Palin's problems

The blogs are beginning to hum with a story that claims to demonstrate the shaky judgment of McCain's recent pick for VP, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

It seems that back in April, Palin -- then 7 1/2 months pregnant with her fifth child -- began leaking amniotic fluid and having contractions while attending an energy conference in Dallas, Tex. Instead of heading to the nearest hospital, Palin instead gave her speech to the assembly and then boarded an eight-hour flight to Anchorage (a flight that included making a connecting flight in Seattle). Once in Anchorage, she bypassed some of Alaska's largest hospitals and had her husband drive her almost an hour to Mat-Su Valley Regional Medical Center near her home of Wasilla, where son Trig was born.

Her reason for risking her baby's health by flying home to Alaska instead of giving birth at a Dallas-area hospital?  "You can't have a fish picker from Texas," her husband Todd Palin told the Anchorage Daily News.

In case you're still having a hard time understanding Palin's thought process on all this, someone has posted this handy flow chart.

Comments

Your Palin derangement syndrom is showing wackjobs.

She was clearly under the care and advice of her doctor.

Just what the hell is it you are saying with this garbage ? That she purposefully risked dangering her child to make a speech?

You have lost it. Didnt you get the memo your messiah says you shouldnt be attacking Palin or her family.

I agree with Citizens Journal. This whole scenario is absurd.

What alternative can explain? Please.

Has anyone asked Gov. Palin about her disdain for all things Texan?

I just got home from one of my many fabulous social occasions and found THIS in my inbox.

"I guess you're not plugged into the internet today. It's going
absolutely wild over Sarah Palin may not be that child's mother, but,
rather, her grandmother. Extreme doubts that she was pregnant as she
claimed, but never showed, and that it's very doubtful that she got on
plane after her water broke, flew for 8 hours, with layover in Seattle,
then flew on to Alaska, then was driven to that tiny town, where she had
been mayor, that has no adequate hospital or medical care, or even her
OB-GYN, to give birth. On the other hand, her eldest daughter is
showing bulge in pictures of about the same time, was removed from
school and disappeared from sight for 5 months with story that she had
mono. Her classmates are saying they knew she looked and actually was
pregnant.

Oh, yeah, and the far-right nutter fundy mental cases are also
complaining that they don't like working mothers, especially those with
young children, including an infant with Downs.

It's going to be an interesting election season. RNC cancelling Monday
convention, Ron Paul is going ahead with his alternate convention, and,
trying to look useful, McCain and Palin are going to New Orleans to
bring hot water to babies. I wish I were imaginative enough to make
this up."

As Kathy Griffin likes to say, "Of course, it's only a rumor but that's good enough for me."

This has become the most sexist blog I read. It's like you've all decided that if Hillary can't be on a ticket any other woman must be torn down.

I just down know what to say to you parroting this absurd rumor. I never thought the Times was a "tabloid" as Gov. Huckabee said, but you're almost there.

Actually CJ, you ol' react-job, they're not! They believe the mother of month and a half premature Trig was under a Doctor's care in Wasilla and the Sarah Palin did not risk infection as Dr. Gregg suggested.

". . . a Sacramento, Calif., obstetrician who is active in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said when a pregnant woman's water breaks, she should go right to the hospital because of the risk of infection. That's true even if the amniotic fluid simply leaks out, said Dr. Laurie Gregg . . ."

Just read the links and you will see that they are not saying she risked endangering Trig to make a speech.

This is the best you can do against Palin? How pathetic. This is nit picking at the worst. Can you imagine a conservative bringing up something like this? How sad on your part that this is the best you can do. This is from someone who isn't voting for this ticket.

Prouster:

Huh?

Yes, we can, again and again and again and again . . . . Click and watch

"Oh, yeah, and the far-right nutter fundy mental cases are also
complaining that they don't like working mothers, especially those with
young children, including an infant with Downs."

Do tell?
Anyone have links of the rightwing nut cases being upset about Palin.
I thought all those nutters thought she was peachy keen seeing as how she is anti-choice, anti-Birth control and thinks the creation myth of one religion should be taught as science.

