Airport director named

After an executive session and final round of interviews lasting a good part of the day, the Little Rock Airport Commission has selected Ronald Mathieu as the airport's new executive director. He was chosen over two other finalists. His pay will be set in coming contract negotiations.

Mathieu has served as deputy executive director at the airport since January 2006, and took up the reins as interim executive director in December 2007 with the resignation of former director Deborah Schwartz.

On Mathieu's plate in coming years: a $100 million dollar terminal expansion, not to mention keeping an increasingly jittery airline industry interested in flying routes to and from lil' 'ol Little Rock.

Common sense must have climbed aboard one of those planes out at LR National and flown off to parts unknown. I can't imagine pouring $100 million into expansion of the airport. The terminal we have has been extensively remodeled in recent years and serves well as it goes about the business of handling about 2 million passengers every year. I don't see traffic here increasing enough in the next decade or so to be overly concerned about expansion. In fact, I don't see air traffic anywhere increasing greatly in the near future. But wha' th' hell do I know?

"But wha' th' hell do I know?"

exactly...

Hey, you read my post all the way to the end, Mr. Doe! That's the greatest compliment a poster can be paid. Thanks!

and I may have been the only one to read it considering the topic. ;-)

Good article about the expansion in last weeks Times.
