Take that, Brummett
John Brummett has been covering that Court of Appeals race in NWA where Ron Williams, member of the Hutchinson extended family, is facing a well-funded and politically astute opponent in Courtney Henry. Williams made a critical mistake in hiring wackjob Sen. Jim Holt to help him campaign. Maybe that's a sign of bad judgment; maybe Holt just knows where to stick campaign signs.
In any case, the Brummett attack has brought a fierce response -- not from Holt, but from his wife. Read on the jump.
(Why do I think John will get another column about this?)
LETTER FROM BOBYE HOLT
John Brummett Rebuttal
Well, they're at it again... the liberals in the media that is.
You really need to understand how much is at stake in our election for judges in this year's race for Court of Appeals.
You MUST read the following article by John Brummett at:
http://www.nwaonline.net/articles/2008/05/14/columns/john_brummett/051508brummett.txt
Notice this paragraph
"Hutchinson had hired for consultant services one Jim Holt, the extremist Republican from Springdale who wants to deny humane services to illegal immigrants and edit evolution out of the school textbooks, among other affronts."
John wants us to believe that my husband wants to deny HUMANE services to illegal immigrants. Not true. Jim has NEVER said that.
First of all, John needs to define 'humane.'
Jim, along with others, kept illegals from receiving scholarships on your dime. He also said they should not receive any tax funded, non-federally mandated benefits. One of those would have been prenatal care. Jim never said prenatal care could not be given to illegals, he just said they should have to pay for it themselves just as you and I do. Jim just thought, like most of us, that if we knew of an illegal being in the U.S. they should be turned in to the authorities for committing a crime just like we are supposed to do for other crimes. Yes, even if that person is pregnant. Friends, we can do that humanely, without any cruelty.
It is also not true that John Brummett stated that Jim wanted to take evolution out of the textbooks. Jim was a science and pre-med major in college and loves science. He believes in MICRO evolution, which is change over time and adaptation within a species. This is science. It is observable and repeatable.
What Jim's bill did was to not use our tax dollars for fraudulent information. This information had to be proven false by the SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY, not the church. The evidences they use to substantiate MACRO evolution (not micro evolution, as in the previous paragraph) has been proven and accepted as complete frauds by the scientific community; yet they still exist in our children's textbooks. Haeckel's embryos were proven false, and he was convicted of fraud in 1874 by his own university; yet his DRAWINGS are in still in our children's textbooks today, even after 134 years!
John Brummett was at that entire committee meeting and he knows everything I'm saying is true. We have the entire committee meeting on tape, and there was John observing intently. His heart was stirred, he admitted to this later; but, the problem is John has a problem with God. He refuses to accept God's love for him. And John is bitter at God for the bad things John has seen happen to his family and to people. He blames God for the bad things of this world.
So, IF you believe you should turn someone in that is committing a crime, IF you believe in God, and IF you want to edit LIES out of our children's textbooks, then you are a RADICAL EXTREMIST TOO, and you MUST BE STOPPED AT ALL COSTS:)! And his pen has been dicing my husband for years, more painful than any sword.
More from Brummett:
"Hiring Jim Holt is not a partisan act?
Not at all, says the young Tim Hutchinson. Candidates need consultants. They are entitled to hire them for professional services without having the political predilections of those consultants held against the candidate, Hutchinson tells me."
Another blatant omission, is that Tim Hutchinson Jr. asked John Brummett if he could name him one, JUST ONE, political consultant who wasn't partisan. John Brummett could not, but he leaves this entire KEY POINT out of the argument.
Ron's opponent has hired a partisan democrat consultant, but they seem to miss that point too. Such is the norm for the liberal media, only focusing on what they want, to make ANY conservative look bad.
So, my fellow extremists, the question is what are WE going to do about it?
It is past time for, we the people, to quit listening to the liberal media, and elect true Americans to office, not socialists.
My husband asked John Brummett once if he was a socialist. John replied, "No, I'm just a very strong liberal, with strong socialistic leanings."
Right. Right out of the horses mouth. And if he and other members of the media are doing everything they can to help Ms. Henry, what does that tell you about her?
Last time my husband sent you an email, the media made much ado about Jim not mentioning that Ron Williams had hired him. Jim agreed to be a consultant reluctantly because he would be losing money in his business and Jim had ALREADY volunteered every spare amount of time that he had. We believe in Ron that much.
The media also didn't tell you what they all admitted to but the editor took it out of the story. That Jim said, "I wouldn't work for her [the liberal Ms. Henry] if she offered me a billion dollars." Another omission!
So, once again my fellow extremists, the question is what are WE going to do about it?
It is past time for, we the people, to quit listening to and believing the liberal media, and to elect true Americans to office, not socialists.
Remember, as Samuel Adams said,
" It does not take a majority to prevail…but rather an IRATE ~ TIRELESS ~ MINORITY keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the people's minds."
Folks, "The price of liberty is eternal vigilence "!
We need Ron Williams elected to this important position. I don't know about you but I like the thought of having people in leadership, especially the judicial branch. Remember what just happened in California yesterday?
This election is going to be determined this coming Tuesday, May 20 th . Please do all you can to help pass out literature for Ron Williams, donate to his campaign, forward this email to other home schoolers, make phone calls to your friends and family to vote for Ron Williams for Court of Appeals.
This is URGENT! We need ALL HANDS ON DECK for this Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday!
Please contact me for literature and exactly what we must do.
May God bless you and your family and pray He will bless America again .
Join the fight,
Bobye Holt
wife of Former Senator Jim Holt This race covers seven counties: Benton, Washington, Crawford, Carroll, Madison, Franklin, and Johnson.

