The sweet spell of success

Samia Nawaz, a student at Little Rock's Anthony School, has reached the finals of the National Spelling Bee. Check out Rock Candy for video and more. Finals are on TV tonight.

The bee will be on ABC at 7 p.m.

Her last winning word: pyrrhotism. Rock Candy is particularly well-qualified to define.

UPDATE: She made it to the final 10, but was eliminated.

I am not sure how well spent the time is used for learning words, but I sure am proud she was able to get that far.

Is there any limit to where the words must be found?

Isn't she beautidul????
For all dad's of little girls.

clicky

Go out and rent "Spellbound" for a fascinating look inside the competition. Between this and the Geography Bee, it packs in far more tension and excitement than you see on our national professional sports stage. You get to participate, even on the sideline, which is not something you can do with pro football or basketball or baseball.

Our Little Rock girl did very, very well tonight. She tied for 6th out of approx 290 entrants at nationals, each the winner of his/her own state or regional competition.

Actually, our Little Rock girl did better than a tie for 6th! "Samia Nawaz, 4th place tie"
per http://public.spellingbee.com/public/results/finishers. Either way, that's incredible!!! Click my name to see her words she had to spell. That even makes her placement MORE impressive! Way to go Samia!!!
