Counting the days
One of the 11th-hour outrages of the Bush administration has been the effort to allow health care workers to not provide information to women about not only abortion but other medical procedures, thus opening a way to deny help with contraception. Hillary Clinton is co-author of an op-ed on the subject in today's NY Times.
Many circumstances unrelated to reproductive health could also fall under the umbrella of “other medical procedures.” Could physicians object to helping patients whose sexual orientation they find objectionable? Could a receptionist refuse to book an appointment for an H.I.V. test? What about an emergency room doctor who wishes to deny emergency contraception to a rape victim? Or a pharmacist who prefers not to refill a birth control prescription?
The Bush administration argues that the rule is designed to protect a provider’s conscience. But where are the protections for patients?
123 days to go. Seems like an eternity.

I have a lot of trouble with the concept of pharmacist who works for a large chain refusing to sell BCPs or day after pills. The job is the job. If you aren't comfortable with in, you ought to go somewhere else. You have to sell to blacks, gays, and rude people, too. You don't get to pick and choose, no matter how you feel.
I am a little more conflicted if the owner of a small apothecary decides that his store will not sell contraceptives. I guess that should be his right, just in the same sense he might decide not to sell dirty magazines, cigarettes, or booze.

Whatever became of those suits against pharmacists who would take a woman's prescription for the Morning After pill and refuse to fill it and not return the prescription?
Anyone know?

We keep telling women to their face how much we love and cherish them but then pull out the old dagger when their backs are turned. Why don't we have a water-boarding penalty law that protects women (even including McPalin) from all political arm twisting/attacks?
I'm sure I'll have to put the gag bag on again in couple post when some repeditive ding-bat posts that we need to protect some unthinkable glob unless of course carried by some satanic rag-head.

Someone needs to tell pharmacists that they aren't doctors and if they don't want to fill LEGAL prescriptions find another career. Twice this year I've had friends who were given LECTURES by pharmacists over their pain-pill prescriptions. One, a retired police woman who was badly hurt while on duty and has had 17 back operations, gets regular lectures about her medications. I really wish she'd bitch-slap the next one who issues an opinion contrary to her doctors. The other friend had a stroke a few years ago and for the first time in her life is taking small doses of a relatively mild pain pill. She is fighting her own fear of pain pills and has only had her prescription filled twice in a year. The second time her asshole pharmacist gave her a lecture about getting hooked on drugs. She cried...then went home and printed out a complete description of her condition and gave it to the pharmacist. (I wished she would've shoved it up his self-righteous ass.) Both women are the type that doctors have to constantly tell them that they need pain relief to heal and that as long as they're following their PAIN DOCTOR'S instructions/dosages they need to concentrate on healing rather than the assholes around them.
Being ill and trying to heal is hard enough without having to explain yourself to every ignorant medical professional along the way.
Of course, pharmacists should say something if you're taking drugs that don't mix well with each other...or if they think something is hinky with the prescription. But when a reputable pain professional has made the professional assessment about the choice of medicine and the dose, it's not their place to harangue people.
Monkeyboy's gang has been attaching Dark-Ages morality clauses to all kinds of legislation. Much of that African AIDS' money that Monkeyboy likes to tout, has conditions attached that are outright contrary to the cause...stuff like no condoms. I don't even want to contemplate what religious zealot Palin would do if given the chance to insert her nutty religious views into official policy. A country full of pregnant teenagers...and/or moms posing as pregnant.

Yes and abstinence-only sex ed is all that can be taught in public schools using federal aid.
That worked out real nicely for the Palins didn't it.

If a pharmacist wants to question whether it is wise for you to take a prescribed medication, tell the pharmacist to call and discuss it with the doctor.

The Bush Administration reminds me of Nazi Germany. It was not until Germany was completely destroyed that the Second World War in Europe ended. Wish we could hasten the totaly destruction of the Bush Regime before they totally destroy our country.

"Mr. Palin's refusal to testify came after several days in which it seemed increasingly unlikely that the Palins or members of Ms. Palin's administration would cooperate with the inquiry."
Here is some of the CHANGE McCain-Palin will bring to America and it's the last thing we need some more of. Until Cheney-Bush came along I thought it was straight to the pokey for you if you told the courts or Congress to FK Off. They were the first folks I ever heard of who could get away testifying without being put under oath. How un-American can ya get?
And if these people can ignore the law, why are we paying any attention? Go ahead and drive home tonight at about 104 mph and if a cop stops you, tell him you do not recognize speed limits any more because you are a McCain-Palin supporter. And next April 15th, remember to just say NO to taxes.
As I said on another thread.....my wife and her brother think Palin & the State of Alaska refused to give out free rape kits because they contain contraceptive items and/or because most hospitals/ERs will discuss the option of taking one of them Morning After pills to stop conception. That kind of stuff makes wingnuts crazy......crazier I should say.
That kind of thinking and behavior would also explain a 44 year old mother of 4 who happens to be governor of a distant state coming up with a bizarre story and cross country plane flight to cover up the fact that her lovely daughter was giving birth to a bastard child after hot monkey sex with a redneck without the consent of her loving God.
And since so many records have disappeared, it shouldn't be a surprise that the Palins don't want to answer any questions about TrooperGate....they don't want to answer any questions about anything. They just want you to trust them and lay back while they spin lie after lie.
Oh boy! If you thought America sucked under Cheney-Bush....just wait for Palin-McCain!

Vote Republican and get this. Physicians, nurses, orderlies, pharmacists who refuse to treat you because of their religious bigotry.
And it's legal.
And we wonder why the rest of the West is shaking its head at America and slowly turning its back on us.
