Bush: More corrupting of Justice UPDATE
The previously nonpartisan Justice Department honors program became a partisan preserve under Bush administration operation.
This, of course, has happened in every single facet of the executive branch and has been ruthlessly enforced from the Cheney White House. It will take years to correct; decades if McCain is allowed to continue the Cheney-Bush era.
UPDATE: My first post on this I don't think conveyed sufficiently how slimy this deal is. More from the New York Times.
WASHINGTON -- Justice Department officials over the last six years illegally used “political or ideological” factors to hire new lawyers into an elite recruitment program, tapping law school graduates with conservative credentials over those with liberal-sounding resumes, a new report found Tuesday.
The blistering report, prepared by the Justice Department’s inspector general, is the first in what will be a series of investigations growing out of last year’s scandal over the firings of nine United States attorneys. It appeared to confirm for the first time in an official examination many of the allegations from critics who charged that the Justice Department had become overly politicized during the Bush administration.
“Many qualified candidates” were rejected for the department’s honors program because of what was perceived as a liberal bias, the report found. Those practices, the report concluded, “constituted misconduct and also violated the department’s policies and civil service law that prohibit discrimination in hiring based on political or ideological affiliations.”

It's like what they found when they opened my Uncle up last month....cancer everywhere! Click my name to see how our Ambassador to Albania has been caught hiding Chinese bullets being sold to American defense contractors after hiding the country of origin. The Ambassador's wife is also on the US government tit. The question should be.....is there anyone connected to the Cheney-Bush administration who IS HONEST? Like being found to have ties to Hitler in the fall of 1945, it seems if you work or worked for the Cheney-Bush administration you might as well report directly to prison.
President Obama in his inaugural address should say he is going to reverse everything to January 19th, 2001 the minute he takes office. Every law, every rule change, every appointment and hire......everything goes back to 8 years and 1 day before January 20th, 2009. That's the only hope we have in rooting out the Cheney-Bush cancer that runs from the local dogcatcher's office in yer town all the way up to the Supreme Court.
Without doing some kind of drastic measure like that, it would take 25 years to investigate, indict, and convict or change each Cheney-Bush cancer cell that's been snuck into our government. Cheney-Bush has metastasized throughout the US governmental system and rules of law. President Obama must figure out a national chemotherapy program to kill the deadly Cheney-Bush cells embedded in the US and around the world.....yes, all the way to Albania!
We need an American Simon Wiesenthal to spend the next 50 years tracking down Cheney-Bush war criminals and bringing them to justice. Without these measures, America will remain infected, dangerous, and contagious for the rest of our lives and no one will ever be safe!

Hugh Mann, I quit counting at Bush Scandal # 155. Have you kept count. How many does this make.
And in the future can't you just hear Arky Red saying "At least they didn't lie about a blow job."

Shocking!
However, not illegal nor dishonest. Now, if someone testified to Congress that politics were not part of the selection process, you would have something illegal to work with. My hope would be that Congress would treat that person with the deference they showed for a President who lied under oath.
Only way to prevent this is moving forward is obviously a quota-based system, meaning that qualified white men would be rejected on an actual bias rather than a perceived one.

Max, I tuned into your blog with the hopes that it would be a good source for Arkansas news; however, the more I read it, the more I'm convinced it's half Arkansas news and half left-wing political rant. Would you say that's accurate? And if so, why mix the two?
ARK. BLOG: I'd say it's all left-wing poitical rant, foreign and domestic. But there's quite a bit of Arkansas news here, a healthy dose of it exclusive to us. And, hey, in Arkansas, left-wing rant is hard to come by. But please. Defend this Justice Department outrage.

No need to defend, as IT IS NOT ILLEGAL.
Next, you're going to tell me the career Harvard Law grad in the environmental department isn't going to hire another Harvard Law grad, who probably studied under the same professors?
That is somehow better?

Red I love to mention the Clintons just to watch you drag out the "lied to a court bit". Yes, your side did an impeachment and trial based upon a lie about a BLOW JOB. The R party became the blow job party.
It's still difficult to recall we've been in the 20th and 21st Century where a party can impeach a president for lying about a blow job. Blow Job Prosecutions, that's Republican!

Arkansas Red, the Inspector General disagrees with you about whether it was illegal.
From his report:
"As explained below, we concluded that Elston violated federal law and Department policy by deselecting candidates based on their liberal affiliations."

Just because the President's representative sawed the 2 month old infant in half doesn't mean it is dishonest or illegal. Sometimes for the good of this nation young girls must be raped. The old lady's head was crushed under section 15, article 7 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002, making elderly head crushing legal for the protection of this country

Max, thanks for clearing that up. It's totally your right to put whatever slant you want on the news; however, don't count on me tuning in. And that's not b/c it's slanted to the left - it's b/c it's *slanted*. And I'm sure you're pessimistic about me saying that, but it's true. I'm turned off by the same kind of slant when it's right-wing. I just simply want the news.
And about the Justice Dept thing: do you honestly think Barrack Obama isn't going to do the same thing? I believe the saying is "to the victor belong the spoils."

ARK. BLOG: No previous president -- Republican or Democrat -- ran the Justice Dept. honors program as a partisan spoils program. This one did. I don't think Obama will and if you'd been around a while you'd know I'm not the world's leading Obama man. Slanted is, of course, in the eyes of the beholder. Adios, My Friend.

Mr. Van Hook,
While Rovian conditioned Bush apologist's assume all American Presidents indulge in rampant politicization and patronage as a matter of course . . . "to the vistor go the spoils," The universality of total politicization or patronage is a fallacy. I realize that this is a shock since all the cons and neocons pundits have promulgated the fable for years, but they have also continually told you, incorrectly, what their opposition thinks and believes. You might look ar www.princeton.edu/~delewis/Papers/Midwest2007.pdf, a study of presidential politiciazation and patronage.
George W. Bush is definitely following the lead of Nixon and Reagan, but far outstripping their extent. While FDR and James J. Farley were guilty of politicization during the New Deal years, many Presidents have been relatively free of the process preferring to appoint based on ability and competence rather than political purity. Examples being Eisenhower, Ford, George H. W. Bush and many others. In fact, I believe Chester A. Arthur had the Civil Service Commission begum because his predessor was assassinated by a reputed disgruntled speech writer, Charles Guiteau, who didn't get the appointment he wanted.
But back to your original question . . . will Obama make the policization of all agencies policy as the Bush administration has? I very much doubt it, although your favorite cons and neocons pundit will be bleating that he is, as he and his administration remove the hangover of Bush' s less than competent appointees and hirings from executive branch and federal agencies.
