Football coaching is better, but ...

... This week's Times has a roundup of the pay of top college officials at public four-year schools around the state. The Higher Education Department is completing a more extensive survey this week.

Check it out. The top earners make in the neighborhood of a good Div. I offensive coordinator. There are pay enhancements from private cars, deferred compensation and various perks all around.

Note: The article includes enrollment figures, provided by the state Department of Higher Education from fall 2007, the most recent count it had available. The colleges claim higher enrollments than those listed by the department, significantly higher in several cases. The reason is that Higher Ed compiles a number intended to represent the equivalent of full-time students. Many more students may be in campus carrying small course loads and the universities count those students in overall numbers.
