Beebe: MLK appointments suspended

Can't quarrel with this announcement by Gov. Mike Beebe:

"It is becoming increasingly clear that Arkansas legislators plan to review the structure and composition of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission during the 2009 session, an effort that I support.  Until that review occurs, I will not make any new appointments to the Commission.  This group has a great purpose and can be a conduit for Dr. King's noble tenets, but it appears increasingly difficult for the Commission to do so in its current form." – Governor Mike Beebe

A 26-member board that had difficulty achieving a quorum was part, but by no means all, of the problems with a commission plagued by petty politics, questionable spending and, most of all, not enough meaningful works to show for its existence over the years. It's under new direction now.

Comments

After reading the fluff piece the Times did on Beebe the un-educated will think he is capable of spinning wheat into gold. Brings to mind the Les McCann classic : "Compared to What."