Comments
To understand where Mrs. Holt is coming from you have to understand the mind set of the ultra right.
In her mind, liberal = socialism which equates = communism. That same line of thinking would mean conservative = fascism which equate = nazism. Her comment, " we must elect true Americans to office, not socialists" is another ringer in which she empatically decrees anything other than conservative philosophy is un American. I don't know what she would do with Eugene Debs, Norman Thomas and other well known American socialists. I guess she would assign them to the ash pile of untrustworthy patriots.
I always wonder about people who think as Mrs. Holt does about these economic issues. I wonder if she were running for political office just which socialist programs she would advocate abolishing since they are un American. Would she campaingn on eradicating Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, minimum wages, TVA, FDIC, unemployment compensation, workers compensation and other socialist programs this nation has adopted? It would make for an interesting campaign if she would put her actions where her mouth is.

Cowards behind the skirt.
Typical - Williams/Hutchinson got little tracton on their press release crying that Henry was sending out direct mail to both D's and R's - partisan politics and all. I guess the "boys" have no respect for the intelligence of the voter - with their logic, if you walk into a church carrying a gun - you say what gun? oh that gun? it's harmless but it's really not a gun - cause I have no intentions of using it as a gun - ya, I paid for the gun but again it's not really a gun - JHC. So, Holt's not partisan and hiring Holt really wasn't hiring Holt to pull in the fringe Shiite vote - Holt's not a gun... torture.
So they have poor Bobye step back from birthing and caring for babies to take a swipe a Brummett - who obviously has "issues" and needs to find Jesus - that's what makes John such a mean man whose always picking on her man. And we need to vote for Williams because - hell, I don't know - he's a Republican?
I'll go out on a limb - Henry hands the boys their hats - another loss for a family that might have a hard time getting elected state dog catcher.

Well said Cato.. Reading that womans reasoning makes me thinks of what it must have been like in Nazi Germany or at times Springdale AR for folks trying to get by or get healthcare while pregnant... only to have some "citizen" scream, point a finger" yell jew or illegal alien... and watch them be carte away never to be seen again..
She is just a sick human being for her prejudice and hate. Give a human being in need... health care first... always.
Shame on you BOYBE, shame

Anyone know if the Holts have even been on the dole? I remember a campaign worker telling me they lived on beans and potatoes, had lots of yard sales, and got help from the church.
Have they really always paid all their own medical bills, including maternity care? I have my doubts.
How can anyone be as heartless as Ms. Holt seems to be, and still claim to be Christian?

