I agree with your take on Olympics thus far. Not worth staying up till 1:00 Am to catch the good stuff except for the swimming.
However, don't the track events begin this coming week?
Only thing good about the volley ball was Venezuelan Women's team and those oh so super-tight, very short outfits.
Meanwhile, over on kos
"New England Journal of Medicine said in a friend-of-the-court brief. The FDA "is in no position" to guarantee drug safety, the brief said." Hallelujah moment when doctors team up with 'trial lawyers'
against Bush's "anthing goes FDA" and says lawsuits are one way to keep drug companies from sending out harmful drugs. Well, duh, we knew that long ago. Same principle applied to unsafe autos.
But the kos/USA Today story is on bluename.

Too many obscure, boring sports. Today I saw badminton (boring, stupid), water polo (boring, stupid) and trampoline ?! Yes,the trampoline competition takes a close second behind curling for dumbass olympic sports. Maybe we can get them to add kickball for the 2012 games.

Max, did you watch coverage other than what is offered on the main NBC feed? At least on USA, MSNBC, CNBC there are sports covered besides Swimming (good), Gymnastics (yawn), Beach Volleyball (should be on the cable feeds). Also, on Dish and DirecTV for the HD customers there are two dedicated channels each for Soccer and Basketball--men's and women's.
NBC got on my s**t list for delaying the broadcast of the Opening Ceremony until US prime time. At least in the True North and Free the CBC carries many of the Olympic events LIVE including the OC. Then again if ABC had carried the Olympics, I'm sure KATV would have pre-empted part of the late night coverage for infomercials.

Not enough prime time coverage of even the post cycling events.
I mean two US contenders win medals.
Kristin Armstrong 24 in the lead wins gold in women's time trials - first time an American has won that event in 24 years.
Levi Leipheimer wins Bronze in Mens Time trials.
Now it seems they will include just about any activity in the olympics. Did you know that the first modern Olympics in Athens 1896 had 9 contested events and cycling was one of them?

On another subject, I got notice in today's mail that the quarterly bank draft for my Arkansas Democrat-Gazette subscription is increasing to $39, up from the current $36. Read later in the day that the nation's newspapers are feeling Detroit's pain: In the first quarter of this year, the auto industry spent $414 million less on newspaper ads than in the first quarter of '07. That's a $1.6 billion loss for the year if the trend holds, and that's just the auto industry hit. Obviously, even tougher times than we've imagined are ahead for the print medium.

"Not enough track and, particularly, field."
You've seen some? Track and field starts next weekend.
ARK. BLOG: Wrong. Shot put and discus and hammer concluded with no prime time mention. Same for woman's 10,000 meters, which was exciting and had a strong American finish. And lots of prelims.

Sobering numbers durango. I often wonder, just question mind you, no accusing,
could the economic numbers coming from Bush number guys be sorta 'puffed up',
if you know what I mean. ?
Wasn't the 11-time U.S. medal winner in Womens swimming, a 42 yr old, a sight to behold
when she took the Silver in 50 m. freestyle!

Dear Jazzy -
This is for you.
First, I appreciate talent. But I've never bought a Shirley Bassey single or album in my life.
"Goldfinger" is impressive and all -- especially since Shirley's ANOTHER lifetime smoker.
Still, who cares?
Well, here's a drop-dead kick-your-ass-out of your seat rendition of "Living Tree" by 70-year old Shirley. Yes, 70.
Turn up the volume. Strap on your seat belt and watch this shizz.
Seriously, Jazzy.
You and I have to schedule some gym time together, sweetheart, and perhaps some discreet surgical enhancements from Dr. English.
Oh, yeah. And vocal lessons if it's not too late.
Which, in my case, I'm afraid it is since I can't hit the high note in "Happy Birthday."
Frankly, I'm kinda pissed. I'm nowhere NEAR 70 and Shirley's kicking it better than I ever have.

The track and field events are just getting started.
I'm going to suffer swimming separation loss next week. I would know those guys and women by name if I ran into them at the airport.
