services is unknowable. The more access people have-the higher demand goes.

The first reasonable step for nationalized or universal health care is the creation of more qualified personnel and facilities. We learned that with Medicare which did the stupid thing of increasing demand without a corresponding increase in supply. Prices soared and have never quit soaring.

Both Hillary and Obama's health care plans are deeply flawed. They will increase demand for services
using private insurance as medium to distribute services. If they truly want to improve health care in this nation first begin a program that targets future medical personnel while in high school and set them on a career path with gov. paid educational costs. Create more medical schools and nursing schools while changing the gate-keepers.

Lord you sound just like a Republican. People are already in the system. They just go to the emergency room instead of a regular doctor. We are already paying for the uninsured through higher health care costs. That's why our current system is so stupid. We could save money overall, free up emergency rooms, and hospitals beds if people were provided proper preventative care. Instead our system makes the uninsured wait till it's an emergency and more expensive to treat before they can get treatment.

I can't believe you of all people have bought into that Republican lie.
