Letter to the blog editor: Water

Concerning Lake Maumelle and its watershed, the biggest part of the city's water supply, from a water protection activist.

Connect the dots and they lead to a conflict of interest. Deltic Timber owns 35.5% of the land that supports Lake Maumelle in Pulaski County.  Jane Dickey is a member of the Rose Law Firm, which is a law firm for Deltic Timber. Jane will be considered for reappointment as a member of the Central Arkansas Water Board of Commissioners at Tuesday’s Little Rock Board of Directors meeting.  The term is 7 years. I say it is time for a change.

When can we start taxing Deltec Timber on the fair market value of their land. If it's really worth so much when we have to buy it from them, why can't they pay a fair value for property taxes?

I am surprised there are so few comments concerning this conflict of interest. I can only wonder if this is because people do not understand or because such actions are so common now that no one cares.
