Meanwhile what shall we call the 100 MILLION plus children who starved to death during the past
15 years, mostly due to overpopulation. I wonder if anyone has a ratio for high consumption Americans, something that can reveal how many children will starve as a result of one more being born in America?

I used to wonder how they handled all those kids and then I watched their TV show and found out. Simply, the older kids take care of the younger ones. The mom can keep cranking them out. Why not? She's not doing the work. The teenagers are.

Damn, I probably have not spent 10 minutes of my life thinking about how many kids other people should have, but it seems pretty excessive to have 18 in a twenty year period of time. A few years ago Katherine Dunn wrote a fine novel about a carnival couple that decide to raise their own troupe of freaks. Geek Love. Check it out. Its surprisingly sensitive and preceeds the Duggars reality TV roadshow. Of course the Duggars don't have any kids named Aqua Boy. That we know.

Fact: Yes, Moxiemoron (LOVING the "oxymoron" pun, BTW), overpopuation lies at the heart of many if not all of earth's problems. The problem is ongoing.

Earth's resources simply cannot sustain an infinitely expanding human population.

To say so is stupid and insulting.

Wars, epidemics, "natural disasters" (created in many cases by human behavior) will help take care of the "problem" by wiping out millions of lives periodically.

Or there's another, more humane choice we can make: educating ourselves about the population problem, our earth's sustainable resources, international politics, religion, birth control.

You think ANY home-schooled kid's getting THAT education in their kitchen? (Sure, some home-schooled enter Yale. Exceptions prove the rule.)

Yes, Thunderangel, we do have the right. And we all do it, all day, every day. We not only judge figures like Hitler and Stalin and the Pope and the President, we judge each other constantly. "He's nice, she's mean, they're religionists, they're atheists, they're gay, they're white, they're black . . . ." It's endless judging and almost unconscious, it's so pervasive.

What's important is whether our judgments are based on facts . . . or distortions, misinformation and lies.

No one's born bigoted or hating anybody. They have to be taught. Religion is the single largest dispenser of distortions, misinformation and lies . . . and fear, hatred and death . . . the world has ever known, if you know religion's facts and history.

Generally, I've experienced (and judged) that people who make inaccurate, unfactual, fearful, bigoted, uninformed, unthinking and hateful statements are religious, or profess to be. Those who stay objectively informed and make well-reasoned statements and political choices are not generally religious, though they may believe in God or a universal power.

Religionists' numbers are greater in the South than elsewhere, which is responsible for the South's continuing reputation for ignorance and bigotry worldwide (whether deserved or not. And if you've read newspapers in the last, oh, 200 years, it is).

We've been through the Duggars before on this blog. That they are "freaks" is their sole source of public fascination (and, apparently, quite a bit of income and perks). They are not the norm, in other words.

If their 18 home-schooled children follow their parents' leads and each have another 18 children, in four generations the Duggar family will add nearly 2 million people to earth's population. Simple math.

I don't pretend to know the psychology behind the Duggar's reproductive choices. But that doesn't stop me from asking obvious questions and seeking factual information. Thus forming opinions and "judging," in other words.

I wonder, for instance, what leads a couple to decide they'd rather potentially ADD 2 million people to earth's population in a few generations, rather than adopting any of the millions of already born children around the world who would thrive in a loving family, instead of dying.

It's the Duggar's choice, of course. And it doesn't make me "hate" them or their offspring at all. I just observe choices and actions. That's not hard.

"Honey, instead of adopting, oh, 16 orphans who could really benefit from being raised by our loving family and our two natural children, let's forget all about those desperately needy kids and keep you pregnant for 18 years in a row and populate our own Duggaropolis in four generations. Let's make THAT choice! Whaddaya say, honey?"

Say what you will about Angelina and Brad, for instance. I personally respect that Hollywood couple's choices and behaviors regarding children, adoption and earth's population, over the Duggars'.

Yeah, that's a judgment based on my acquired information about people's choices and behavior.

It doesn't matter much, what people say. Just observe their actions -- their choices and behaviors. And ask, "Why would this person choose to behave THIS way and not THAT?" The question leads you to investigate the answers. Once you've found the facts, you've got informed understanding.

All I can do is look at one couple who chooses to adopt more already existing children than they produce, worldwide and of different races . . . and another couple who chooses instead of adoption to bring a "freakish" number of children into the world who will exponentially increase global population, thus adding to one of our major problems rather than perhaps helping solve it through education about birth control and adoption.

Of course, my DEEPEST question is which ones of the Duggar kids are gay or lesbian (statistically) and when will THAT come out and will they kick them out of the family or sort of embrace them and their adopted or artificially inseminated kid, whilst keeping them out of photo-ops and not letting them legally marry, like Dick and Lynne Cheney?

Somehow, my intuition tells me the Duggars AREN'T pro-same-sex-marriage.

Actually, Moxie, you or anybody may re-read my post and see that I was simply describing actual choices and behaviors by the Duggar family (documented facts, in other words) on which to base my judgments.

My "intuition" about the Duggar's not being pro-same-sex-marriage was intended as a joke, poor as it may have been. Nonetheless, what's called "intuition" has been shown to be, in fact, an almost unconscious reading of myriad obvious behavioral clues (objective facts), perhaps best documented in Gavin De Becker's "The Gift of Fear." (A book I recommend to everybody, but especially women.)

You obviously have a lot to say here, Moxie, and you say it well. You'll be valuable here for as long as you care to be. (A few aren't particularly valuable, as you can tell.)

And though I enjoy being a bit outspoken and outrageous here, to keep it readable and maybe provoke a giggle, I think if you revisit my original post you will find your points don't jibe with what I actually said.

I'm all about facts and truths, as I can discover them to the best of my ability and (sometimes) hard work.

Other than that, I've reread your post and stand by mine. I simply don't see the facts you're talking about. I do see a lot of speculation, which I value somewhere below uninformed opinion.

I don't think LA is chasv in drag...chasv wouldn't use "anathema" or "Asians!" If you buy that offspring are likely more out-of-touch than the parents, LA is MAYBE his mom/dad...AND her/his CAPS are more annoying than chasv's prattling on about queers.

the Duggars disgust me. the world is full of problems, and yes one of them is TOO MANY PEOPLE>>>>......... and here we have a woman who makes it her life's work to lay up and get knocked up year after year ...... ENOUGH is ENOUGH.... these people should be shipped to China where someone with some sense would put a stop to this selfish indulgence of the most obscene kind.
