Snyder's wife expecting -- triplets
A blog reader posted this on the Ark. Blog in an open thread yesterday and we put a call this morning to confirm, but a news release from U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder beat us to the punch:
Please be advised that my wife Rev. Betsy Singleton is 10 ½ weeks pregnant with triplets. Obviously the pregnancy is still very early, but so far everything and everyone looks fine. We appreciate all the good thoughts and prayers now and in the weeks and months to come. And yes, we did say Triplets.”
Snyder, 60, and Rev. Singleton, 47, have a son, Penn, 2.

Comments
Congrats to the congressman and Mrs. Snyder! That's undoubtedly happy news for them; but three more babies on the way at age 60 would be a nightmare for me. Grandkids are all (and sometimes more) than I can handle!

Maybe Rep Snyder can get out the convalescent home to attend their high school graduation.

Are we going to see a rash of Snyder bashing here, after all the Duggars are bashed for having a lot of kids.
Should a 60 year old man and a 47 year old woman be chastised for having kids so late in life? Does a guy who is elgible for Social Security in two years really need to be fathering triplets?
Is this to be classified as an act of vanity and/or selfishness by the blog?
Does it make a difference what the respective parents politics are?
We will see.

They're good folks and congratulations are in order. No reason to be nasty over something entirely positive.
Jim, I'm especially saddened by your response here. You're usually the "just the facts" guy who provides positive insight into issues. Leave the sarcasm and negativity to us common bloggers, you're better than that.

I'm with Lawdog.....Mrs. S should abort those babies as soon as possible! No Duggars they!
Now...back in reality....congratulations to the Snyders! I personally would be drinking bleach if I got this news at my age. ohmagod!

Sorry to upset you, calm,
Considering the meanness of this election year, I mistakenly thought I was providing gentle humor. It seems that cookie recipes are provoking verbal nuclear retaliation or that simply saying "hello" is code for savage religious innuendo. I wish it were otherwise, but when I shovel sarcasm it is usually with a bulldozer, not a trowel.

Congrats, Vic, Betsy, and Penn.
Comparing this situation to the Duggars' is ludicrous.
Snyder/Singleton: Fertility issues and 2 pregnancies; not freakish
Duggar: Hyperfertility and 18 pregnancies; freakish, but that's just my opinion
P.S. I, too, am still ticked about the vote on HR 6304

I can discern a difference between a family having two pregnancies albeit late in life and a family popping one out 18 times. The Duggars would qualify as a freak show without regard to politics. Rep. Snyder's situation is fodder for the public only because he is our Congressman and not due to he and Betsy becoming parents late in life.
Still. This is nothing I would want to do at his age. This is nothing I would want to do as a man in my early fifties. But to each his own. The potential college tuition bill will send Vic back to practicing medicine long before politics does.

Don't get me wrong I am happy for them, and hope all turns out well, if they want to have 14 more and equal the Duggars then so be it.
As far as I am concerned they can have as many kids at whatever age they want to, it's their life.
I am just wondering though why aren't the Duggars entitled to the same freedom of choices that most on this board claim everyone should have. Freedom to make what one thinks is the right choice is a hell of a lot different than freedom of choice.
Hugh- freakish is in the eye of the beholder......some would say having kids at 60 years old is just as freakish as having 18 kids. By the way the I am sure the fertility problem had something to do with the ages of the parents.

"Hugh- freakish is in the eye of the beholder......"
That's why I qualified the statement as my opinion.
Incidentally, I'm 47 and have a 5 year old. On several occasions strangers have assumed I was his grandfather. My wife and I didn't meet until we were in our late 30s and neither had ever been married before--not that a lack of marital history is important. I think Vic and Betsy also met when they were (WELL!) out of their 20s.

I really hope the congressman will look into the eyes of newborn children and quickly understand how important it is that he quit voting to fund our endless genocidal killing spree in the M.E.... If a 60 year old man wants children, can't he be responsible enough to demand with all his heart and soul that we quit needlessly blowing up babies all around the world?

I have repeatedly tried to stop the Duggars from having another child. I called, I emailed, I sent telegrams until Western Union went out of biz. I sent pictures of Jesus on the cross, my Mom in curlers. I found an article in a medical journal showing penises broken in sex mishaps....I've tried everything! And apparently nothing will stop them 2 from going at it like pgs on a spring day. They're incorrigible when it comes to sex. Michelle won't leave Jim Bob alone....always pawing pawing pawing.
Poor child number 3 is constantly standing guard at her parent's door. How she can stand listening to her parents going at it day and night must show the hand of Jesus is on her ears. And how would it make a child feel knowing Mom and Dad are in there making another little squirming brat that they'll have to raise while the Ps are getting made up in the Discovery Channel van for another edition of Cheaper By The Gross.
So the answer is.....no one can stop the Duggars from FKing....no one! Over and over, day in and night out...praying and doin it...praying and doin it...trips to the store... and doin it, doin it when the TV cameras turn off...always doin it. I'm going to call them again...but I already know they do it at 3 pm, so no one will answer the phone. Oh those Duggars!

Didn't know people still had sex at that age
Truly hope the little ones come out ok...dangers lurk for a woman her age.
We had our last one when hubby was 50 but, I was 36, still felt I was too old plus my baby
was 10 1/2 and like starting all over.

Victor and Betsy need our prayers. This is a blessing for them, but a very scary blessing. For one thing, it gives Penn some siblings, which is a good thing given the ages here. On the other hand, in a horrible worst case he could end up without a mother. Take that, add in their jobs, and they have got to be amazed, shocked and overwhelmed. There is a group at Quapaw that is praying for them every day.

I haven't heard the"Vic is gay" smear in years. I guess being married and to the clergy no less will get you off that particular radar screen.
But yeah, that was the rumor the rednecks put out about him back when he ran for State Representative years ago. And now we actually have a board certified gay person representing this District.
That put an end to all of the "Kathy Webb is gay" rumors too.

When the "Vic is gay" rumors were going around, he was dating a friend of mine (female) who was more than 20 years younger than him.
I do remember driving down Markham by the deaf/blind school once and seeing a guy walking down the sidewalk in the distance. My girlfriend and I made a comment about the his "swishy" gait. When we got close we realized it was Vic. Maybe it's that and the moustache.

I do wish Vic & Betsy peace and happiness during and after the birth of these babies. Being 47 though, she will probably be on bed rest soon. Congratulations to Penn on becoming a big brother!
OMG, the Duggar comments are hilarious!!! DBI, the only One who can get those two "rabbits" to stop making babies is God himself. How many times have both of them said that "as long as God wants them to have children, they will"? So, maybe you should send Him an email with your request and He can forward it onto the Jim Bob and Michelle.
Let's not forget though that this post is about Vic, Betsy and Penn announcing the upcoming birth of the Snyder Trips...not the going at it like rabbits, baby making machines in Springdale.
