They like us, etc.
Movies in the Park drew 1,800 to "Willie Wonka" last night and the crowd apparently was of interest to some visitors expected from Jackson, Miss. They hope to find strategies in Little Rock to copy to spur redevelopment efforts in their downtown.

Just like Little Rock got the idea from Conway's Silver Moon Cinema. You're welcome, Little Rock.

Jackson will need more than a former US President to save it.

as a guy from jackson, i'd love to see it happen. geography isn't on their side, tho. the pearl river running near downtown is a muddy mess. i don't think there's a rock in that soil over there. it's all mud and yazoo clay. any sort of riverfront type development is just doomed, i'm afraid. downtown, on the other hand, has loads of rad buildings. would be great to see them occupied, fixed up sharp. and i cannot believe they're finally redeveloping the king edward. i thought they'd given up on that idea 20 years ago. more power to 'em!

That article was just a series of bullet points.
As for Jackson taking inspiration from LR: pretty cool.

In the splendor of my youth, I spent a lot of time in Jackson, a lovely young Ole Miss lass being the draw. It was a happening town back then. Nice restaurants and great clubs, and a good crop of fun-loving young people. The best looking and by far the best dressed girls in the South poured out of the office building and onto Capitol Avenue every day at noon. Oh, man, you'd have to have been there! Fast Forward to 2008: Spent a night in old Jackson town recently; toured the Capitol, strolled around the Governor's Mansion, took in their outstanding art museum. Very impressive. But bustling, modern-day Jackson has moved up north on I-55. Downtown is fairly depressing these days, and all those pretty girls on Capitol? Gone with the wind, I fear. Pretty little grandmothers by now, I'm guessin', most of 'em, anyway. Viva Jackson!

Jackson, Mississippi's answer is in one of Max's other posts. Jackson leaders (same perverted vision as our 'leaders'?) need to call Bass Pro and offer them tens of millions in tax breaks, more tens of millions in goofy and free infrastructure (how many ways can we screw up existing traffic patterns, let me count the ways), and lo and behold Jackson will have arrived.
Jackson will also need to call Commodore Pat Hays for tips since Hays is an expert on how to bankrupt a city's budget by giving away such treats to every corporate entity that passes through town.

commodore hays is nothing compared to jackson's mayor melton. this guy is a straight up modern day wild west sheriff type. he's been known to strap on a bullet proof vest and patrol the hood himself, gun on, setting up roadblocks and going on drug raids of questionable legality. wild shit. forgive me for being captain obvious here, but it's a different world across the river. this ain't the south. there is the south.
