Western women have careers. Other women are having babies. What do you think the significance of this is in terms of whether western civilization survives?

[] Uses racial and gender slurs.

[] "Cuts & Runs" when absolutely painted into a corner by irrefutable fact/reason; has NEVER been wrong.

[] Repeatedly invokes "morality and such" while simultaneously playing the role of class bully or the annoying little puke who thinks it's funny to snap the 12-year old girls' bra strap.

[] Even while understanding the 'often-profane' bent of the common space, launches crude, demeaning attacks often directed at individuals.

[] Seldom produces facts or attribution when challenged; heavy on misuse of Biblical/"religious" references and examples.

[] INTENTIONALLY FLOUTS THE MINIMAL PROTOCOLS OF THE FIERCELY FREE-SPEECH "STYLEBOOK."

[] Rejects all requests out-of-hand, including those to go where she/he is welcome.

I think Obama took another major step toward losing today.

On another subject- now that Obama has picked Biden to be his running mate with one early poll indicating that Biden's addition may give the ticket a very slight boost (poll: 13% more likely to vote for Obama/Biden, 10% less likely and 75% no difference), who can McCain possibly pick as his VP that won't hurt his chances in November? One or more analysts said Biden was the best of a so-so lot of potential running mates given their plusses and minuses.

McCain has to pick from a much worse bunch. Any way he goes he will alienate part of his base.

What is it they say? First, do no harm? No way McCain can do that with his VP pick.

Can you refute the fact that the west is not replacing itself? The replacement rate is 2.1 children and we are below that and dropping. Some parts of Europe are significantly below that rate. Do you honestly think that it will be insignificant if the rest of the non western world eventually has a lot more people than we do? You are cavalier now but you won't be when westerners become a very low minority. You might find that you no longer have the nice homes, plenty of food to eat, no jobs, no shelter, etc. You get the picture. Assuming the margin of error for that unsourced poll is at least 3%, the poll would suggest that Biden's pick gave zero boost to Obama. Obama needed a huge boost from his pick which he would have gotten from Hillary. Obama's not picking up any more Clinton Democrats with Biden and after the Republicans get through with Biden's pointing out Obama's inexperiecne, it will most certainly be a negative.

Unless McCain self-destructs between now and November, America will have another Republican president and Democratic Congress. Those who fell for Obama's "charisma" will be to blame too.

I have an Iranian living across the street, he's 40 something. Came here as a teenager.
Does well, loves him the usual American stuff, large TV, golf, Cadillac, Jack Russell terrier,
retirement account, nice home, cookouts on the deck. I never saw him praying on his
knees to the East or West or wherever. But he may. Like like him just fine. Great neighbor.

Up the street a few houses are messuicuns. Hernandez and his family of four. Their deck is
lined with pots of peppers. They lov them American Suvs and Wal mart clothes. He works
as supervisor for the electric company. His two daughters speak excellent English. One is
an honor student.

Springdale's largest current philanthropist is a Muslim. Fayaar has donated land for schools and
helped build a Jewish Tabernacle at no profit margin. He employs many Caucasians. Pays well.
He loves American business just like the Asians who make this their home and open stores, send
their children to public schools.

I doubt any of the above mentioned folks are in a secret conspiracy to run you off, take over the
nation. Of course I must admit I haven't wire-tapped their phones to check for a large secret anti-American conspiracy. Leave that to Homeland Security. But I like my foreign neighbors.

I was celebrating last night...celebrating my wondrous hubby running a snake out of our garage and a lizard (which I love...been a friend to my garden for some time) out of my kitchen. Best we can figure the snake run the lizard in the kitchen door when I went outside. I love critters, in theory, not in my house. (Except the damn mosquitos...which have descended like a plague--worst EVER.) Anyway, both gave me a near heart attack. No one expects a lizard in the middle of their kitchen. And, the 10-foot-long killer, hissing, devil snake was ready to attack like a Sci Fi movie...thus justifying my insanity.

I love your neighbor post, eLwood. Pretty much sums it up for me...once you filter out the McSames/Bush families/the insane/the Saddams/the Osamas/etc., you get folk just like us. Folks of every color/religion who love their children/families, want food on the table/roof over their heads and just want to be left in peace. My best friend is Costa Rican, my neighbors are several colors and I grew up around white trash who would send Osama scurrying. What I really don't understand, however, is how so many self-proclaimed religious folk think their set of genes is the one God was referencing with all that love your neighbor/brother's keeper stuff. I'm kind of partial to the Top Ten list (otherwise known as the Ten Commandments); and I've yet to find any caveats about only applying them to those who look just like you.

It didn't take many history courses to learn that our government routinely lies to us...always has. Aaaah, zelda. I sat on the porch of our cabin, located on a bluff overlooking the Ouachita River, and nary a mosquito. They never bother us. One of the hidden secrets of our area.....

Lucky you, cato! When I moved to Conway I thought it was a mosquito-free zone 'cause the mosquitos in Bald Knob/Augusta kept people indoors. Now I know Conway isn't that bad, or, rather, wasn't that bad. This is horrid, the worst ever. Of course, we have an abandoned house next door (in the middle of expensive west Conway), been that way for at least 6-7 months. And it has an abandoned pool. (Yes, it's been turned in and yes we've done what we could safely do.) Seems abandoned houses across the country have created prime mosquito breeding...and outbreaks of west nile, so CNN reports. Oh yeah...neighbor's dog has heart worms, too.

I, too, didn't know such a place existed in Arkansas.

zelda, I think a quart of your cheapest motor oil poured in the pool next door will solve the problems there. Here in Fort Mosquito, entertaining outside in the summer is only for the S/M crowd. I guess having the Arkansas River run around 3 sides of the Fort is the cause of our mosquito problem.

I hear the mosquito spraying truck go by my house at night, but is that sorta like the tooth fairy? Is there any proof that spraying the neighborhood via moving city truck actually kills anything?
