Who's on second?

James Fallows of the Atlantic Monthly explains it in a nutshell: Sarah Palin doesn't know what the Bush doctrine is for the same reason I don't know one thing about baseball.

Great piece of writing.

Great YouTube vid highlighting the significance of Palin not know what the Bush Doctrine is:

"Sarah Palin doesn't know what the Bush doctrine is for the same reason I don't know one thing about baseball."

Shouldn't that "d" in "doctrine" be capitalized?

Let me post it again: Bush doesn't know what the Bush Doctrine is either.

.

I doubt if members of the DNC could answer that question. Most people don't have a deep grasp of these things until they have been in the campaign for awhile. Compare obama's performance at the beginning of the campaign with hillary as compared to day. There is no comparison. They learn as they go. Her job is not to implement the Bush doctrine. It is to support McCain's foreign policy. I doubt if any votes were lost over something that minor.

I thought she was running as McCain's vp not Bush's? It would have been interesting to hear obama's answer to the same question.

"I thought she was running as McCain's vp not Bush's?"

What's the difference?

Rickbaber said: What's the difference?

In your dreams that you can sell that DNC talking point. Most voters know that McCain was a pain in the neck to Bush. You won't win with that one. Obama is a muslim.

Strange, there is not one person on this blog, in my immediate family and among my siblings who could not have answered that question better than she did. Fallows is 100% correct that her performance showed her to be an incurious, disinterested person as far as what has happened in our foreign policy since 9-11. She can be faulted for that, and indeed she must be faulted for that. She brings nothing to the position other than an attractive face and some excitement for McCain's supporters. She is so not qualified that it is an insult to the country to even have to discuss her qualifications.

And you think that you can see people that obama is experienced enough to be president? Dream on, pal.

And you think that you can sell people that obama is experienced enough to be president? Dream on, pal.

There are times on this blog when I would like to argue with strangelove, but how can you argue with someone who is not bound by the truth? Strange knows Obama is not a Muslim, but continues to say he is. How many other things does Strange say that he knows are lies?

Willie, I'd guess about as many as McCain and Palin.

Now you are on the receving end of your nonsense. I don't buy it either but you idiots put out nonsense all of the time and love to see the impact it has. It isn't much fun is it?

You know the difference between strangelove and Common Sense? Lipstick!

Talking with people like strange reminds me of trying to reason with my 14-year-old son. At that age, he knew everything, rejected education and was emotionally incapable of distinguishing between his feelings (hormones) and reality. Plus, every now and then he'd yank parent strings just 'cause he was bored and he secretly wanted our attention. And, boy could he spout some nonsense.

Glad he matured into a brilliant, handsome, loving--but smart-ass man.

Yes, well that lipstick is running circles around your guys right now. Have you seen the latest polls and I'm not just speaking about the presidency? Demos are worried that they might not just lose the presidency but the House as well. Doesn't look like you will pick up that 60 majority in the Senate. I thought you guys were going to take over everything this year. I guess you tripped over some lipstick. Not to worry. There is always 2012. What's a moonbat to do.

The person who coined the term "Bush Doctrine" in the first place weighs in -

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/12/AR2008091202457.html

I finally had the chance to read the Fallows piece. (That IS what we're talking about, isn't it?) It's a fine summary of what we're facing with the RNC dream team--more of the same.

Especially spot on was his assessment of Bush's toxic combination of decision making traits:

1) Ignorance
2) Lack of curiosity
3) "Decisiveness"

I'm looking forward to the debates. I think Sarah is gonna choke, then crumble.

McCain, too, for that matter.

Compare, with an objective mind, Gibson's interview of Palin vs Stephanopolis' interview of Obama last Sunday. Hillary was right about MSM's treatment of her and other females. This election will be the death knoll for the MSM.

Ooo! Sarah's not so nice when caught.

The MSM has pretty much lost its influence. Cable contributed greatly to it and the internet sunk it. Too much is now available to people to see the bias of the MSM and to expose its bias.

It would be so much fun to sit here and trash the politicians, but Tuesday was trash day and I really don't want to fill the can this early in the week. Besides that my old bones are telling me to tell all of you to have fun, and that I should carry my lard butt off to shower and then sack-time. Enjoy, but remember after you get through chewing up politicians you have got to spit, if you swallow, you will get sick!

Nor should he. That is a corporate or military title.

Btw, our most successful president to preside over a war, a real war, was FDR with zero chief officer of the military experience.

FDR had been secretary of the navy.

And FDR had been governor of NY but never served in the military.

I thought that assessment was especially important. Intellectual thinking requires curiosity. Obama is very intelligent and curious and brings a lot to the table in world experience. He has lived in and visited foreign countries and experienced various cultures due to his heritage. He has been a professor of constitutional law. Having read both of his books, I know what his ideas are. I know that "executive experience" doesn't mean that much when 2 of the men who are considered our greatest presidents didn't have executive exeprience (Lincoln & Kennedy). I know Obama will uphold and defend the Constitution.

Bush, as pointed out above, had toxic decision making traits. His executive experience didn't do the country much good did it?

FDR had been Assistant Secretary of the Navy. I think if you look real hard over the last 232 years of this American experiment, you'll find Presidents entering office with lots of experience FK'ed up about equally with P's who had little experience, but had a good head on their shoulders.

