Admiral Hays' KOA
Argenta News continues to ride NLR Commodore Pat Hays on the RV park he wants to put on the banks of the beautiful Arkansas River, just downstream from the mayor's mothball fleet.
No one likes to talk about it much, but there are major issues with the RV Park location. The proposed RV Park located on the River is right next to a barge loading facility to the east. The barge loading operation has several trackhoes and front end loaders with all the noise and fumes working within a few dozen yards of where the RVs will park.

Aw, c'mon, guys. When you have a big bad RV, you want to get away from it all -- from the green, green lawns, the shade trees, the itty bitty, usually non-smelly, cars easing down your street every now and then.
What better place to find peace than in a nice industrial area -- loaders and trackhoes at 6 a.m., diesel fumes, dust. And at night, oh, at night, just blocks away from, er, uh , well, you know . . .
On second thought, maybe even at high noon. Not too many years ago, not too far from there (at the Taco Bell that was swallowed up by Alltel Arena), a friend and I both dropped our tacos when we saw a skinny guy sprint past our window in his all togethers, the local Keystones hotfooting it after him.
I think he got away. Keystones were weighed down by clothes and gear and flab and the last we saw of the guy's shiney hiney, he was headed between buildings across the street, pulling away fast.
(By the way, in the space of a few seconds, nearly every person in the building, including the most of the employees, was rushing the windows.)
I say, what better place to sightsee, to see how hoi polloi go about their daily lives.

At least his "mothball" fleet will see some action this week ... ironically, though.
Celebrate the 4th of July on board the USS Razorback Submarine! Riverfront
Park, North Little Rock.
7:00 p.m., Friday, July 4th.
Arkansas Women's Action for New Directions (WAND) and the ARKANSAS INLAND
MARITIME MUSEUM (AIMM) are hosting a party at the Submarine on the Arkansas
River in North Lttle Rock. Free Parking. Cash bar. Come hear the incredible
band Damn Bullets, enjoy a picnic supper included in this price and watch the
fireworks right overhead.
There will also be super Silent Auction with many great restaurant options
available to bid on. Tickets are $25 each and you can make checks payable to
AIMM and mail to WAND: 2510 Hidden Valley Drive, Little Rock, AR 72212. You may
also contact Jean Gordon at 225-1323 for more information or go to the WAND

RVs get 2 mpg...a little more diesel fume wont be noticed. RVs have their own noisy a/c's and generators. The construction equipment doesnt work at night anyway. Like it or not, the RV crowd is a significant part of the yearly Clinton Library attendance...ask Skip. They gotta be someplace, why not there? If you stop the RVs , then the next idea is an expensive, unoriginal sea aquarium requiring lots of public subsidy from now unto nigh.
