Another dishonest Bushie

It would appear that the lawyer who helped guide the Supreme Court nominations of Justices Roberts and Alito is a plagiarist, but Sen. Arlen Specter and the president still want him on the federal bench.

It is amazing to me how the Rovian adopted tactics of Josef Goebbels has permeated to all levels of association with the Bush administration.

Click on handle.

P.S. It's almost as if the old Nixon "Rat F***kers" initiation has been passed down to Bush appointees in some weird fashion. Remember Colson writing the "Canuck Letter" as his initiation into the President's Men.

It's almost as if you have to be caught in a lie and semi-successfully lie your way out of it to be a Bush appointee! What a sad commentary on our executive branch and country.

Yes, this is terrible, only the Bush administration could do such a terrible thing as willfully tell a lie.
This is unheard of a politician let alone a lawyer telling a lie.
Democrats would never do such a thing, they are honest to a fault. Why even if the truth would destroy them they would not sway to such an extreme as lying.

O'Neil is one of those GOP fascists who should be greeted only with torches and pitchforks.

O'Neil is one of Orrin's Hatchlings.

O'Niel is one of the cretins who inserted much of the worst language into the Patriot Act. (including the language which allowed Bush to appoint folks like Griffin as AR DA without Senate confirmation. Years later when this was "discovered" Specter feigned shock and denied knowing anything about it.. But did he fire O'Neil? No, he's helping promote him to the bench.

And we think voting out the GOP is all we need to do to turn this ship around?

Anyone think Mark Pryor will do anything other than approve confirmation of O'Neil?

Wes- yes, Democrats lie too. But unlike Republicans who are professional liars, they tend to lie about such things as "I did not have sex with that woman" versus "I did not invade that country when we didn't need to" or "We compassionate conservatives are so proud of the help we gave Katrina victims".

Get the difference?

Re Michael O'Neill's judicial nomination- the Times article reads he 'never knowingly passed off other scholars' statements as his own'. How convenient! If he robbed a bank but said he 'never knowingly' did it, would it follow he had not robbed the bank? I don't think so.

The Times article also says "he is working on a master's degree in writing fiction". I'd say he has already mastered writing fiction.

Thanks for helping to forward my point, Wes.

Yes, Democrats, Moderates, Independents, Socialists, Communists, John Birchers, Tories, Neocons, Cons and Whigs lie. I'll bet I can even name more of them than you, but they don't make a cult or a fraternity or social group where telling a lie or series of lies is the initiation, but Nixon's Men did and the endless list of Bush appointees with "seriously challenged veracity deficiences" (worded in true Rovian fashion) begins to resemble the Nixon USC Mafia's club.

And it is as corrosive as Donald Segretti's dirty tricks ". . . with a little wit . . ." which by the way are illegal and cost him jail time and the loss of his law license and his run for judge of Orange County, but he was co-chair of John McCain's campaign in Orange County. Maybe it's that Republicans are just more forgiving and compassionate toward other Repbulicans that lie for a political cause?

Botom line no matter what the lie water boy it is still a lie. Whether you are a part of a cult or not.
Should I perfer one lie over another or should I treat all lies the same. What difference is it if it is a republican or a democrat like you said they all lie so why is it that this story hits the news, maybe because it is an election year and the author is trying create a bias for one party or the other. I mean really look at the head line:
"It would appear that the lawyer who helped guide the Supreme Court nominations of Justices Roberts and Alito is a plagiarist, but Sen. Arlen Specter and the president still want him on the federal bench."
This is not just reporting the facts but it seems to be an attempt to focus our attention in only one direction; the wrongs of the republicans. What about the wrongs of the democrats? And yes docholiday might even be able to recall a lot more political parties than I, but today the main focus is on the Democrats and the republicans. And don't try to tell me that this is a fair and logical blog as citizen home likes to claim is the liberals way of thinking. All politicians are the same they all have one goal "What can I do for me!" If this is a fair blog then treat them all the same Democrats and Republicans alike.

Wes, as usual you're making a big fuss to cover up for lacking useful information. What I want: a good peaceful country where everyone is treated equally, no one is forgotten, left out or ignored. I want freedom of expression and freedom to live my life as I chose within the law. I want a safe country for my children. I want our jobs to stay at home. I want those unable to care for themselves to be taken care of.

I don't want religion in my government or government in my religion. I don't want to rich to always take advantage of the poor. I want free education and free health care, and we can have both if we quit buying jets, tanks, and missiles. I don't want special treatment, or stimulus checks in the mail or an easy job on the governmental tit. I want nothing special for me or my family that you and you're family don't get also.

I want good honest government. I don't care for political parties, George Washington begged us not to form them. We could be like Canada, but instead we chose to beat our chests and export war and torture. We've lost the ability to hold honest elections. Our news is filled with lies. Far too many people are bought off and work for others.....not you and me.

I want to be left alone and I will promise to leave others alone. Our people are good, our government is bad. We need to fix our government. Period!

Then keep dreaming DBI because that is the only place in this life that you will find it.

Putting aside all consideration of his party affiliation and ideological bent, one can't miss the fact that this man lifted thoughtful and carefully-crafted expositions by other authors and passed them off as his own, in almost word-for-word form.

It doesn't make him an awful human being. It makes him a man who, at best, has too little regard for ethics and principle to deserve a lifetime appointment as guardian of our lives and liberty.

Even conservatives ought to demand that President Bush find a better standard-bearer for their cause (and I don't doubt there are many of them) -- that is, unless the president's approach is all about cronyism. And in that case, all I can say is "Heckuva job, Mikey."

I'd find it less egregious if the liftings had appeared in his work verbatim; he could have forgotten to "customize" and attribute them after copying and pasting. The fact that the cited one was modified slightly indicates knowledgeable action on his part--including another person's work and failure to cite his source. This "poor work method" is indicative of a poor thought method. It is inexcusable in a lawyer; it is inexcusable and unacceptable in a judge.

Perhaps the hearings for his appointment will serve as the orals for his degree in politics-- excuse me: writing fiction.
