We're all Obamaists now
DEMOCRATIC PARTY NEWS RELEASE
Upon the announcement by Senator Hillary Clinton that she today is officially suspending her Presidential campaign, Democratic Governor Mike Beebe, Democratic members of the Arkansas Congressional Delegation, Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel, Secretary of State Charlie Daniels, State Treasurer Martha Shoffner, Land Commissioner Mark Wilcox and State Auditor Jim Wood pledged their support for Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the Presidency of the Untied States.
They release the following statement:
"Senator Clinton is a part of our Arkansas family and we were proud and honored to support her throughout her campaign for President of the United States. With today's news that Senator Clinton suspended her candidacy, we now pledge our support to the presumptive Democratic nominee for the Presidency, Senator Barack Obama."
LT. GOV. BILL HALTER'S SEPARATE RELEASE
LITTLE ROCK (June 7, 2008) - I congratulate Senator Hillary Clinton for
running a determined campaign and advancing public policies that are
critical to the future of our country. Her career in public service has
improved the lives of millions of Americans.
I wholeheartedly endorse Senator Barack Obama for President of the
United States and encourage others to do the same. Senator Obama brings
the changes in direction that our country needs, new energy, and new
voices to this election.
The Democratic nomination contest has energized Americans in every state
and brought record numbers of new participants to the polls. Now is
the time to unite the Democratic Party around our nominee.

Dump Howard Dean. And next time, give us a primary focused on the candidates, not the process.

Either way, I think we're scr*wed.
By the way, is there really a video of Michelle Obama ranting about whitey? Has anyone really seen it if it truly exists????

Dump Howard? I thought AR Dems basically have, via ignoring him and not allowing any reasonably well funded challenge of Pryor, Ross, or even Boozeman.
Speaking of those three neo peas in a pod... this can't be a good day for any of them..and that is reason eneogh to celebrate.

OdaMae - No. TPM has the details.. at my name
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
There is some info over at TPM about this..
Is Bogus Michelle Obama Rumor Based On A Work Of Fiction?
Despite the tenuousness of this rumor, Obama was actually asked about this non-existent video in front of the national press by a reporter the other day. Understandably, he pushed back hard on the notion that he should have to answer such a question.
Now Jim Geraghty of National Review has claimed that the rumor may be based on.fiction. A political thriller called The Power Broker, published in 2006 by Stephen Frey, features the presidential campaign of Dem candidate Jesse Wood, who's aspiring to be the country's first African-American president.
[ ]
If this was the basis for the rumor, Obama was forced to respond not just to a rumor, but to one that was consciously based on a published work of fiction. Welcome to General Election 2008, everyone!

Anyone notice how the names Berry and Ross were not listed on this particular release?
I don't think Mark, Blanche or Vic would have an issue with it, but you can't name three without the other two.
Fun times...

Also noticing the sentence construction here. Isn't Mike Beebe the governor for all Arkansans, and not just Democrats?

I might have to go change my name to DBIObama or something! I am SO on the team! I do fault the national Democratic Party and the state Democratic Party for not seeing to it that we had real party people to run against Pryor, Boozman, Ross or anyone else who has helped Cheney-Bush ruin this country.
We must cast out the devils. I look forward to watching Rebekah Kennedy tear Mark W. Pryor a new ass in the coming months. All she has to do is use the treasonous Bush-Pryor voting record, Mark's unusually close incestuous relationship with Joe LIEberman. His silence when every other good American was shouting to the rooftops. We must dump Mark W. Pryor and gear up to do the same to Blanche Lincoln in '10. They are an embarrassment to our state.
If anyone is paying attention, Abel Tomlinson should trounce Whispering John Boozman this fall. Boozman is a Bush 100%er, but at least he IS a Republican and all that that implies. To get Blue in Arkansas this time around you'll have to vote Green. We can't expect change if we don't vote change this November, the Green Party is our only hope on a state level.
Let the fighting between Democrats stop now. It's time to make a stand, draw a line in the sand and go into attack mode in the slim hope that it's not too late to save our country. McCain and the Mark Pryors of our party must be defeated. Our next President and our next Congress must bring justice to our current White House criminals. America cannot wash off the bloodstains of the last 8 years unless we punish those who who have committed war crimes in our name. The word Katrina should be all it takes to insure a Democratic landslide not seen in modern times. Let's do it! Hurray for Barack Obama!

Next time give us a primary based on the same rules the survivor will have to follow in November: winner take all of the electoral votes for that state. Ridiculous to select the nominee playing by one set of rules that are quite different from the "real" ones the survivor will face in the general election.
As a friend said, that's like having the US basketball team play by NBA rules during its exhibition season, knowing they will have to change to Olympic rules for the Olympics. The Dems will always find a way to shoot themselves in the foot. Who would have won the nomination if winner-take-all had been the rule, and how long ago would it all have been settled? That should be a piece of cake for somebody to figure out.

