Heaven help the homeless ...

... because it's becoming clearer and clearer that North Little Rock Mayor Pat Hays intends to do all he can to keep them out of Dogtown. Argenta News reports and comments. OK: Hays hasn't stationed cops at the bridge with guns, a la post-Katrina New Orleans. Yet.

Mayor Hays should move to one of those big cities where stepping over the poor/downtrodden is OK. (I'm not sure where that's out...it's one of those northern stereotypes the TV tells me is true.) One of the best things about living in a small southern state is that we don't ignore our neighbors who are in need of help...and we remember that stuff about a culture's greatness being tied to its compassion for the poorest of its citizens. I hope the citizens of NLR send him packing...or, at least, send his heartless, greedy ideas packing. My god I'm tired of mayors giving all our resources to developers while stripping our infrastructures/safety nets to the bone.

...and along those lines...I hope Conway uses some of its new-found wealth (the wealth we've been promised in exchange for constantly giving our tax monies/environment to any developer who asked) to enlarge our homeless shelter: Bethlehem House. It stays full and in need.

Haditha? Anyone?

While Little Rock is so supportive and accomodating you wonder why they would even want to go to Dogtown.
