So much for retirement

Dow drops 350. Oil prices head to $170 a barrel. Fed warns of inflation. Heckuva job Bushie. No. Wait. It's probably Clinton's fault.

Oil isn't the only thing that's twisting a household budget all to hell. Took the little beast to the vet for her annual. ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FOUR Cheneydollars for a check-up and booster shots. The vets have created a way to keep up with rising costs. They find something new each year to protect your beloved dog from. I swear I think today's vets must have been to dental school with that long listing of every test, nasal spray, shots and pill given. Glad the little darlin bitch didn't need an X-ray or C-Scan, but I bet ya that's next.
What the hell, the dog will outlive me.
.

The speculators are turning up their profits while the meters remain unregulated... or someone knows the USA or Israel are about to bomb 75 million innocent people of Iran FOR THE FUN OF IT.

It's much cheaper to give the dog's vaccination and rabies shots yourself. You can go to your nearby Farm Supply Store (I go to the one in Conway, but there is one in NLR) and buy the 7-in-1 shot AND the rabies shot for about $7.00. Make sure you know how to give a proper injection. It's an easy task, you just need to make sure you know what you are doing.

Max, would you please take an economics course in summer school. Everything is not Bush's fault. Iraq, yes. Economy, the enemy is us with our SUV's, 5000 sq. feet houses, voters and Congress unwilling to say no to any spending project. And then add the Chinese and Indians. And I won't be crude and add food consumption, since I'm on the pudgy side.

Thanks sly. But my partner used to be vet assistant, now she's RN, and says all dogs should be tested before any shots are given. Our Parsons Russell Terrier is particularly fond of digging (3 moles for her trophy collection in 1 year) and she is subject to particular fungus that grows in soil and infects her nasal area. That med cannot be found at farm supply and it was $55 of the total. Her tests ran $63. Rabies vaccination by a lic vet is now necessary to get an annual dog license in Chickenopolis. That was $15. There is also Bordetella vaccination ($15) in the event we leave the precious in kennel and she is exposed to kennel cough virus. Next time I expect the itemized bill to be 2 pages.
Additionally I buy her a pound of fresh beef liver weekly to supplement her $2.99 lb dog food. Fresh liver at the Mexican market costs less per pound than her dog food. She gets 4 walks per day, and at least two body massages.
Did I mention that our vet said she's in excellent health?

Last time I checked, Max, the Democratic Party controlled BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS. You guys are going to get off that easy.

Ahem, what I meant to write was that "You guys are NOT going to get off that easy." However, in light of the lamestream media, maybe the first version was the more accurate one.

Hey, Bubber, how come none of your listing of evils was a problem in 1995-2000? The big push for SUVs was done by Darth Cheney when HE designed tax credits so lucrative that you could buy a large SUV and pay for 40% of it via tax credits.

In case you failed to catch on in Econ 101 ONLY THE GOVERNMENT can create inflation. Your buddies
Bush and Cheney did that is short order by monetizing BILLIONs, maybe Trillions of NEW DEBT. Check out
the last time we tried to fight an optional war on credit. The same thing happened. Oil prices soared in the 1970s causiing business failures, and farm failures to soar. Tricky Dick Nixon didn't see much sense in regulating the mortgage industry either and millions lost their homes while thousands of developers went broke. Back then they were using the kitchens in apartment buildings as collateral to obtain second mortgages.
Same old song. This time though is different...it's worse. Total U.S. indebtedness is much greater.

Wonder if I can return 4 T-bone steaks to Kroger for cash????

Last time I checked, Max, the Democratic Party controlled BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS. You guys are [not] going to get off that easy.<<

Pines, you have a problem with process? Republics controlled Congress for 12 years. Demos are now majority in the House only and that has been since Jan 07 or 17 months ago. The Senate's a perfect tie, 49 to 49 with two independents. Keep in mind the Dems don't have an effective majority in Congress, most progressive House measures are killed in the Senate or vetoed by Monkey Boy. Republics control the Dept of Justice so not much can be done about the massive corruption.

I do blame the Demos for caving in on Iraq occupation spending. No excuse for it.

FTP Right.. the DINOs aka Blue Dogs or New Dems are helping the Republicans drag our country down, for the exclusive benefit of the rich and their ability to raise lots of campaign money from them.

