Choose your poison: cigs or cell phones
Says here that heavy cell phone use is more dangerous than smoking. Never mind the traffic hazards. They're talking here about brain cancer.
The industry, needless to say, disputes this. Maybe there's a movie in all this some day.

Meanwhile, we could lose several thousands or millions if McBush's campaign has its way:
FRESNO, California (AP) - A top adviser to John McCain said another terrorist attack on U.S. soil would be a "big advantage" for the Republican presidential candidate, drawing a sharp rebuke Monday from both the presumed GOP nominee and Democrat Barack Obama.
Charlie Black, already in the spotlight for his past lobbying work, is quoted in the upcoming July 7 edition of Fortune magazine as saying such an attack "certainly would be a big advantage to him." Black said Monday he regretted the comment..........bluename

I quit downloading porn in favor of smoking old cell phones I pick up for peanuts at pawn shops around Fort Baptist. Think I'll live to November 5th? Do texting cause cancer of the fingers? How many old cell phones will fit in Mark W. Pryor's colon? Will cell phones be banned at local parks soon? What are the rules for cell phones on all those ruled-up little bridges all over LR?

Well that settles it then. No damn cell phones in public parks or bars, restaurants, airports, not even on public sidewalks in many cities.
I just want to know if the bluetooth function on a cell phone internet connection is dangerous too?

Bluetooth is more dangerous than just a cell phone. After reading all this stuff for the past week and being a new or once again cell phone user today I went out for one of those old-fashioned ear pieces and mic thingies. cheap and effective.

Brain Cancer. you want something that can cause brain cancer. Go see The Love Guru. I submit that nothing may be more dangerous than two hours locked in a room with that movie searing through your grey matter. Just have to spread the word about that as a public service. My cause for the day.

Yea durgano, just as Dark Side Cheney and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has limited tort lawsuits across the nation. I think verizon and at&t will get any liability severely limited. There's always other microwave transmissions to blame it on.
""It took guts, bravery and vision to get behind what must have seemed like an insurmountable task - taking on the powerful trial bar," said Mr. Donohue, the chief executive of the United States Chamber of Commerce. "We have succeeded beyond our expectations."

Unfortunately, eLwood, the article on tort restrictions scares me even more than my bluetooth device. Big business has finally figured out that if they can buy judges, they can control the outcomes of cases. They intend to own all three branches of government at every level, not that they don't already. They simply want the ability to screw the little guy with "predictability." They want to be able to predictably consider the lives of their customers on their balance sheets as a simple function of risk. Why couldn't the US Chamber of Commerce spend that 70+ million dollars on making the products and services their members provide safer for people? I know, I'm such an idealist... I just don't think that a corporation should be able to kill and maim people with impunity. Corporations have all the rights of an individual with very few of the responsibilities. If you or I did many of the things that corporations regularly do, we'd do extended jail time. If a corporation does it, it's simply a regretable part of doing business. Corporations are unfortunately a shield for immoral, unethical, and unthinkable behavior and we need desperately to find elected officials who are willing to stand up to them and their money.

My solution? I've been doing it for years. Put my cell on speakerphone and place it on my desk or on the car's dashboard or cupholder, AWAY from my head. (NEVER in my lap because of lap cancer.)
Because it's really dangerous driving at 65 on the 630 to hold my cellphone AND light a Marlboro AND roll down the driver's window to flick ashes AND talk on the phone AND sip a refreshing beverage AND worry about the Duggar family and global warming AND, you know, drive and stuff.

One would have to think that the general population, that would be you and me, are cattle to be used at will by the 1% who own America. A glance at history shows how often they've used us as guinea pigs, worked us until we're used up and then so easily cast us away. Ma's care, the last year of her life was one of organized neglect to get her worthless old carcass off the planet.
As long as us sheep buy buy buy the product, they don't care if it kills us. The tricks of our medical system shows how valueless our lives are. So what if we die, they'll be a Duggar to replace us and if not a Duggar there are billions of Chinese. The joke will be on the 1% the day when they find they themselves are owned by the Chinese and are easily disposable when their purpose is over. Dog eat dog takes on a very ominous reality if you continue this thread of thought.
Wouldn't it be nice of dying Ted Kennedy and dying Arlen Specter to spend their remaining days telling us exactly who owns our government, whose calling the shots and why these people keep working us over just to make 5 more billion? Come on guys....spill your cancerous guts while you can and give us the facts so we can save America after you're gone.

Perplexed, note no. 10 below:
In a recent interview, author, Chris Hedges listed some items from Obama's voting record. -Carl
1. He's been lauded by the nuclear power industry which is resuming an attempt to build nuclear power plants all over the country (calling it "Green Energy")
2. He's voted to continue to fund the Iraq war.
3. He opposed Murtha's call for immediate withdrawal.
4. He didn't join the 13 Senators who voted against confirming Condoleezza Rice.
5. He voted in 2005 to re-authorize the Patriot Act.
6. He did not support an amendment that was part of a bankruptcy bill that would have capped credit card rates at 30%.
7. He opposed a bill that would have reformed a mining law of 1872 that essentially allows mining companies to lease federal land for pennies an acre (which is a complete rip-off of the American taxpayer).
8. He did not support the bill Kucinich and Conyers introduced for "Single-Payer health care."
9. He supports the death penalty.
10. He worked to support a class-action reform bill which allows financial firms to escape accountability (a huge lobbying effort by the financial industry who are Obama's second largest donors) by effectively shutting down state courts as venues to hear class-action suits (this has long been a goal of corporations and the Bush administration). This bill effectively denies redress in state courts where most cases have a chance of defying powerful corporate challenges and moves them into corporate-friendly Federal courts which are now dominated by right-wing Republican judges (even Hilary Clinton voted against this bill which allows corporations to engage in flagrant discrimination, consumer fraud, and wage violations)

They spent an hour going back and forth regarding this on Larry King Live recently. I never heard anyone say if the rate of brain cancer has increased lately. It looks to me like that would be a good indication if cell phone use causes brain cancer.
Bluetooth headsets are believed to be safe and were recommended by both sides on Larry King Live.