Glad they got all the kinks worked out of evolution, Jim being such an educated Army Sgt and all.
In one of his more-than-luny debates with Ms Blanche he actually said he knew more about the subject of discussion than his college proff.
>>" It does not take a majority to prevail.but rather an IRATE ~ TIRELESS ~ MINORITY keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the people's minds."<<
Hmm. Sounds strangely familiar to the tactics used 70 some odd years ago by a little extremist band in Germany.

Hey Bobye,
Yo boy Jim sure liked using the heavy hand of gubbermint (socialistic) to run Sam's Wholesale out of Springdale which is now costing the city over $1 million per year in lost sales tax revenues.

Eureka Springs,
Despite what Jim Holt would like for you to believe, Springdale is not Nazi Germany. The reason you see more open racial bigotry there is that you have more racial diversity there. Neither Eureka Springs nor Fayetteville, both essentially white communities with a dusting of diversity, have any right to crow about a working-class city dealing with issues they've been rich enough to avoid.
If I were to move back to northwest Arkansas, I'd probably move to Springdale. It's a hell of a lot realer than Fayetteville these days.

More racial diversity = More open racial bigotry?
If that is true -- and I'm not sure it is, having grown up in an all-white county that was very open about its racism -- then the sooner we all meld into one race, ala' Obama and Tiger Woods, the better.

"I don't know about you but I like the thought of having people in leadership, especially the judicial branch."
I'm having a little trouble with this sentence from Bo-bye's keyboard. Is she implying that in some areas of the country there are pigs and chickens working in our government? I've always assumed that only humans worked in our government, be it city, county, state, or national government. Are some members of her sect worried that liberals are going to elect jungle creatures to public office? On second thought, I have known quite a few horse's asses who worked in government....is that what Bo-bye is talking about?
Or is she saying she wants agenda driven people elected to office or hired to work in our government? My wife recently fired a person whose true agenda was to sell some fruity health elixir to the company's clients, instead of wifey's products and services. Several of the wifey's clients thought this was unprofessional and wrong and called to complain. Imagine if this person had been taking up company time pushing their religious or political views? We go to work to do our job. People are elected to do certain jobs. Mixing in religious convictions or partisan political feelings screws up the whole equation, especially in our justice system.
I want judges who judge according to the law, not according to what's best for the Democratic or Republican Parties and surely not based on the teachings of Jesus, Buddha, or Allah. When Jim Holt is finally elected as dog catcher, I expect him to pick up atheist dogs and Christian dogs equally. I don't want to see him only picking up those animals who have not accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior. I plan to follow his little truck around everyday for the first 6 months he's on the job as dog catcher, and I mean it! Now...does anyone know if Courtney Henry has any terrier blood in er? She has a fine coat and great hind limbs! Woof! I would hope if we ever met that I would Appeal to her! Woof!

The reason you see more open racial bigotry there is that you have more racial diversity there.
by John A
The reason we see it in Springdale is because the people and their elected Womacks/Boybe's have no problem with denying basic human dignities .. They have no concept of the notion if it is happening to the poor "working visitors" and their families, or citizens who look like them, it can and will happen to anyone.
Taking her letter at face value... she would rather see a pregnant woman in need of basic prenatal care be denied care, caged, and gawd knows what else.. just to satisfy her bigotry and make her husbands politics appear to be moral, highbrow, strong? When in fact it's nothing short of cruel and dangerous.
It's cruel ignorant hate at best.. Send that woman a white hood with swastika patch on it!
It's time we understand these right to lifers are all about suffering and death during life.... even for mothers carrying a chld.
It's time to look out for each other - all of each other- rather than beat up on innocents, capitulate to our own knuckle-dragging neighbors.
And John, I have a right to speak up..given the opportunity, I feel quite sure the majority of my ES community would say much the same thing.... despite their majority of white skin.... there is no way the majority of E. Springers would vote to turn anyone away from needed health care... Nor would the majority of Americans.

