The POW card

Brummett: When the questioning gets tough -- such as on the sticky question of John McCain's housing inventory -- he will pull out the POW trump card, no matter how little connection it has to the issue.

Comments

This is reminiscent of Giuliani's incessant invocation of 9/11 as his own personal political armor. It sort of worked for him until Biden did the ol' "Noun, verb, 9/11" pinpoint characterization.

No matter the arrow in this campaign, McCain may try to use the POW shield to deflect it. If only people could (would) see through this blatant politicization. Will it wear thin?

I hope if McCain pulls out the POW thing in an irrelevant moment in a debate, Obama will call him on it. Respectfully say something like, "Senator, my ticket and my supporters alike have the utmost solemn respect for your service and sacrifice. Maybe you should show some solemn respect for yourself and other POWs and not use that sacrifice as a weapon of politics." Something like that.

Someone needs to call his shit.

McCain needs to take a page out of the bubba clinton playbook. He should wangle an opportunity to bomb pill factory in a foreign country and then use that as leverage to brag about his veracity as a commander in chief.

That's pretty good. Four whole minutes passed before, "But look at what Clinton did!"

Since bubba is still being pushed down our throats even to the point that he commands attention at the demos convention, what do you expect? He won't go away. His ego needs the constant attention and adulation. This was supposedly obama's coronation but look who captured the lion's share of attention. The clintons simply won't go away and the demos don't have the courage to send them on their way. I noticed that you kept 'Jimma' under wraps for the most part.

Yeah....could you show me the newspaper or TV show that has had anything to say about Bill Clinton since Wednesday of last week? I thought not! I think Bill and Hillary live in your throat strangelove....I'd have that checked by a doctor if I was you.

Ma had a super Christian friend that was/is a thief. One time when I was a teenager he asked if I'd help him load up some antique iron fence and I said sure. We drove across Fort Baptist and pulled up next to a cemetery where he proceeded to unload tools to take the antique iron fence apart for loading. What he didn't know is that I used to live in that neighborhood and I knew the owner of the cemetery and I knew he was fixing to STEAL the iron fence. So I just walked all the way across town, back home. I hate crooks!

About the same time that happened his 7 year old son was found to have cancer. It's the luckiest thing that ever happened to the thief. He incorporated his child's illness into his scams and made out like a bandit. Oh.....my son is dying, he needs medicine, the Lord is going to heal him, but right now he needs money for medicine! When caught now and then it was....don't throw me in jail...my son is dying...I am not in my right mind because I'm so upset....don't throw me in jail! And of course it worked. He kept stealing and conning and never went to jail.

When his son died at St. Jude's, everything he said and did was put in the past tense.....Jesus called my little boy home to sit on his big loving knee......let me have this truckload of antiques on credit and I'll pay you next week. Then it was please don't throw me in jail...my little boy has gone to the Lord. Amazingly this shit still works today!

And this is what John McCain does with his POW status. No matter how bad he is...no matter what lie he gets caught in....POW. I trashed my damaged 1st wife....POW. I vote like Jesse Helms...POW. The Keating 5....POW. 7 to 11 houses and over 100 million....POW.

If you're dumb enough to buy it.....it's just another win for the North Vietnamese.

Clinton's being pushed down your throat. I love it! May I call you Monica?

Clinton is a living former President, as are Carter, Bush I, and pretty soon (please, God!) dubya. For one thing, Clinton's wife came close to getting the nomination, so of course he figures prominently in the DNC. For another, he was a particularly popular president, unlike the others mentioned.

If dubya hadn't been such a stinking sack of shit, he'd be playing a big part in the RNC. But he was and is (and ever shall be) a stinking sack of shit, so he won't be playing a big role in the RNC.

Not only do Democrats love Clinton, America loves Clinton. He left office with 64% approval. The blow-job impeachment didn't work.

V-P Dick Cheney leaves office with 19% and one shot up lawyer.

Pres. Bush leaves office with 24% and one shot up country, one ruined budget.

"Dick Cheney for president of the world." Tony Soprano.

McCain will get mileage out of the POW story/excuse, and there isn't much that can be done about it. If you bash him, the conservatives howl about how unpatriotic you are and you go the way of Wes Clark. If the voting public were paying attention, he wouldn't get away with it. He does it so often it would be glaringly obvious and about the third time he pulled that worn-out story out of his pocket, the audience would start jeering. But they don't pay attention so it will work and bad old unpatriotic Democrats who hate our military and want to 'surrender' in Iraq will be beaten to a pulp if they call McIsh on his ish.

Funny how some things are off limits in a political campaign - McCain's "hero" status, race, gender, religion - except when you are a Clinton and then nothing is off limits.
