LR: affirmative action report

Will web wonders never cease.

A reader shipped along to me a city of Little Rock spreadsheet compiling the racial and sexual composition of city boards and commissions.

Bottom line: Overwhelmingly white and male. Whiter than maler.

The count is 48 blacks and 215 whites and a smattering of other and 87 women and 176 men and a few men and women of other racial identities.

Study and report.

Sounds like the women need to get off their butts and get involved. All you got to do is ask and somebody will appoint you if you're qualified. They beg people to be on these commissions and committees.

"Sounds like the women need to get off their butts and get involved. All you got to do is ask and somebody will appoint you if you're qualified. They beg people to be on these commissions and committees."

Geez. I'm white. I'm male. I STILL can't get appointed to any of these commissions. I guess I don't kiss the right butts.

Oh, wait. I don't kiss anybody's butt. Maybe that's why all of my applications for appointment get the "Thank you for your application for appointment to the ________ Commission of the City of Little Rock."

Oh, and I don't make enough $$$ to be considered "worthy" enough either. I wish that "study" had an average income column for each of the commissioners.

Arky.

If it's a board or commission with any clout at all, you got that right...it is tied to campaign donors or folks with other financial clout. No different from Washington DC or any other political center. If it is an appointment to the Advisory Board for Cosmetology , Construction Trenching & Astrology, a Diversity appointment might be considered

Let's see. Afro-Americans make up about 13 % of the state's population and they have about a 22 % representation on LR boards? So, what's the beef? Is the population ration higher than 13 % in LR? I don't know....just asking.

2000 Cenus says LR is 40.4% black

i'll see if i can find more current stats.

And Dean K said "They have not done a damn thing wrong", after the Advertising and Promotions Comission pissed away millions of the citizen's of Little Rock hard earned dollars. Thats what we are talking about.

Last I read Little rock was about 45% black.

I know more than 33% of LR residents are female.

This list reflects priorities of the community in some ways...note the vacancies on the commission for children and families...the disabilities commission...the make up of the city's own racial and cultural diversity commission...sad.

52.9% female from same source as above

Jesus Christ. You babies would bitch if you got hung with a new rope.

All that list shows is there are too many people on the payroll no matter what color or sex they are.

I would be more interested in seeing a report of those that have applied for the positions. There are quite a few openings. Instead of complaining, get involved!