"Palin's problems
The blogs are beginning to hum with a story that claims to demonstrate the shaky judgment of McCain's recent pick for VP, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin." -Arkansas Times Post

Oh so this blog was not suggesting that she was endangering her childs life huh? Then what are they peddling? That absurd rumor that she wasn't pregnant? That kos rumor that she is Trigs granmother?

The Times is engaging in discusting slimeball politics here, how "hope and changey" is that? They should apologize for this or risk further discrediting themselves as a truley leftist rag.

Well I don't know of any woman who would leak from Texas to Po-Dunk Alaska on several planes through several stops.. and still be worthy of being deemed a pro life individual... it was reckless at best. Had she had a miscarriage or whatever it's called when one refuses to do the right thing... charges of manslaughter could have been made. She was lucky ..the child more so. It was stupid no matter how you slice it.. makes one wonder whether or not she secretly wanted to loose that Downs baby.

This woman needs to be psychologically evaluated for being a potential danger to a child.. not a candidate for pro life VP of the USA.

Maxie, Im not even going to read this stuff. A woman that has given birth to five babies.
Did I say five Babies, knows alot more on the subject than yourself and most of the pimple faced
left wing bloggers that you quote.

I doubt if the FBI will ever investigate this scandal. But, I bet they cant wait to sink their teeth into the curious relationship between a felon, convicted for political corruption, and Obambi.

Personally, since their batting score is pretty damn high at present I'm waiting for the National Inquirer's version. That is, after they finish the story on the aliens that impregnated Hillary Clinton.

.

Boy, Palin must be making people nervous if you are stretching to post stuff like this. First the internet hums that it's actually her daughters child and now it's her child but she should not have been on an airplane.

A couple of days ago I didn't understand what McCain was doing with this...but I have to tell you....there is a certain logic in his choice.

Can one of you Hillcrest liberal nut jobs please explain to me why a woman on the Democratic ticket would have been historic but a woman on the GOP ticket is desperation?

Also....my guess here......watch the country warm up to this woman. Check back here in 14 days. Stick around for the debate where Biden looks old and angry. The visual of her beside Biden is not a bad thing at all for President McCain.

Have you all seen the Zogby numbers today that indicate she stopped Obama's bounce cold coming out of Denver. Plus....a crisis like Gustav means people will take another look at Obama's youth.

Last week I did not understand what McCain was doing....but after a couple of days seeing Democrats get into pretzel logic mode....I am starting to see this may have been brilliant.

I'm not voting for her or McCain but she obviously has you lefties and the members of the ARKBLOG on the run. You remind me of a chicken with its head cut off. I wouldn't have picked her but the more I read this blog the more I am convinced it was a very smart move. You guys really are scared.

Damn...why didn't someone tell me, yrs ago, I could just say, *wait awhile you little yard
monkey, mama has other things to do, I'll let you come out when I'm good n ready?*
I gave birth 4 times, water broke once at home....frantic trip to hosp,,,baby wants to
greet the world, no matter how I crossed my legs, toes, eyes, squeezed those vag muscles....
baby gonna win that battle.
Her story doesn't hold water........'scuse the pun.

Maybe I'm not expert enough for you folks -- only two young'uns for this household -- but as far as I'm concerned, Sarah Palin's decision to fly to Alaska after her amniotic fluid started leaking was flat out stupid. Once in Alaska, she bypassed major medical centers and ob/gyns to have her premature baby delivered in a small town hospital by a family practitioner.
Folks, this is not smart, anyway you look at it. Whether or not Palin was at risk, the baby was. I'm amazed that Palin's doctor didn't transfer her to a larger hospital where they had adequate medical facilities for premature babies.
Then again, you have to wonder about a seven and a half month baby weighing in at six pounds, two ounces. I wonder how much Palin's older children weighed at birth. I also wonder why (and how) she kept her pregnancy secret for seven months.
I might just have to start reading the National Enquirer.

Yeah, Stranglelove, they are scared and they should be. There is a dark vibe over the dealings of the Republican party that is hard for me to express. Something off and not quite right.

