College daze

Fuel-sipping motor scooters apparently are all the rage at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. So much so that the campus is cracking down on permitting and parking.

Three stores have popped up in what used to be automotive garages in Chickenopolis.

My friend in Fayetteville tried to open an electric sidewalk scooter business. He did it
properly, asking about permits, tax numbers and was told (state of Ark) that to have a serviceable
product store he had to maintain an inventory of repair and service parts.

I wonder how many new motor scooter stores are stocking parts, filters, etc. ?
And there's a huge online business in imported scooters too.

Did anyone catch Channel 7's piece last evening on the young man who has been denied admission to Arkansas Tech? He's the young fellow from Dover who was acquitted of the Nona Dirksmeyer murder last year.

It seems as if the "powers that be" at Tech have deemed his possible matriculation as "disruptive" to the scholary pursuits of the other matriculants there.

Hmmm? Has Dr. Brown overstepped his bounds again?

Makes you wonder what else being found "not guilty" makes you guilty of.

Cracking down on permits? What sort of permission for transportation not much larger that the student themselves is needed here? If any choice needs to be made, they ought to deny auto permits in order to make way fro increased numbers of scooters.

We are in an energy shift.... a financial crisis ... hell, let the kids park in the middle of the football field if they need! Line up electrical outlets at the fifty yard line for recharging electric scooters too. Would serve a far better purpose and demonstrate an appreciation for thinking students who give a damn.

Seriously, put all scooter parking as close to buildig doors as possible.. treat thinking people who act thoughtfully to as much energy smart green VIP parking as humanly possible.

Ban SUV's not scooters.

I work for one of Arkansas's largest chldren's hospitals and to my knowledge we have a total of two designated parking spaces for two motorcycles...one block away from the main building. Last weekend when I came out from work to there was a row of us motorcyclist parked in a very handy spot not too far from the main building...we all had letters on our bikes telling us where to go park. I am attending UALR this fall and am curious if they have any designated motorcycle parking spots. I personally don't like to see scooters on the sidewalk. And this is mean of me, but as fat as the average entering freshman college student is, they sure don't need to be allowed to ride scooters around campus. It is pretty bad when a 39 year old man is in better shape than most of the 18 year olds on campus.

I can see some things never change, especially with the UofA campus police and parking. Right Louie?

Soon the UAF parking people will figure out how to charge for scooter parking and then all will be right with the world.

If you read the article John you will see that they have. It's called a permit.
