Peggy Noonan and Sarah Palin

Noonan gets it wrong -- on and off the record -- on Palin, who's at best a wash for the ticket, Brummett writes.

While we're at it: an Alaska website compiles her record on wildlife issues. Suffice it to say no polar bears will be voting for her.

At least somebody, if not the so-called liberal mainstream media, is calling Palin's repeated big lies on the Bridge to Nowhere what they are -- big lies.

the mccain-palin ticket is so bad that if they were leading in all the polls toward the end of october and another terrorist attack caused the election to be postponed/suspended, it could actually be a case of relief. and how bad do you have to be when bush-cheney would be preferable ?

i think brummett way missed the mark on this one. too much logic, not nearly enough emotion.

I tend to agree on this one with Muleboy. I think this election, so far, is all about emotion and all the old logic of comparing trends to previous years, etc., can be thrown out with the garbage. Nothing, so far, seems to be of much importance other than connecting to the emotion of the voter. There is a lot of fear in the country - economic worries, global warming fears with hurricanes, healthcare, and constant threat of wars. There is a sliver of the voting public that is issue oriented - either the "values" stuff for conservatives or the liberal stuff for Democrats, but the majority of those who vote are on neither extreme and they are just too busy working, caring for kids and worrying, to get caught up in the politics of it all. They will decide our next president based on who connects and makes them feel confident that they will be able to handle what's going on and hopefully make things better.

Most of us know that the Democrats are desperately needed right now, but our party has to make that truth obvious to the too-busy-to-read voter and I don't think we yet know who will win the information war - McCain/Palin and their whirling derby, or Obama/Biden and their team of tortoises.

Just to clarify a few naysayers, the letter about Palin from Wasillian,
Anne Kilkenny, is valid as per Snopes.

clik bluename.

On late FOX News last nite the discussion was centered around two competing arguments for/against
Palin
1) If she had shattered the glass ceiling
2) if she is seen as abandoning her motherly responsibilities

Seems the press is paying NO attention to the narrative of Palin's past as demonstrated in Kilkenny's letter.

Immediately after FOX did the late nite/early morning discussion of Palin's public image they switched to Barack's mistake about referring to his religion and if McBush will exploit it. Of course McBush won't but FOX sure will. Watch for stuff today/tonight about Obama saying "My Muslim faith..." which will be a carefully cut/edited piece about his commentary that McBush's campaign is trying to paint him as a true Muslim.
.

.

Oh, eLwood, I watched the Sun morn news show and saw Obama make that slip and I had a terrible feeling of doom. I know what he meant to say and wish instead of a simple correction he had actually rephrased it and stuck with the "Muslim faith" wording, so there would have been no doubt what he was trying to say. By just correcting the slip it sounded like a freudian slip and will forever be burnished in the brains of the goofy who never stopped believing he was a Muslim.

Can't believe this happened!

The tired and worn out Religious Right mantra is still playing out there. A young teacher acquaintance was telling me that people at her church were saying that Christians just had to vote Republican this year. All over the family values thing.

Obama is married with two beautiful children and Biden has a neat family. Only the brain dead could even begin to infer that the Republicans have a lock on family values. There apparently are a lot of brain dead folks out there. It is incredible how many people believe everything they hear and most of them don't have the tools to analyze the propaganda and separate truth from deceit.

Rovian politics works by telling the same lie over and over again until it becomes fact. That is also the only strategy to counter what they do. Keep telling the truth over and over again. Maybe the drones of the right will get a headache and stay home on election day.

The great irony is that the people who are so easily led are the ones most hurt by the policies of the people they help elect. The high gas prices, food prices and mortgage failures are not hurting the rich. They only hurt the poor folks who had to vote the Bush/Cheney regime in because God wanted them to.

It's been already confirmed that Sarah Palin not only distorts lies attends a cult (Assembly of God Church) church but has extreme viewpoints that border on un-Americanism. She's closer to George Bush than McSame and like Bush a B--- S--- blank shooter!

We can only hope that the Media want gloss over her extremes and giver her a pass like her predecessor. We must not let them forget the last time they sat on their mouths it cost America over 4000 of our best fighting men.

Even that ultra conservative mouth Alex Baldwin admits that McSame is only 93% Bush while Palin is a 100% clone.

i find it most curious that a professional politician would intentionally use the word "pitbull" in reference to themselves after what happened just 15 months ago. or perhaps it was on purpose?

either way, it certainly says something about americans short-term memory.

Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton should actively campaign FOR Sarah Lipstick Palin...the Republican RightWingNut heads would EXPLODE!
I know! I know! crazy but man I'd love to see that happen.
The burning question: are glasses the new pantsuit?

Do you know the difference between glasses and a Pantsuit?
Lipstick!

Yup...sensible/appropriate civic issues like the economy and healthcare don't stand a chance against the god of America's religious zealots. And, given that his words/desires belong solely to the white men who chose themselves to be the interpreters for the flock...there's no room for Democracy/reason. No wonder we're having so much trouble fixing some of the horrid problems President Shit for Brains created/failed to fix. It's all downhill once ya believe the earth is five-thousand-years old...and I don't want to go along for that ride.