Seems to me this is old politics at work....where's the "Change?" As soon as a VP is elected the apposing party typically starts launching negative information. Palin was something unexpected...took everyone by surprise, and absolutely must have Obama's camp going bannanas trying to dig something up. So this is the best so far? I guess I'm more concerned about the fact that Clinton ...Bill and Hillary...were so opposed to Obama running the country....now he's the best man for the job? No explanation as to why they were wrong? How about the fact that Biden publicly announced he would be honored to run on a ticket with McCain and how perfect he would be for the job of president? Suddenly Biden believes he is not the man for the Job and has bad judgement? I guess we are all smart enough to know that both sides will put on their fake faces for an election....we must not forget the actions of these candidates before they were selected by their party. This story catches peoples attention, but there seems to be no solid confirmed facts (based on how may different angles I've heard on this)...almost sounds like a conspiracy theory or something out of the inquirer. Personaly my biggest concern is the fact that Obama refused to wear the United States Flag Pin on his Lapel like all other Senators do, and he also refused to say the pledge of Aligence.....until he was in the running as a presidential candidate. Can we put the trust of our country into the hands of someone that unpatriotic? If anything, the president is the representing face of america and should be just as, if not more, patriotic than the average person. Also the idea that he is against taking the eartags off bills passing through congress just screams corruption. No eartags = no mask. We will be able to see how every representative votes on every individual issue....no excuses. I'm a guy, so this isn't a feminist thing, maybe Palin would be a good change.....Obama and Biden are as typical a politician as any other politician we've ever had run...McCain would also fall into this category......Palin would not.

I must have missed it in the beginning which is way too long in web land...one day makes a big difference....if others missed it I found
the Daily kos story of premies and daughters...clik name.

.

Perhaps the rumor is true, and she didn't leak and put the baby at risk.

Brie Vandekamp pretended to have her daughter's baby on Desparate Housewives. LOL

Brie is a Republican too, and probably more ready to be President as Palin.

But seriously, Palin is not worthy of being nominated for VP. It's an insult to voter's intelligence.

DONT REMEMBER SEEING ANYWHERE IN ANY PAPER OR NEWSCAST WHERE GOD DIED AND LEFT YOU BOZOS IN CHARGE. GOOD GRIEF.. WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM.. WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF , ALL YOU LEFT COAST DUMBOS. Darlings, my DARLINGS! Where WERE all of you when the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth were smearing Kerry's military record with lies and rumors?

Oh. Right.

You were nowhere.

But now, NOW, my darlings, when eLwood and SO many others on the internets are citing actual FACTS and photos and links and details (you DO remember facts and photos and links and details, don't you?) you take aim at the messengers but not the MESSAGE?

Isn't that special.

So, of course, I provide you with an ADDITIONAL link and photos for your consideration.

I mean, it's really hard to "make up" all these online sources and details and photos in just two days, my darlings.

Whilst it takes a loving and "values loving" Republican mother to conceal her high school daughter's pregnancy by claiming it as her own and blaming her daughter's disappearance as a nine-month case of mono, it's also stupid with a capital D.

For DUMB.

Enjoy.

SORRY NORMAL.. BACK TO THE BATES MOTEL FOR YOUR REHAB.

Also, a fellow I've known online for years and would take his word about Alaska politics as much as I would take eLwood's word about NWA politics. Anyway, he thinks the "it's really the daughters baby" false rumors were started last year by fellow AK republicans.

Robert Dillon pointed out the growing insidiousness in left blogs, grasping at anything they can find, to slime a person and family with a rumor, that, remarkably enough, probably started late last winter, in far right Alaska GOP circles. Yet Dillon was careless in attributing the DailyKos story to Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, which is untrue. The story was penned by a DailyKos diarist, named ArcXIX.

What in the hell is a mother who just gave birth to a baby (with downs syndrome or not) doing running for VP of the US? I'm a damn liberal but even I can't go along with that.

Click me to read an interesting exclusive interview with Neuro-Linguistic Programming expert Dr. Winona Tharpe, of Yale, on the Palin family dynamics.

One is humbled to be first with this.

Norma, You and the others peddling this crap are completely off the reservation. Its funny how you stoop to these completely fabricated conspiracy theories when you cant find any dirt on someone. Im more convinced than ever He made the right choice for VP. You guys are completely nuts.

And this magazine and the wackjobs running it have just spent the last bit of whatever credibility they had. Please adjust your tinfoil hats.

Of course, relying on her own doctor's advise shows poor judgment. Right? How about the judgment of sitting in the church of a racist for 20years? That's good judgment I guess. And being friends with a terrorist no matter when the deed was done is good judgment too I suppose? What a crock of crap.

