Charlie Jones, sportscaster, dies at 77

A family friend informs me that Charlie Jones, 77, the Fort Smith native and Emmy-winning sportscaster for ABC and NBC, died unexpectedly yesterday at his La Jolla, Calif., home of an apparent heart attack. He held a law degree from the University of Arkansas and was married to the former Ann Williams of Fort Smith. They were four days shy of their 54th anniversary. Here's the San Diego obituary.

Comments

The guys on NBC covering the US Open just spoke warmly of Mr. Jones...

I never met him, his mother was a teacher at Northside High for years, gone before I got there.
But in the nearly 50 years that I've lived in Fort Baptist, I've never heard anyon say a bad word about Charlie. He must have been an awful nice guy, if no one....no one in your home town has anything bad to say. RIP Charlie....you made your hometown proud.