I'm sure it's just a typo, but this caught my eye in the Democratic press release--
"pledged their support for Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the Presidency of the Untied States."
"Untied" States--sometime it feels that way!

It'll be a cold day before a black is voted for president. Its bad that no one worth anything will take the challenge to run for president.
Those running the gov are nothing but wheelerdealers out to get rich off the tax payers.
Like its been said the democrap are the best thing going for the republican party.

We are witnessing a political phenomenon with Barack Obama of rare magnitude. His speeches have inspired millions and yet most of his followers have no idea of what he stands for except platitudes of 'Change' or that he says he will be a 'Uniter'.
The power of speech from a charismatic person truly can be a powerful thing. There was another person in the 1930's that was a charismatic speaker.
Just Some of What Defines Barack Obama:
· He voted against banning partial 'birth abortion'.
· He voted no on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions.
· Supports affirmative action in Colleges and Government.
· In 2001 he questioned harsh penalties for drug dealing.
· Says he will deal with street level drug dealing as minimum wage affair.
· Admitted marijuana and cocaine use in high school and in college.
· His religious convictions are very murky.
· He is willing to meet with Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung IL, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
· Has said that one of his first goals after being elected would be to have a conference with all Muslim nations.
· Opposed the Patriot Act.
First bill he voted for was campaign finance reform.
Voted No on prohibiting law suits against gun manufacturers.
Supports universal health-care.
Voted yes on providing habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees.
Supports granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.
Supports extending welfare to illegal immigrants.
Voted yes on comprehensive immigration reform.
Voted yes on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security.
Wants to make the minimum wage a 'living wage'.
Voted with Democratic Party 96 percent of 251 votes.
Is a big believer in the separation of church and state? (Not if he is a Muslim)
Opposed to any efforts to Privatize Social Security and instead supports increasing the amount of tax paid.
He voted No on repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax
He voted No on repealing the 'Death' Tax
He wants to raise the Capital Gains Tax.
Has repeatedly said the surge in Iraq has not succeeded.
He is ranked as the most liberal Senator in the Senate today and that takes some doing.
Also...
His mentor as a young man was Frank Davis a Member of the Communist Party USA.
His friends in school were leftist and Marxists.
His Mother was an America hater. For a short time she was part of the Shinning Path in Peru. (Read about his mother. She had a huge impact on his thinking as an impressionable child.)
Please investigate the depth and consequences of these decisions and his background before you have a 'Knee Jerk' reaction at how they may sound positive.
If your political choices are consistent with Barack Obama's and you think that his positions will bring America together or make it a better place, then you will probably enjoy the ride. If you are like most Americans that after examining what he stands for are truly not in line with his record, it would be prudent to get off the wave or better yet, never get on, before it comes on shore and undermines the very foundations of this great Country. We have limited time to save America or the Supreme Court as we know it. Inaction is action.

Whoever you are chasv, congratulations on your ability to lift someone else's speech and post it here.
That having been said, I agree with Obama 95% of the time, and he's got my vote. I supported Hillary Clinton but have always said I'd vote for the Democratic nominee, no matter what. I stand by that.
Your earlier post was the most telling. I love a cold day, don't you?

I would expect any Christian candidate to support the following positions:
· Supports affirmative action in Colleges and Government.
- Jesus opposed the rich and powerful
· In 2001 he questioned harsh penalties for drug dealing.
- We've got 5% of the world's population but 25% of the prison population. How fair is that?
· Says he will deal with street level drug dealing as minimum wage affair.
- Justice and mercy
· Admitted marijuana and cocaine use in high school and in college.
- Let he who is without sin....
· He is willing to meet with Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung IL, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
· Has said that one of his first goals after being elected would be to have a conference with all Muslim nations.
- Jesus never refused to speak with anyone. Without talking how do you ever find peace?
· Opposed the Patriot Act.
- So did true conservatives
First bill he voted for was campaign finance reform.
- Why give the rich an even larger headstart?
Voted No on prohibiting law suits against gun manufacturers.
- Why should they be above justice?
Supports universal health-care.
- Duh.
Voted yes on providing habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees.
- Everyone has a right to know why they are charged.
Supports granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.
- You'd rather them drive illegally?
Supports extending welfare to illegal immigrants.
- Charity is always good.
Voted yes on comprehensive immigration reform.
- If you don't like what we've got now why oppose reform?
Voted yes on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security.
- They pay into it.
Wants to make the minimum wage a 'living wage'.
- It's hard to find a more Christian position than that.
Is a big believer in the separation of church and state? (Not if he is a Muslim)
- Give Rome what is Rome's.
Opposed to any efforts to Privatize Social Security and instead supports increasing the amount of tax paid.
- Jesus would put my retirement in the stock market so traders can get richer? I don't think so.
He voted No on repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax
- Fair is fair
He voted No on repealing the 'Death' Tax
- You mean the obscenely rich person's, 1% of the population's, tax.
He wants to raise the Capital Gains Tax.
- No sweat of the brow here, just pure profit.
Has repeatedly said the surge in Iraq has not succeeded.
- And it hasn't.