I'd venture that a 44yo woman with four children, under the care of a doctor (who knows intimently the details of her pregnancy), has an acute understanding of her body and the difficulties that may arise in childbirth.

Perhaps some would be happier if she had just taken a detour to the nearest Planned Parenthood and "taken care" of the "problem" altogether no?

Don't even get me started on what a freaking joke it is to suggest that this is actually her grandson, you kos kids will swallow anything.

Its amazing how quickly you liberals will go from "defenders of women" to "destroy the harpie" what hypocrits you are. Its one thing to disagree with someones political views but this........this is truely discusting.

Not to "Hope and Changey" if you ask me.

Today's column by Eric Schmeltzer on HoffPo:

++++++++++++++++++++++

Did they even do anything CLOSE to vetting Sarah Palin?

The other day, I wrote about how Sarah Palin was nothing more than a two-bit hack, given the investigation into her abuse of power as Governor, firing the Public Safety Commissioner when he wouldn't fire her ex-brother-in-law, lied about pressuring the guy to do so, and then showed keen judgment by replacing him with someone who had to resign in two weeks because of sexual harassment problems.

Seems that Palin honed this skill back as Mayor of Wasilla, where she was nearly recalled, for firing the Police Chief and Library Director for not supporting her in her 1996 race for Mayor.

Yes, that's right. Hack n' Sack Sarah didn't even try to hide it. She didn't say the Police Chief and Library Director were doing a bad job. No, she fired them for "not fully supporting her efforts to govern" (i.e., not endorsing her for Mayor).

Seriously, though, we're coming off eight years of cronyism and inept leadership in the White House, which led to everything from Heck Of a Job Brownie to the US Attorney Firing Scandal. Sarah Palin's emerging record as Mayor of Wasilla and as Governor are almost a complete mirror of that (though closer to the Mayberry scale than leader of the free world).

But it is a glimpse into the type of "leader" she is. An inept hack, in the George W. Bush mold, who was so brazen with the little power she was given that she faced citizens trying to remove her from office. Did John McCain even ask her about this, the one time he talked to her on the phone before picking her?

If John McCain wanted a woman on the ticket, there were plenty of conservative women to choose from, who have a respectable record as public officials, and who would arguably be ready to be Commander in Chief. That he chose Sarah Palin, who is nothing short of an embarrassment, speaks volumes about the kind of judgment McCain will show as President. For if he's willing to put a nearly-recalled, under-investigation inept hack one heartbeat away from the Presidency, what kind of judgment will he show when choosing Judges and Justices, Secretaries of top departments, and administrators of lead agencies?

This isn't putting Country First. It's putting Political PR first (and not even good PR at that). Sarah Palin as a VP nominee is an affront to the intelligence of every American, and a freakin' embarrassment.

Well done, John McCain. You've shown possibly even worse judgment than George W. Bush, which until now was almost an impossibly high bar to meet.

Norma, that is a great response to these hacks that have become an integral part of the Republican Party. When those guys accuse US of sexism, etc never forget that it was their fellow travelers that puked out the "Obama Is Muslim" and even "Obama Is The Antichrist" whispers on email and right wing talk radio.

Taking a phrase back from the Neo-Confederates: Forget, Hell.

There are so many things wrong with Sarah Palin as someone with a one-in-six-chance of being President, and people are picking out the one thing in her recent history that is guaranteed not to succeed in pointing out what a reckless and irresponsible choice John McCain made in picking her. Sometimes people just amaze me.

Let's break this down:

Maybe she made an odd choice to truck back to Alaska to have this child. So what? No harm was done. The paranoia society has developed about the fragility of pregnant women is a sexist reaction in so many ways. I doesn't bother me a bit.

Maybe she's lying and the child is really her granddaughter. So what? It's her family. If it turned out this is the story, it wouldn't bother me a bit. If it turns out this isn't the story, then people have been sliming her daughter.

Remember when Creepy Old McCain said on national television, "You know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly? Her father is Janet Reno." Let's not sink to the senile old sh*td*ck's level.

Yes, well I think that Sarah Palin is at a distinct disadvantage in regards to experience. She should have followed the hillary approach and wangled being first lady instead of mayor and governor. Then the demos would have praised her as being eminently qualified for anything.