In 1932 America had no choice, like us today, so they voted in the prissy crippled rich guy while holding their noses. Of course anyone was better than Herbert Hover redux. Much like 1932, the 2 things wrong with the Bush administration and our entire government are: 1. Corruption, 2. Incompetence. Obama screams Change! Now McCain is screaming Change! Reform! The only two things they have to change and reform are: 1. Corruption, 2. Incompetence. Anything less gives us more of the same.

We wave our flag, we sing our national anthem, we think God is an American, white skin, blonde hair and all. But our government is a goddamn mess and what our government has been doing and is doing around the world is 100 times worse. If you're busting with pride in your country right now, though it is normally an admirable trait, right now it means you are a no-information voter. It is distinctly American to criticize our country when it's on the wrong track.

When zelda was speaking about her bad boy up above, she didn't hate him, she wanted him better and she took the measures to make him better and it worked. We need the same tough love in our country right now. After the crooked and the incompetent are removed, after we pull our nose and our missiles out of the rest of the world. THEN I'll become a proud American again...because I'll have something to be proud of.

Closer to home, our 2 US Senators suffer from the following:
1) Ignorance
2) Lack of curiosity
3) "Gutlessness"
4) Invisibleness
5) good service to their special interest groups, next to nothing for the rest of us.

We need to reform and or change them too, starting with Pryor this year and Lincoln next year. American cannot be better if Arkansas sends smiling do-nothings to Congress. Congress currently has a 9% approval rating, Mark and Blanche share the blame of that too. For every bad thing that is said about Cheney-Bush, the same can be said for Mark W. Pryor because he supported them most of the time. His Gang of 14 was nothing more than a Rovean ploy to appear patriotic but deliver to Cheney-Bush exactly what they asked for. Mark must go away and be replaced with a person with a good head on their shoulders.

We've got 50 days to overcome the no-information voters and the dirty tricks machine and put Barack Obama in the White House. 4 more years and America will be gone. Think harder, work to end corruption and incompetence, help save our country. This is last call.

Strange, there is much about Obama that can be questioned legitimately, but he does bring the most important qualification to the table - a wide knowledge of how the world works and how the dominoes stack up. He does not adhere to the 'with us or against us' immaturity of the past 8 yrs, and he can talk intelligently with world leaders on any subject, even if he has not had executive experience. Many of the posters on this blog are capable of talking about areas all around the world where trouble exists or might develop, with understanding (at least rudimentary) and intelligence. This is not a trait that is hard to come by, but we all see people who are so steeped in their own interests - be they local or personal - that they have little awareness of world-wide situations beyond their own small sphere. Sarah is the latter - like GWB (and that should seriously trouble even the most partisan Republicans) she appears incurious, about the rest of the world and though she has been a governor for almost two yrs, she shows no understanding of events beyond her state - that's okay for a governor - but not someone who might soon be president.

There are also those who are steeped in knowledge but it is so narrow in its scope that it brings them little or nothing with which to switch gears and deal with problems outside their particular area of expertise. Without that curious, always reading, watching, listening to everything that occurs from science, to remote politics, to questions of spirituality, mental health, economic possibilities and probabilities on a global scale - there will be problems being an effective leader of the US. I believe completely, that anyone on this blog or others who are actively involved in political discussions on a daily basis, are 100% more capable than either McCain or Palin, but certainly more than Palin. I'm shocked anyone would be comfortable with her backing up the aging McCain.

Obama has that curiosity, quick intelligence and broad knowledge, and I think if you are honest, you will admit that McCain has a narrow sphere of knowledge based mostly on the military and Palin has the most narrow, parochial viewpoint concentrated on her state and a few issues that impact them daily, but with absolutely no world view.

A good president needs knowledge, not of specifics in US government, but of a general nature that will make him quickly and readily adaptable to crises and capable of long range planning. Many candidates this year had that and Obama is one of them - not the best IMO, but certainly adequate.

McCain's choice of Veep screams that he isn't concerned about the US, only his career. I don't think any man who would be president would put forward a Palin knowing that he is aging and battling cancer.

I'm surprised this whole choice doesn't trouble you a lot.

As joe boca grande biden said the presidency is no learning ground. World knowledge---where did he get that? Is it because he has lived in different parts of the world. I have lived in different parts of the world. I have traveled throughout the world. Does that make me qualified in terms of foreign policy. The experience that the president has to have is the implementation of foreign policy. He has to make it and implement it. This is why the president needs executive experience. Traveling around the world does not equate to that. Try again.

How idiotic......executive experience in foreign policy is only obtained by being president. McCain has zero, Palin has zero, Obama and Biden have zero. The ONLY thing anyone can bring to the table if they aren't the outgoing VP, is intelligence and broad knowledge - Obama has that more than Palin and McCain together and not as much as Biden.

I knew it was a waste of time to try to have an intelligent exchange with you.

One reason I'm not so concerned about Obama's lack of "executive foreign policy experience" is that the President is always heavily advised and I trust his ability to pick advisors who will be beneficial to our country far more than I trust McCain's. Like Bush before him, I believe McCain will pick yes men (maybe a few yes women) who will never challenge him and only seek to enrich themselves and their friends. After all, this is a man who wants us to stay in Iraq for the next 100 years. Considering what we spend per day in Iraq today, we better start having bake sales to China to get the cash for that.

I think Obama will pick better advisors who truly care about the future of the country, not what high powered lobbying job they can get in 3 years. I think Obama will pick a Secretary of State, the cabinet position where you REALLY need foreign policy experience or ability, that will ably advise him.

Palin was the chief executive office of her state and of a city. That doesn't equal 0.