MIC is the number one (though not only) problem on every level.. moral, economic and environmental. Nearly 70 percent of US citizens have understood this for awhile to the point they want our troops to come home. But DINOS and GOPERS just keep killing and keep funding the MIC burning nearly half of all US oil consumption..and keep borrowing to do it, with no end in sight. We couldn't get this far into madness without bipartisan support... The difference is there are at best 2 or 3 Republicans who get it at all.. and somewhere between 35 and 50 percent of the Dems who get it completely.

Clearly all incumbent Republicans need to go, only about about half the Dems. ( i would add all AR Federal representatives need to go, including needless war loving Snyder) There is no such thing as good genocide... and Snyder rarely misses a chance to support MIC.

"George Bush, and a Republican Congress, have presided over a 55 percent increase in the size of domestic government spending in the last seven years."

-John McCain on Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Wonder if I can return 4 T-bone steaks to Kroger for cash????" jazzy

Hey I got a deal for you. Keep the T-bones, me and my crew (one man, one woman, cute dog) will join you and bring wine. Do you prefer Ripple Light or Boone's Farm dark?

To the Pines,

Please define CONTROL of both houses of Congress.

The Senate has 100 members.

49 Republicans
49 Democrats
2 Independents
(Bernie Sanders leans Democratic but Joe Lieberman has really let down Democrats)

53% of House is Democrat (woo baby what a advantage)

A tie in the Senate

THEN DOG PILE 100% TOTAL CONTROL OF WHITE HOUSE!

The Democrats have 31 extra in House and we run the world!!!!!! HA HA HA !!!! (Rediculous statement I would say).

Com'on Elwood, we'll fire up the grill and have a *last supper* together......
nice T-bones and a big bag of King Crab legs......
hell, if we are going down the drain might as well go in style, huh???
We prefer the Muskidine Blush wine, bring plenty.............and,,,,
bring that cute dog.

Bill Clinton's fault?
Nay.
Maybe a few years ago they would've tried that. But now, everybody (including REpugs) realizes that Clinton was one of our greatest presidents, and they don't wanna make much reference to him in any comparisions with DUHbyuh the Boy Geenyuss. Lately, they've been trying to revert to Jimmy Carter (who, by the way, was a god compared to Bush), so I suspect they'll try to blame this wonderful economy on him somehow. Hell, after all, Bush has only been in office for, what, 7 1/2 years. How the hell could he screw everything up so badly in that short of a time? That would have to be some kind of record.
Democratic Congress? That's about the lamest bullshit argument I've ever heard. Does that mean the the REpugnikun congress was at fault for Clinton's cigarcapades and Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction?
I am confident that Bush will go down in history as the biggest dipshit president of all - especially once he's out of office and they finally dig in and expose all the millionaires he's made into billionaires at the expense of the middle class & poor. It's gonna be so much fun.

MUSCADINE....pardon....its the Arky drawl...........
com'on Max,,,,open a thread....:-)

Great job, Max. You really went above and beyond detailing how each of your complaints are the president's fault.

Whose fault is it, Anon?

I didnt see any mention of Bush in the article. To summarize the article Max linked:

Opecs President said Oil could reach $170 a barrel this summer

Analyst downgraded key US Stocks which caused the market to drop.

Libya considers cutting production in an already tight supply high demand oil market.

Both Democrats and Republicans share the blame for the hole we're in. Neither has invested in the infrastructure to make us more energy self-sufficient. We have the technology, and we have the natural resources. The Democatic party's opposition to drilling for domestic oil, natural gas, and the building of new power plants and refineries has made us slaves to the oil rich countries.

Looking to the future, we have John McCain who understands that our economy runs on energy, and we have Barry "Nobomba" Obama who thinks that we need no new energy. Even if we get electric cars, under Obama, there will be no electricity to run them. Obama does plan to divert more corn to ethanol to placate Tom Daschle and his other cronies. Obama opposes the use of nuclear power plants and storage of the spent fuel rods in Yucca Mountain. The Democratic plan seems to be make energy scarce and extremely expensive to force people to conserve. If it happens to lead to a depression so be it, at least it will reduce global warming by 0.00001 degrees.

Our servitude to oil rich countries is much older than this Congress.

This [bluename] didn't help matters any.

