SNIFFING OUT PREDATORS: Police Chief Richard Friend of Shannon Hills
I've expressed previously some skepticism about the immense amount of time devoted by the North Little Rock police to posing as jailbait on the Internet to lure the attention of potential sex offenders around the world.
Now I learn that that crime-fighting colossus -- the Shannon Hills police department -- is similarly waging war against Internet predators. Nuts. And a little weird. The police chief, Richard Friend, defends:
Friend said he justifies spending his small department’s limited resources on Internet sex stings because it prevents suspects from finding real children online.
“When I tied him up for 13 months, that was one less kid he could show those things to,” Friend said.
It also tied up Shannon Hills police for 13 months with naughty talk with a sailor in Washington when, presumably, there might have been some pressing business closer to the station house. The force is depicted below.

Guy must be on the computer non-stop. Be interesting to have a camera trained on him during . . . well, you get the idea.
Oh, and Shannon Hills is big time into property seizures from druggies. Be forewarned, especially if you're from out of town and drive, oh, say a Corvette. If it's like around here, somebody in the PD's gonna want that pretty car.

I wonder how often the officers working this entrapment duty from one law enforcement agency "hook-up" with another cop trolling the internet on the taxpayers tab. You know it's got to happen frequently, but we just don't hear about it. It's got to help the sale of Mike's Hard Lemonade.

Internet sex predators, as horrifying as there are, are not the threat they're hyped to be.

They must really "enjoy" what they are seeing. They really have no better use of their resources??

Yep, while the Sherwood finest were catching a perv, and good for them, some guy was claiming that he was being vandalized and then for good measure he goes and kills somebody, and everything ends up a mess there.
Go, Sherwood.

Richard Friend is a good guy....He took over a department where the former chief was investigated (later convicted)....He fired the entire department and started over - now the department has the respect of the locals....I agree with most of you who say there are more pressing issues than pervs on puters, but at least he is not sitting at the coffee shop doing nothing....Talk about the more pressing issues without slammin' a guy who is trying to make a difference....Yes, I'm a cop so I know my opinion may not count to the regulars on this thread........
ARK. BLOG: It counts. But I think the 13 months spent trying to entrap a potential predator could have been better spent in town.

Yes, you count, but not until we've investigated this police posting incident thoroughly.