Thanks, eLwood. They're all bought and paid for. It's not just in Louisiana that an honest politician is one who "when bought, stays bought." It's true across the country anymore. The decision now is whether Obama will be less "bought" than McCain. Both parties are incredibly addicted to corporate money - terminally so, I'm afraid.

I was out riding my motorycle tonight around the Rock. I was sort of amused by all the cell phones I saw being used in cars. Cell phones are useful, but It is my opinion that for many people cell phones are just adult versions of a binky.
I know some people who are CONSTANTLY on their cell phone. It is almost as if they are afraid to put the phone down and interact with a real live adult who is directly in front of them.
The worst is the people who yap on them in the checkout line, and yap on the phone as the cashier is ringing them up, and yapping as they fumble through their 30 gallon crazy lady purse for money, and still yapping as they hand over the money to the cashier, and yet still yapping as they are handed back money from the cashier, and STILL yapping as they fumble with the money, the phone, the bags of groceries. I made 20 easy dollars last week at a West Little Rock Wal-Mart because a person in line was so preoccupied talking on the phone that they failed to see the 20 dollar bill they dropped. I considered it payment for having to listen the her drone on about her damn kids in ball practice and that her husband has the Lexus and was not going to be able to pick them up. In the 10 hellish minutes I was behind her, I basically learned where she lives, her kids names, what her husband drives and apporoximately where they live.
I have notices that black people seem to absolutely love those bluetooth headsets. Bling factor? Seriously, just go to a Wal-Mart or local shopping center and look at who is predominately wearing those bluetooth headsets.
I use a pre-paid Tracfone. Get a 60 minute card every couple of months. If our conversation is going to be more involved that who, what, when, where....I'll just drive over and see 'ya face-to-face.

A key to evaluating health claims involves the term 'peer review'. A short google of the Doctor's name and you see Fox News and Larry King right up there at the top. Noticeably absent, from the front of the list at least, was anything like the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet, the American Journal of Public Health, the CDC's MMW, or publications like that.
A more pressing concern is indeed the power corporations have wielded in denying consumers the right to product safety. Any wonder that tobacco companies pour money into politicians' efforts at tort reform? Remember. Blame the victim.
One of the scariest efforts is this Phillip Morris FDA bill that poor old cancer riddled Teddy is sponsoring. Soon you too can have an FDA approved cigarette! A short history is that the Supremes ruled in the 90s that the FDA did not have the authority to regulate cigarettes because cigarettes, being inherently unsafe, would have to be banned and congress had not given the FDA that authority. The last decade has been spent fashioning a bill giving the FDA limited authority despite the fact that the best parts of the bill could be handled by the FTC without sacrificing the integrity of the FDA. Or maybe that's the point all along.
I do take heart that the coalition that has been blindly supporting the bill has noticed that there's something screwy about prohibiting all flavoring except menthol neglects the prevalence of menthols among black smokers. Lie down w dogs and you wake up smoking Marlboros.

Many people are already exhibiting symptoms of cell-phone induced brain cancer.
They talk while they are pulling into traffic, with their vision blocked on one side or the other. (Death wish)
They talk and smoke cigarettes at the same time. (Double death wish)
They talk and eat fast food at the same time. (Double death wish, deux)
They talk and stand behind me in the checkout line at Kroger. (I wish their death)
Outlaw this idocy, I say! At least behind the wheel...

Wow. Y'all are eager to believe anything. If a corporation is making money, they must be killing somebody. Meanwhile, y'all are all for encouraging homelessness and poverty...since you continue push for subsidies. I wonder why y'all don't think subsidizing poverty doesn't encourage it, even though it's obviously encouraging corn production. There's another liberal boondoggle gone awry for you.

Beware of scientists that publicize their "research" before it is peer reviewed. Quoting from the article:
"Professor Khurana - a top neurosurgeon who has received 14 awards over the past 16 years, has published more than three dozen scientific papers - reviewed more than 100 studies on the effects of mobile phones. He has put the results on a brain surgery website, and a paper based on the research is currently being peer-reviewed for publication in a scientific journal."
Publishing your findings "on a ... website" before the peer review is complete is tactic usually employed by unscrupulous individuals that foresee their study being routed by reviewers. And in and of itself, is unethical.

Do a reality check. The Health Department publishes cancer incidence on their web site. Go to www.healthyarkansas.com. Click on Data and Research. Under blue bar for query systems, click the main menu for cancer. Look at brain cancer from 1997 to 2005. Look at lung cancer from 1997 to 2005. Go back and read the article. Pour yourself a drink, go out to the patio, and call your mistress on your cell phone. Life is good.
