Arkie does good

More inside media baseball:

Bob Stover, a Dermott native (home folks knew him as Bobby Lee) who raised a ruckus while a student newspaper editor at OBU for supporting legalized mixed drinks, has been named executive editor of Florida Today, one of Gannett's leading daily newspapers. Stover had been managing editor. He joined the paper following the closure of the Arkansas Gazette, where he'd spent most of his journalism career in jobs including city hall reporter, state editor and chief of the sports department.

Comments

The funniest quote ever about Stover came a couple of days after Gannett bought the Gazette in 1986, a quote rendered back in the "smoke hole" break room: "If the Russians bought the Gazette today, he'd come to the office tomorrow in a fur hat." Its source will go unnamed.

But, hip hip hooray for Stover: he was a good guy, he knew his wine, and he could make some fine yeast rolls.

It appears the man has done his prelims....

Stover still faces war-crimes charges for aiding and abetting Phoebe Wall.

I guess if you're caught in the machine, you might as well be a functional cog. A worthy apparatchik.

Bob Stover, David Petty, Kate and hubby Frog Marymont, Kelley Bass . . .

A fine fellow, congratulations. I thought he went to Nashville after AG. Or was that Mark Oswald..no, Mark went to Santa Fe. Looked for him when there last March, and he has moved on somewhere else.