Hopefully, Obama's slip won't make a difference 'cause those who believe the right wing nut talking points are already voting for McSame. But...what an uh oh....must be Hillary's fault.

Maybe Obama needs to pretend that he's still running against Hillary...when he was at his political best.

You can say it's the religious right, you can call it zealotry, too. What it is, though, is plain old garden variety FEAR. Never have I seen so many of America's great unwashed caught up in the great unconscious lockstep of fearfulness. Fear of change? Fear of a black man as President? Fear of a half-white man as President?

Or is it a nameless fear of waking up from a hypnotic sleepwalking state?

For all the talk of God and religion being thrown at us from the Republian party, there sure are a lot of souls within it who are asleep at the wheel on the facts.

silverbells, that is exactly it. FEAR !

FEAR of having to confront/admit that they've been WRONG all along
(intellectually, morally, and spiritually)
and worse, having to admit that those they hate so much were RIGHT.

they'll grasp and do anything to keep from having to do that.

A Wash for the ticket?

Thats the biggest laugh i've heard all day. It's hard to believe you typed that with a straight face, you know what others know - she's anything but a wash.

the latest polls tell the story, not just the remarkable jump McCain got but the enthusiasm gap has closed, Omaba gave up 16 points on the economy and the crowds at McCain events are huge.

A wash, no I don't think so.

Who knew that Francis Scott Key was such a liar when he wrote that song about America being the the land of the free and the home of the brave? He didn't know in 1812 that later Americans would be scared of their own shadow and that Cheney-Bush would give us rectal exams in our sleep. But here we are a nation of quaking sissies, so wrapped up in ourselves that the Republicans could be running corpse and a faded beauty queen and win in November......ohmagod.....they are!

First of all....we can't let Sweet Sweet Sarah take our mind off what a dangerous old loser McCain is. She's not the one running for President. We've had VPs in the past that melted into the woodwork and were never seen again. We should be screaming about that slimy bastard at the top of their ticket....he's the danger.

After we work as hard as we can to get Obama elected over the bad guys and girls....and if it doesn't work and the American sheep vote in McCain-Palin. We got to come up with plan B. Do we stay and fight or cut and run to another country? Here is where someone should say that the best thing would be for McCain-Palin to inherit the Cheney-Bush mess.....but it won't be me. Putting more gas on a fire never worked. We could toss our computers, TVs & radios and just say FK It! Build an electric fence and stock up on ammo and pretend each day is like the last day for John Wayne at the Alamo.

Looks like there are only 2 world models for a situation like that.....give up and live in the gulag counting the days until you are worked and starved to death. Or....take to the hills and poison their horses and piss in their sacks of grain.....picking them off one at a time until Nixon comes back with a secret plan to end the war. Damn......is there no 3rd way out?

Actually the only real way out is to make sure everyone you know knows the truth about Cheney-Bush-McCain-Palin. I've already ended one lifelong friendship by telling a friend that her belief that Obama is a Muslim is pure horse shit. Now all I can do is hope that sinks into her pea brain by November 4th. If not.......it's been nice knowing ya for 39 years...good luck with the rest home thing and death, hon.

But really why do I expect better? We're all nuts about McCain-Palin but will send Mark W. Pryor back to Congress like he has some kind of Pass Go card from God. If we can't get rid of a sorry ass Senator...why expect any better from the P and VP race? Why is it so easy to convince Arkansans that Obama is a Muslim, but so hard to convince the same people that Mark W. Pryor is a neo-con Bush enabler? Oh right....his daddy.....I forgot....if only Charles Manson had had a nice daddy....

It is fear. We're just a bunch of scared cowards...given our behavior since 9/11. Monkeyboy et al didn't have to work hard to talk most Americans into handing over what was left of their Civil Liberties. Just had to tell them the big bad evil ones were coming for them and they rolled up like a ball of yellow yarn. And, most religious nuts will admit that a fear of hell is what mostly keeps them in line. That's some deity they have there...worship me blindly or I'll send you to burn for eternity. Good thing for me, he's not my deity. My God is based on the love model...the Jesus model.

You are right, CJ, that it isn't a 'wash', but you gotta know it's the novelty of the choice. It isn't because anyone in their right mind want her to be a heartbeat away from the Oval Office - that is an incredibly stupid idea. But, he did something WILD and that has a whole freaking bunch of people running around like kids on a playground because there's a new toy that just popped up.

Surely, even you know that having McCain as President became even more impossible if this country is to right itself and come out of the nightmare we've been living for years. Surely you know that somehow, someway, something has to get thru to the voters to show them that bad as McCain is, a novice playing President would be worse. Do you really want Sarah Palin talking to Putin or the head of the next country to implode? Do you really want this silly ex-beauty queen to determine the course of history for the next 4 or 8 yrs?

If you do, you are out of your mind.

"Do you really want this silly ex-beauty queen to determine the course of history for the next 4 or 8 yrs?"

Thats exactly the kind of underestimating I was talking about.

You democrats would do better to take her more serioussly.

I'm taking her very seriously - deadly seriously. Do YOU feel comfortable with her running the largest super power in the world?

Dangerous, stupid, cynical gamble. Is this Obama's swift boat. The Dems have done it again, given us the government we deserve.
