TGIF
Your turn.
(Why do those initials always make me think of Jay Sims in a red-and-white striped rugby shirt, warmish draft beer, burgers built on English muffins and, around midnight and a goodly number of mugs into the evening, "Dueling Banjos"? We were going to be young forever. You had to be there, I guess.)

Comments
TGIF reminds me of Dallas, the insurance company where I worked, 5:30 on Friday and everyone who was single heading for TGIF's and Cognac and Amaretta.

Geology professor Jay recently underwent a major orthopedic procedure that HIPAA rules probably preclude revealing, but he's doing OK.

SPEAKING OF FRIDAY NIGHTS AND A GOODLY NUMBER OF MUGS:
Two men were sitting next to each other at Murphy's Pub. After awhile, one guy looks at the other and says, "I can't help but think, from listening to you, that you're from Ireland ."
The other guy responds proudly, "Yes, I am!"
The first guy says, "So am I! And where about from Ireland might you be?"
The other guy answers, "I'm from Dublin , I am."
The first guy responds, "So am I!"
"Mother Mary and begora. And what street did you live on in Dublin ?"
The other guy says, "A lovely little area it was. I lived on McCleary Street in the old central part of town."
The first guy says, "Faith, and it's a small world. So did I! So did I! And to what school would you have been going?"
The other guy answers, "Well now, I went to St. Mary's, of course."
The first guy gets really excited and says, "And so did I. Tell me, what year did you graduate?"
The other guy answers, "Well, now, let's see. I graduated in 1964."
The first guy exclaims, "The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us! I can hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the same bar tonight. Can you believe it, I graduated from St. Mary's in 1964 my own self!"
About this time, Vicky walks into the bar, sits down and orders a beer.
Brian, the bartender, walks over to Vicky, shaking his head and mutters, "It's going to be a long night tonight."
Vicky asks, "Why do you say that, Brian?"
"The Murphy twins are drunk again."

I remember the beer tent at Ft. Sill at Camp Eagle. The beer was cold and it was coors, the troops were young and the Fifth Dimension played on the Juke Box. It was insanely hot and dry. The canvas covering and the wood floor had an unmistakeable OD smell. We were 20 and thought no one could touch us.

Makes me think of Donna Summer and how a gay friend came by the barn where I was living at the time and said I had to hear this bootleg single that looked like an LP (if yer young, look it up). It was this chick named Donna Summer singing Love to Love Ya Baby...and it went on for like 23 minutes. I was humping the air by the time it was over. Lord have mercy....never heard anything so sexy in my life.
Though I don't remember I'm sure my dying brain tumor wife got it that night.....pure sex music has that effect on guys in their early 20s. Next came the movie TGIF on the tail-end of the Disco era and then the lighted dance floor floors went away and it was serious bidness 24-7. Ahhh those were the days! Could someone please pass me the dinosaur kibble?
Ya know the real circle of life isn't a Disney movie with dancing lions and elephants, what I sit around and cry over is the same thing my daddy did and his daddy and his daddy before that. Life is an arc, and no truer words were ever written than when John Cougar Mellencamp wrote about "life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone" you have a shelf life.....don't waste it.
I just returned from my Friday night libations and I'm happy to report there were lots of sleek young things taking up where I left off years ago. I just want to grab them......ok......and the 2nd reason I'd want to grab them is to tell them to party down hard and long because that part of your life has a limited time frame. Enjoy being young and good looking and having every option on the table, because it doesn't last.
And as pissed off as I am about it.....it's the way it supposed to work...that damn damn circle of life. Don't waste a moment when you're young, cause you gotta make rest home memories, you got to run like the wind before your winded days come on. You are cuter than you think, you can run faster and leap higher, quit dumping on yourself because life will be more than happy to dump on you down the road. So get jiggy and if yer young and reading this and it's not 2 am......get yer ass out of the apartment and go do something! You'll have plenty of time to sit at home with yer warm milk later on. Go! Do it! Scat! (psst...Donna Summer.....call me)

There are other reasons to Thank God this Friday. Tomorrow is my Mother's 99th Birthday.
She still lives in her own home, does volunteer work at the church one day a week and was safely driving until her license expired last July 26th and we convinced her it was time and that we could provide her with transportation.
My family and I have been very blessed.

That is wonderful, Doc....one of my aunts made 99 years, taught a SS class for 75 yrs,
dressed up, made up, every hair in place, every day of her life to the end....most important,
her mind was still sharp as a tack and, she drove....only to church and the bank, in
Smackover, Ark.-----which is not too dangerous......what do they have?? 150 people???
Forgive me Smackover.

Happy 99th Mama Doc...
Sadly, she may live to see another 1929.
Two more banks went under today. (clicky)
First Heritage of Newport Beach, California, had three branches with customers comprised mostly of corporations, while First National of Reno, Nevada, had 25 branches.

DBI,
I like what Bob Dylan says better:
Summer days and summer nights are gone
Summer days and summer nights are gone
I know a place where there's still something going on