"First bill he voted for was campaign finance reform."
Was that MCCAIN-Feingold by any chance?
"Supports universal health-care."
He thinks everyone should have health care?! Does he want the uninsured to live or something?
"Wants to make the minimum wage a 'living wage"
Crazy liberal. Minimum wage people deserve to die...right?

Obama does NOT support universal health care. If he did, I would support him, in spite of the misogyny, because it would benefit myself and those I love.
I'm going green this time, unless by some chance Clinton ends up on the ballot. If she's there, she has MY vote!

Interesting litany of Obama's votes and positions he has expressed.
Yet nothing is said about what he, himself, has done.
Has he ever initiated anything or is he just a blind follower of the crowd?
A president should be a leader, not a follower.
Now that it is time to put him under the spotlight, I see little reason to vote for him again based on his "credentials".

I always love these comments - My Party, Right or Wrong.
I totally and wholeheartedly reject this philosophy. Blind loyalty and obedience to a party is little different than blind loyalty and obedience to a religion (as is so often ridiculed in these threads).
I have voted for Republicans AND Democrats AND Independents. My Party (whichever it is at the moment) doesn't always offer the best candidate.

No Don...it's not my party right or wrong....it's YOUR PARTY wrong as any group that ever scorched the the earth of this planet. If I hated Barack Obama, I'd still be there to vote for him in November because another Republican in the White House will be a world kiss of death. Your party wrong and wrong and wrong and wrong.
It's good to see chasv getting out the Dinosaur message! Remember to keep the tires on your Jazzy aired up so you can roll down to vote for McCain this November.

>>I totally and wholeheartedly reject this philosophy. <<
I completely agree, DK, but that's where I find myself this year. I believe John McCain (if Bush doesn't beat him to it) will bomb Iran and that is not acceptable. I believe McCain must be stopped. I started out a strong supporter of BHO, but as time went by I changed my mind. I think there is much to be learned by Mr. Obama, and wish he had waited a few years - but I have confidence he won't start another stupid war and right now, that's enough for me.
There is now such a stark difference between the two parties, that it is easier for me to just say I will vote for the Democrat, however I have voted Republican in the past. I wonder how many Republicans on this blog have voted for a Democrat in the past.

In regard to the topic of Obama as the Democratic nominee, and if I may represent the genuine progressive, intellectual branch of the Democratic Party, I offer a very tempered endorsement. Originally, I was 100% for Kucinich, who to me, a thinker, is an angel or diamond among the rough. He was right about the war from the beginning, he was right about HR 676 single-payer national healthcare, he was right about Bush's war crimes and impeachment, come to think of it he was right about almost everything, which is why I love him and if I was gay and in California, I would marry him. Oh yeah, forgot about his superhot wife...damn! He got that woman because he is Politically Sexy. We would never had to worry about affairs in the Oval Office with a Kucinich President.
With all that said, where was I? Oh! Since the true progressive Democrat is out of the race, we were forced to rummage among the scraps. Of the scraps, I believe Obama is the best moderate corporate Democrat. Although he bowed down to the military industrial complex and AIPAC and essentially gave them felatio, so did McCain and Clinton. Despite this sad, sad subservience to the complex that a f**king Republican(eisenhower) warned against. It blows my mind that millions of intelligent Republicans and Democrats do not have that Farewell Address memorized by heart and are wiling to intellectually come to a bloody fight over this issue of the corporate-military hostile takeover of our government.
Although Obama is tainted in the aforementioned realm, he does still represent some hope for intellectual progressives, such as myself. He is able to really bring the nation together from all directions and tries to be welcoming to all people. He also really leaves the door open to the potentiality that he will be listening to what the people want, and hopefully if the people ultimately demand he stop felating the complex, then perhaps he could fulfill the "hope and change" ideas he promotes.
In terms of the other option-John McBush, oh my god.... is this still up for debate??? Are there really any Democrats on here that can argue for McCain and still maintain that they are not racist or insane? Obama is 1,000,000,000,000 times better than that Bushclone-Iraq & Iran war and tax cuts for the ultra-rich. WTF?
Speaking of Bushclones, I am running against one in the 3rd District and would love for anyone interested in a real progressive candidancy to please visit my website at http://abelforcongress.com/