>>If it happens to lead to a depression so be it, at least it will reduce global warming by 0.00001 degrees.<< Service

In the event you're still plugging away a self-employment remember that on here you heard it- Bush/Cheney have already set up the coming Depression. That's why in '04 and '05 masser Dick bought him about $25 miillion iin Euro backed securities and $10 million in gold stocks. These guys won't suffer much because of their stupidity. You will.

You would be advised to have a big roll of $20s cause when it falls apart it would be too dangerous to have $50s or $100s hanging around. Black market suppliers may not want to make change for those. Would make you a target when you flash those bills around.

50% of the current oil price is due to rampant speculation in oil futures. Learn the facts or STFU.

Bush and Congress have once again failed this country.

Max,
I hope you and others pulled your money out of the stock market last year like I did.
There was no way I was keeping mine in stocks with the oil price bubble.
When oil hit $90 a took it all out and very glad I did.
I thought there was going to be a big oil bubble and hurt stocks, but
I never imagined Washington would let it go this far.

"Many Americans understandably are upset with the sharp spike in gas prices since Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast in August, and are concerned by reports of oil company profits. But we must understand that high oil prices are not the result of an unregulated free market. On the contrary, the oil industry is among the most regulated and most subsidized of U.S. industries. Perhaps we need to ask ourselves whether too much government involvement in the oil markets, rather than too little regulation, has kept the supply of refined gasoline artificially low."

" Most Americans agree that the American economy should not be dependent upon Middle East oil. Economist George Reisman, however, explains that our own domestic regulations make us slaves to OPEC: "Today, it is possible once again to bring about a dramatic fall in the price of oil - indeed, one even larger than occurred in the 1980s. And it could begin right away. All that is necessary is to abolish the U.S. government's restrictions on domestic energy production inspired by the environmentalist movement."

"What can Congress do to provide Americans with some relief at the pump? First it can suspend federal gas taxes, which would save consumers nearly 20 cents per gallon. In the long term, Congress must pass legislation like HR 4004, which I introduced earlier this month. HR 4004 takes a comprehensive approach by allowing offshore drilling, eliminating regulations that restrict refining, and suspending harmful tax rules that discourage domestic oil production. If we hope to have a stable, affordable supply of gas, we must allow the free market to operate."

Less Government means less oil money for Cheney/Bush? We can drill our way out of this energy crisis...give-me-a-break...PLEASE!

"Exxon-Mobil has earned more money than any other American company in the past five years. But last year, it's most profitable ever, its profit was only 10.9 percent of revenues, Fortune magazine reported last month. Bank of America's profits were 12.6 percent, Pfizer's were 16.8 percent, Coca-Cola's were 20.7 percent, Google's were 25.3 perccent, and Microsoft's were 27.5 percent."

" You might also be interested to know that 52 percent of Exxon-Mobil's stock is owned by fund investors such as mutual and pension funds. That means you. If it is slapped with a windfall profits tax, your retirement plan might be the one paying the price.

And if all that weren't enough, there is the evidence from the 1980s. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter advocated and Congress imposed a windfall profits tax on oil companies. Guess what happened? Domestic oil exploration dropped, and the promised tax revenues did not materialize. It actually made us more dependent on foreign oil. Isn't that what Congress wants to prevent?"

As far as I'm concerned if it's bad...Monkeyboy's responsible. He's the trifecta: Arrogance, ignorance and incompetence wrapped up in unaccountable corporate greed. Then there's that family gene pool of his...

My little stray (free ha) doggy cost a whopping $400 two weeks ago eLwood. Neutering, yearly crap and heart worm medicine...and our vet is one of the cheapest. (Of course our 'free' stray has inflammatory tummy troubles that require steroids so that adds another level of care...including prescription venison dog food.) All my other strays have been mixed breeds who could eat with the vultures and were healthy until they died. (One died of cancer but was healthy until her death...I STILL miss my Lucky!) Anyway...glad the son's grown so we can spend his inheritance on our little freebie. He's worth every penny. But I believe the extraordinarily high cost of vet care is contributing to more strays who need homes.

I believe our dogs wandered into our lives about the same time, eLwood...good thing Monkeyboy gave us some of our grandkids' money.

News release: Cause of Dow drop.

Santa to drown this summer as ice at the north pole completely melts for the first time in known history.

Happy election and merry Christmas.
