Another mugamatic
Another abduction reported by gunmen seeking to get someone to tap an ATM. This note is going around to UAMS employees today from Chancellor Dodd Wilson:
I wanted to let you know of a situation that occurred this morning involving one of our employees who works at the Westmark Building on Markham Street across from the main campus.
The employee was abducted at gunpoint from the parking lot when she arrived at work at 5:30 a.m., and was taken to two ATM machines where she withdrew money. She was returned unharmed to the Westmark Building.
We are thankful that she was returned safely. UAMS police have stepped up patrols of campus parking areas and are looking at other ways to increase safety.
We ask all employees and students to be aware of their surroundings and to call UAMS police at 686-7777 if they see any suspicious activity. You may also call 911. Also, please remember that if you are on campus after dark or feel for any reason that you would like an escort to your car, the UAMS police are happy to assist you. If you arrive for work early and the building in which you work is locked and you don't have a key, please call UAMS police to unlock the door for you so you can go inside rather than waiting on the parking lot.
We want UAMS to be a safe environment and for everyone to feel secure. Our employees and students are very important to us.

Well that's a little unnerving, since I live very close to there.

I'm so glad we have a strong mayor who's strongly taking care of the strong crime problem.
STRONG.

video.
UAMS could do more w/ the Substance Abuse clinic patron at Cedar and Markham, loitering and smoking.
The fellas at Markham St Liquor actually do a good job of running off panhandlers and inappropriate behavior.

I don't suppose we could get some useful information, like a description perhaps, instead of generating free-floating fear?
At that time of day, chances are Perp was hanging out next door to the Westmark building in either (a) the 24-hour air-conditioned unattended laundromat next door, or (b) the 24-hour Shell station. Or Perp could be living at the crack motel. Remember the burglarly ring photos, busted in April 2008? Those people lived in the crack motel and squatted in the apartments on Markham & Pine for over a year before they were busted. They only caught six of them, but there were at least 10-12 involved.
I count the days when demolition will begin on the crack motel for the new Walgreens. The methadone clinic will be moving in December to the new Psychiatry building at UAMS, just when Walgreens is scheduled to open.
Is there a central location online where one can find out what kind of incidents are currently happening? The paper has the burglary reports, but they're usually too old to be of much use as a warning. UAMS Police dept reports don't give much detail. Note: a suspicious person was given a criminal trespass warning for hanging around the Westmark building on 7/18, no time of day given. Link bluename.

Incidents such as this are only going to get more frequent with the economy being what it is....and the weather! Even if this did occur at dark thirty in the morning, it is still quite uncomfortable out there.

Well we have Big Damn Bridge that 95% of the Citizens of Little Rock will never cross and a Junction Bridge (to cross the bridge you have to get on the bridge then go up and elevator then go down an elevator, dumbass idea) that 95% of the Citizens of Little Rock will never Cross, then we have our city government paying for $1700 congratulatory ads for city employees, and passing out thousands of dollars yearly to charities for tables at fund raisers (2007, American Heart Assoc. 5K, Ark. Black Hall of Fame $1,250, Women's Foundation $1,250, American Red Cross $1,250, etc. etc. etc. , but our streets are not safe. We have a city mgr. at 160K and a mayor at 160K, but our streets are not safe. We have a Advertising and Promotions bunch that spend millions that Kumpuris says "didn't do a damn thing wrong," but our streets are not safe. I call my city council member and she says the quorum courts are the problem, the quorum courts say its the city council, but our streets are still not safe. GET YOUR FU--ING PRIORITIES STRAIGHT!!!!!!!!!
And now they have the dumbass idea to run the Trolly out to the airport, what a dumbass idea. How much is that study going to cost the taxpayers, and our streets are still not safe.

Wow...ANOTHER abduction! When was the other one? Last one I recall was many months ago. This is why people's fears are over exaggerated. LR is not crime free folks.

I'm suspicious of this story: Victim was abducted, forced to visit two ATMs, then RETURNED to the place where she was kidnapped? Did they make her a sandwich too?
That story just doesn't sound right. But I'm just an ol' meany at heart.
