I don't believe in picking people for anything because of their race or sex. I think both are applicable in reference to both. I know that the advent of political correctness has made something that once would have been unacceptable acceptable. It is unfortunate. We need to be selecting people because of merit and not demographic considerations. We all will eventually pay for this in both cases.

Well, out here in the wild woods of Western Little Rock, I see Sarah Palin types all day long. She does represent a large population of women in America. You should also think of what Sarah Palin is to men...I heard one Republican official comment on local news channel this afternoon that Palin was a "man's woman". He was impressed that she went moose hunting. The Republican Party was pretty slick here...they chose Palin because she comes off as a "real woman". She likes to hunt, she's had some kids, and she supposedly does not take any crap. What red-blooded Republican male is going to resist voting for that? What Republican female is going to be ashamed to vote for her? I mean they see this woman in their social circle in the wild woods of West Little Rock every day.

Clarence Thomas thankfully was not the first black to serve on the United States Supreme Court. The question I have about him is whether he is respected in the black community? I can't answer that question since I'm not a member of that community. Sarah Palin could become the first woman President of the US by succession. Someone with her credentials is not whom I would have envisioned as the first woman President, or as being President under any circumstances. I would ask the same question about her: Is she respected in the female community? Again, I'm not a member of that community, so I don't know the answer. I do know one thing. I'll not be voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin in November-they scare the s**t out of me, just like Clarence Thomas being on the US Supreme Court for life does!

I just hope McCain lives through his term.

I don't think the black community was fooled by Clarence Thomas. African-Americans know who helps their interests and who doesn't.

Likewise American women will not be fooled by Gov Palin. Will Palin support family leave? Equal pay for the same work? A majority of American women support Pro Choice, which means the right to save her own life and care for her other children should the need arise when they're pregnant.
I have read that Gov Palin does not support a woman's right to an abortion even if it means saving the life of the mother. Pretty barbaric.

Palin was a brilliant pick by McCain. He completely nullified the wow factor of Obama's race, she can discuss Obama's unsavory ties where any other Repuke was locked out, and then there's the women issue. And did anyone else notice it took the campaign 2 hours to respond and they did so with criticism of her experience, whoever came up with that press release should be packing his bags right now.

The polls are already tied, and there is a large block of Hillary supporters who are still mightily pissed. They consider themselves betrayed and are leaving the Dems. Obama's base is the 'youth' vote, how many times in the past have candidates based their campaign on support from young people and how many times has it worked? I can't think of a single one. But, the middle aged women vote like clockwork.

I heard some Dem strategist tonight saying that women wouldn't be swayed by Palin because of her abortion stance. The Dems must believe that talking point since they keep repeating it, but it's ludicrous. The Repukes had the White House, both sides of Congress & the majority of the Supremes for 6 years and they didn't move anything to restrict abortion. For 2 reasons:
1. Politics - they know that a large majority of the public favors the status quo.
2. Pure cynicism - they know that folks like our own chasv will support anything as long as they keep promising to outlaw abortion. And chasv, bless his heart, will continue to be fooled by this cynicism.

If McSame had picked Hillary to be his VP it wouldn't have garnered my vote. The policies/beliefs of him and his mentor, Monkeyboy, are so ANTI-woman that no female window dressing is going to change that reality. Plus if Hillary accepted such a position it would demonstrate that she wasn't the person I thought she was and that she was shallow, stupid and sexist.

I see two strategies here...

One, its an act of noting to lose everything to gain from a D List Republican Gov. If McSame loses, Ms Palin will mush back up to Alaska with her 15 seconds of fame and tell her Grandchildren, "Yes, I was once a VP Candidate". And if too many skeletons are discovered, or if the polls turn really sour Team McSame can always pull out their "real" choice (white male, neo-con) in her place.

Second, its an act of desperation and appealing to the testosterone-fueled voters on the GOP. "Oh, She's a Hottie and even hunts!", an average voter from Cabot or Southaven MS would say without realizing she has less experience than a typical Arkansas small-town mayor.

And all along, I thought Janet Huckabee was the only "man's woman". Will Palin wear camoflage at the convention to prove it?

She will help with the disenchanted conservatives---most of them---and with the evangelicals. I just don't see much bounce with the PUMAs. When November rolls around they will either vote for obama or stay at home. Most conservatives will probably vote but a few will stay at home---like me.
