In the 'hood
The Coalition of Little Rock Neighborhoods website is worth a look if you're interested in the future of the Lake Maumelle watershed. CLRN has been pushing hard for the brokered watershed management plan produced by months of study and participation of everyone from the water utility to developers to environmentalists. County Judge Buddy Villines has rejected this in favor of a dramatically watered down proposal, much friendlier to major developers.
CLRN leader Kathy Wells says Republican Phil Wyrick, who's opposing Villines this year, has thrown his support to the more comprehensive watershed management plan. That is producing support for Wyrick among members of the group, a number of them not generally inclined to support Republicans. Interesting.
PS -- Great minds think alike. The Arkansas Project this morning has a report on a Wyrick fund-raiser. Mostly familiar Republicans, but also including Democratic state Rep. Pam Adcock and former City Director Barbara Graves, who served alongside Wyrick's wife, B.J., on the city board.
PPS -- Go here to get a look at Wyrick's TV advertising.

If you fools in Pulaski County seriously think that Phil Wyrick who is one of the larger cattle ranchers in Perry County isn't tied to Senator "Little Bob" Johnson who has little concern for your watershed then you are crazy and deserve what will happen when Wyrick is elected.
Here is a good combination for you running your county and watching out for your clean water:
1) Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola -- former attorney for Perry County who helped them put together plans to defeat any watershed proposal. Also the same Mark Stodola who is closely tied to the same Perry/Pulaski County power structure that has spent so much effort and time trying to defeat your watershed protection.
2) Proposed County Judge Phil Wyrick -- One of the largest cattle farmers in Perry County under the name of Esquire Land and Cattle Co.
It is with true disbelief that I watch how gullilble voters really are when politicians speak. That kind of voting is what allows corruption and poor government to flourish in our country.

Sam, You may indeed be gullible yourself by not fully checking out all the facts such as:
Mark Stodola was strongly supported by Kathy Wells in his run for Mayor. Kathy Wells is a proponent of the coalition trying to protect our water in opposition to Judge Villines approach, so please do not assume that the Mayor is correct in his stance.
Wyrick is NOT one of the largest cattle farmers in Perry County - not even close.
Wyrick has no ties to Senator Johnson. Ask him like I did.
Other issues than water in this election are also very important like the jail and fiscal accountability/responsibility. Both on which Villines has failed to demonstrate solutions. I am tired of county comptrollers embezzeling tax payer dollars and rampant crime brought on by the lack of adequate jail facilites. Buddy was in charge when the embezzlement occured and put the woefully unqualified Ron Quillan in the comptrollers position. Buddy has had a long time to fix the jail. Fortunately his efforts to tax us on the fix have failed since the voters were not gullible enough as you would accuse them to believe that more taxation was the solution - accountable leadership is.
It is time for new leadership in our county government which is the reason for the variety of backgounds and political persuasions that back Wyrick. Bottom line - It's time for a change.
