Car thieves arrested
On the jump, an LRPD report on the arrest of three car burglars, WLR teens all, and a car full of their booty from some 25 car break-ins over a two-night span.
Good news. But, please, folks. If you don't leave anything in your car overnight, there's nothing for criminals to steal. It's Crime Prevention 101.
LRPD NEWS RELEASE
On July 30, 2008 at approximately 1:58 a.m., Officer Ted Adkins was in the area of Cantrell and Chenonceau when he observed a white 2008 Chevrolet Impala with a temporary tag, traveling at a high rate of speed. Officer Adkins conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver.
While talking to the driver, Officer Adkins observed numerous electronic items in the seats and on the floorboards of the vehicle, along with alcohol and what appeared to be two marijuana pipes. The occupants of the vehicle, Steven Jones, 19, of 33 Auriel Drive; Solomon Kitterman, 18, of 9 Johnson Ranch Road, and Anthony Thomason, 18, of 18122 Cantrell, were then placed into custody. Officers then located a credit card that did not belong to any of the occupants of the vehicle and was later found to be stolen. All occupants of the vehicle were transported to the DTDO. The vehicle’s trunk also contained numerous items and was impounded.
During the interview, Mr. Jones, Mr. Kitterman and Mr. Thomason admitted to breaking into approximately ten (10) vehicles during the night of July 28th and approximately fifteen (15) vehicles on July 29th. Mr. Jones was charged with four (4) counts of Breaking and Entering and Theft of Property. Mr. Kitterman was charged with four (4) counts of Breaking and Entering, four (4) counts of Theft of Property, and one (1) count of Possession of an Instrument of a Crime. Mr. Thomason was charged with four (4) counts of Breaking and Entering, four (4) counts of Theft of Property and one (1) count of Possession of an Instrument of a Crime. Additional charges may be filed at a later date.

Comments
At least Mr. Kitterman should have good representation given that his father is an attorney although I hope they throw the book at them all.

This will be interesting to follow...typically "WLR Teens" are given probation and a lecture when they are in front of City of Little Rock District Court Judges. If you're from the right zipcode...you get a kinder and gentler justice.

This should give pause to those who automatically assume that vandals like these are black, poor and deprived. All three of these kids grew up next door to a country club. "From those to whom much is given, much is expected." Yes, of course, but best not to hold your breath.

Why weren't they charged for possession of the two pipes officers noted in their reports?

Wylie,
Is Solomon the son of Greg Kitterman? Is the law firm Kitterman Kitterman Crisp that I pass every morning on my way into town?

ARK BLOG,
"Electronic equipment" sounds as if stereos were ripped from the dash. Should we rip our stereos from our dash each night and take them inside with us so there is nothing to steal? Crime prevention 101 and all.
I have enough trouble getting to work on time if I locate my keys, wallet, and cell phone. If I have to rewire my radio each morning I would deffinately be late. Or I would miss NPR on my drive in.
ARK. BLOG: Fair point. And I don't know the precise goods recovered in this arrest. But in recent days, there have been reports of iPods, cell phones, laptops, portable audio, purses and all other manner of non-attached stuff stolen from cars parked on the streets in the Heights and elsewhere. Dumb.

Aw c'mon. Why should I have to go to the trouble of securing the contents of MY car, parked on MY PROPERTY every night? What ever happened to law and order? Don't try to pass the responsiblility to ME for these kid's inability to obey the law. Shame on them and on their parents as well, they should know better.
These "kids" are 18 and 19 years old, not juveniles. Throw the damn book at them. I know they won't spend one minute in our regional detention facility, but 90 days of picking up trash on the side of the road will serve to reinforce a fair lesson. Don't take what isn't yours. They should have learned that one in kindergarten.
Please, don't try to blame the current "rethuglican" administration either. These are only petty criminals, not big time yet.

Ark Blog,
You are right about not leaving items in view in cars. My wife does it all the time. It drives me nuts.
As a teenager I spent the summer of the '80 heat wave with out a passenger window because my little sister borrowed my car to go try to be in the movie "Crisis at Central High". She parked down by Central and her friend left a purse on the seat. My little sister's reply was that the purse was empty because they had just bought it at The Mall. I pointed out that the thief had no way of telling it was empty.
My little sister's friend wanted me to claim the purse on my insurance. Problem was I only had liability coverage. That is why I drove around for months with no passenger window.

Wylie - I don't think Crisp is associated with Kitterman and hasn't been for a long time...

ARKBLOG, what are the chances these might be the hooligans who pillaged your vehicle the (2) and (3) times I remember you suffered such a fate last year?

You are right about we shouldn't have to hide our possessions from view but that is in a perfect world.
But reality is you want to not appear as attractive of a target so that criminals will go somewhere else.
The cost and inconvenience of even a fully covered breaking and entering is not worth the hassle.
Please come live in my neighborhood so you can appear an easier target than me. That could reduce the occurances to me of crime.
Now these scum above sound as if they would have hit your car with ipods visible and then come down and broke into mine and ended up with standard cd player they put in as basic equipment.

Here's a better solution to the problem, get an empty pint bottle of Seagram's 7 or VO (brown glass) and fill it half full with rat poison. Leave it in your glove compartment or center console. You won't have a problem with car break-ins in your neighborhood for very long.

I'm very likely one of the victims of these punks. When I found my truck open this morning and noticed what they took it, was obviously kids or really stupid drug addicts. The stuff they took has almost no value on the street. Fortunately my truck was not locked. The stuff they did take will cost about $950.00 to replace. Not a real big deal as insurance will cover $850.00 of it.
Here is my real concern. Last night my dog was growling and I came very close to getting out of bed to see what she was upset about. Had I noticed these punks in my driveway messing with my truck I would not have hesitated spaying them with a few loads of lead shot. I guess brats like these don't care or are unaware of the risks in tearing into people's property.
Actually I have met the Kitterman boy's mother at my business. It was some time ago and she elected to not use our service because she was concerned we would not be around to deliver services for which she would paid us. I find it mighty ironic she was worried about my business ripping her off and now her son, in all likelihood, just ripped me off. I have been in business for 10 years and I can honestly say his mom is among a very elite group of about 5 customers (out of 6,000+ great ones) who I noted as sincere snooty skum.
Well it looks like the universe does take care of people like these.