I was not a Hillary supporter, but there was little doubt in my mind that eight years in the Senate representing New York was credible experience for someone running for President. The up-close eight-year view of the Presidency was just lagniappe.

Are some of the different user IDs posting on this thread are coming from the same IP address? It looks like "astroturfing".

Let's see if I can make this simple. The wingnuts on this blog try to draw some parallel between Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. Here's the problem with that....both women have vaginas true, but that is where the comparison stops. One vagina spent 10 years as First Lady of Arkansas, 8 years in the White House and the past 8 years as the junior Senator from New York. The Alaskan vagina entered politics in 1992 as a small town city councilman. Then from 1996 to 2002 she was the mayor of this unknown burg of 8 thousand people. She became Governor in 2006, 20 months ago. Governor of a state with a population about 3 times larger than the city of Little Rock.

See children, one of these things is not like the other thing! Hillary supporters are not goose-steppers, putting out another girl and yelling to follow her just won't work.

I wasn't in Alaska, I am not an OBGYN, I haven't seen a va-jj in months. Time will tell if Sarah Palin endangered her child by flying all over hell and back to avoid having a child in Texas or if her daughter is the real mother of the child. I can wait.

As the father of 2 daughters I can sense how unpleasant it would be if my 16 year old came home pregnant. Mostly the sadness I would feel would be that she just traded in her childhood for motherhood. My point......if Sarah Palin is the grandmother and not the mother....a ploy that has been used a million times, I want nothing to do with Palin for being so creepy as to make up this charade to cover up a pretty common American problem.

Let's review. Just anyone with a vagina isn't a replacement for Hillary Clinton. You're a twisted sicko if you go to such great lengths to cover up your daughter's pregnancy or spend all day flying back to Alaska with human juice flowing down your leg in order to not have your child born in Texas. I hate Texas.......but really!

PS the new line is that Palin's oldest daughter is 5 months pregnant today. If so it's impossible that the little girl could have given birth 4 months ago....after being out of sight for 8 months with mono. Well...gee.......guess that blows our theory!

Except I'm gathering up flower money when the oldest daughter has a miscarriage in the night next month. All problems solved, huh? I swear Republicans are the most twisted evil life on this planet.

How about 143 days in the Senate, is that enough to run for the Presidency?

Arkansas Blogger,

I think the technical term you're looking for is "sock puppetry" and not "astroturfing". They can overlap, but they aren't quite the same thing.

Well, it is good to know that being a first lady is the same as being president, consequently, the person is qualified. Does being first lady of Arkansas count? Then hillary is eminently qualified and so is Laura Bush. Just a reminder, hillary was running for president before she even completed her first term as senator but what does that mean anyway. It was the first lady experience that clenched the deal.

Barack Obama has been in the Senate longer than Bobby Kennedy, clearly the better man than Richard "Experience" Nixon that it isn't funny, so unless you're a "Nixon Now! More Than Ever! Four More Years!" shouter, Obama is experienced enough.

Oh, and DBI, would you kindly consider the wisdom of S'ing TFU?

JAA - Sock puppetry is a form of astroturfing, but it is probably a better descriptor of what appears to be happening.

Bobby Kennedy certainly has something in common with hillary being senator from New York. They both were labeled 'carpet baggers' since they didn't reside in NY until they decided they needed the launching pad for national office. However, unlike hillary he had been a cabinet officer over the department of justice so they diverge at that point.

For a moment I thought that I had erroneously logged onto the National Enquirer instead of the ARKBLOG.

Yes, the term "carpetbagger" is a sure-fire way to get certain knees to jerk (to say nothing of getting certain jerks to arm--I'm thinking of that great scene at the end of +Dr. Strangelove+ where the Old Doctor can't keep from Heiling the future.)

Arkansas Blogger,

I reserve astroturfing for an industrial-scale process of deception, whereas sock puppetry can be the sound of one crank turning. The terms aren't firmly defined yet, though, so your description is just as good as mine.

It is 'fuhrer'. Strangelove knows his Deutsche.

No thanks!

Norma- as always, you totally rock. Keeping us tuned in to the isness of the business- thanks.

Actually, strange, it's führer, or "auf English" fuehrer...just for the record...