Hopefully, Sunday just before the May 20 election when it's way too late

Eureka Springs (the town, not the commenter) is a tourist town and thus not like real towns. I love it there and I wouldn't live there on a bet.
The reason you don't see much racial conflict (or diversity) in Fayetteville is because the Powers That Be have made sure they don't see those pesky poor people of varied colors. (They're doing a pretty good job of getting rid of the poor white folks, to boot.) I know there's plenty of bigotry in Springdale, but it's less-bigoted Fayetteville where the heart of racism in northwest Arkansas beats.
There's a price to diversity. Fayetteville doesn't find it worth paying. I do. One more reason I left.

John, I don't think we disagree at all..Please do not take my utter contempt for the most extreme bile expressed in Boybe's letter to be any attempt to excuse a lot of folks who hide their prejudices in the middle. I think "class warfare" and it's divisiveness is at the root of the vast majority of bigots success.. and very effectively played by both major parties, locally and nationally.

bopbamboom,
Click my blue name for the Wikipedia article on Ernst Haeckel (whose name I actually remembered how to spell correctly). He's an important figure in early evolutionary biology.
You'll note that Bobye Holt assumes in her screed that Haeckel's mistakes (and he made a few) were fraud rather than errors. That's a standard tactic among creationist nutcases, and it tells us more about their character than about Haeckel's.

Sorry, you are going to have to elaborate on your point before I just accept the seriousness of it... Holts, Womacks.. they are all one and the same, who feed off each other with words expressed in letters such as the one posted above,imo.. Be they residents of Fayetteville or Springdale, wherever.. it's an easy connection to make, without providing excuses or cover for countless other methods.
I simply fail to understand why you care to insert a distinction on my original point. perhaps that is where we should sort out the difference..

Eureka Springs,
I've had the misfortune of meeting Jim Holt, back when he was part of the crowd around Joe Robson and Richard S. Drake, and I would have no problem with you describing him thus in your original posting...
"Reading that womans reasoning makes me thinks of what it must have been like in Nazi Germany or at times Springdale AR for folks trying to get by or get healthcare while pregnant... only to have some "citizen" scream, point a finger" yell jew or illegal alien... and watch them be carte away never to be seen again.."
...but that's a bit rich to lay on the whole town of Springdale.
It's not Nazi Germany and people aren't being disappeared. It's bad, what's happening to immigrants there and elsewhere, but the institutions in which they're being held aren't concentration camps. They are cruel and unusual punishment, they do shock the conscience, but they aren't Auschwitz, where death was dealt out wholesale. In the federal facilities where immigrants are mistreated, the deaths are happening retail and seem to be culpable neglect rather than planned murder.
It's a fine distinction, and of no comfort to those who have suffered from them, but resisting evil is best done with a clear vision of the situation.

I didn't think that she knew the first goddamned thing about science and that she is spewing some bullshit she got off the Internet. It's just like I don't believe that those guys who write letters to the Editor about one of those Laws of Thermodynamics and entropic systems are the closet Lord Kelvins.
I had just never heard of the guy she was lying about.

Fair enough.. though the leadership of Springdale seems to fit the generalization far to well... be it the prevailing Christians, Business, or elected politicians of that commuity "in general"... and there is very little sign of it doing anything but continuing in the direction of fascism.. so I will stand by initial generalization.. as a generalization.
Immigrants, once arrested, are not allowed to notify an atty or even a family member as to their whereabouts.. as for whether killing or torturing via gas or neglect of health care or basic liberty, is another inhumane distinction I am not willing to make.
Human dignity should not be so easily negotiated.. especially when responding to nut cases like Holt Momma GOPers.
It's time for sane people to quit playing nice.. the wing-nuts never will... and they are counting on our unwillingness to do so.
