Anchorwoman dies
Anne Pressly, the KATV morning anchor who was beaten in her home earlier this week, has died of her injuries about half an hour ago. Doctors had been guardedly optimistic, but her injuries -- including broken bones in her face and upper body -- were too severe. KATV has the story.
UPDATE: A report on KARK says she died at 7:07 p.m.
A statement from the family:
"We are profoundly saddened to tell you that our dear Anne has lost her struggle for life. It was our hope, as was yours, that Anne would overcome the injuries inflicted upon her in the brutal attack at her home. We were with her in her last moments, and although our hearts are broken, we are at the same time comforted by our faith knowing that Anne is now with our Heavenly Father.
The outpouring of compassion we have received is truly a testament to the way in which Anne has touched so many people in a positive way. Thank you for your prayers and your many acts of kindness. We are grateful for the wonderful care Anne received from her doctors, nurses and others at St. Vincent.
Our lives will not be the same without her. We ask that you continue to pray for us as we struggle to move forward without our dear sweet daughter. We also ask that you give us the privacy we need at this very difficult time."
Guy and Patti Cannady
The parents of Anne Pressly

'That picture in the first article, the one at the fashion show a couple of weeks ago, in the black dress with her hair swept up and that beautiful smile. So full of life. That's the way I will always remember her.

I have said prayers for Anne and her family all week.
Please take a moment and say a prayer for the fireman at Station #10 who were the first responders and the EMT's and Police. They bear a heavy burden.

An already horrible situtation has gotten profoundly worse. I did not know Anne, or her work on KATV, but I grieve for her because of the attack that she endured, and because she ultimately lost her battle to survive it. My heart goes out to all of her loved ones.
Like others on this board, I hope that they catch the person that did this to her - and I hope that after that after that person is fairly tried and sentenced, and the time to carry out that sentence comes, we all remember Anne and her family as well as we do tonight.

THE LORD HAS WELCOMED HOME ONE OF HIS BRIGHTEST ANGELS. ANNE PRESSLY. OUR LIFE WAS SO MUCH SWEETER THAT SHE PASSED OUR WAY. ARKANSAS AND ALL WHO MET HER SHOULD THANK HER PARENTS, AND OUR LORD, FOR ALLOWING US TO HAVE HAD JUST A LITTLE BIT OF THE GOODNESS AND SWEETNESS THAT WAS ANNE RUB OFF ON ALL OF US.
ANNE WAS THE ULTIMATE TESTIMONY TO A GREAT AND LOVING LORD. SHE LIVED HIS WORD AT ALL TIMES, CONSISTENTLY CHRISTIAN, ALWAYS GENTLE, LOVING AND CONSIDERATE TO THOSE AROUND HER.,
WE ARE BETTER HUMAN BEINGS FOR HAVING KNOWN HER..

This tragedy is matched by what I see as the ineptness of the LRPD. If they have surveillance video of this monster from the Shell station, why the hell hasn't it been released? Yes, they have a responsibility to find this animal, but they also have a responsibility to alert the rest of us on what to look out for.
If they don't have any clues, then they couldn't find their ass in a bushel basket. The LRPD detective division has fallen from a proud group not too long ago to a group of nine to fivers who care more about covering their asses and making it to quitting time.
The attempt to control the press earlier in the week was also ridiculous. Amateurs. Please someone call the FBI.

No question this is a horrible tragedy - made worse by Anne's passing. Indeed, all of our hearts and condolences are with Anne's family and friends.
I too would like to start hearing some answers from the LRPD and the City's leadership. If their silence is due to the fact that they are hot on the trail of a suspect and that requires their silence, they should tell us as much and let us know that further information will be forthcoming. If not, they should acknowledge their obligation to at least inform the citizenry of the full facts of this matter so that we can all sleep at night with the full information at hand. We need not know the details for curiosity reasons (although I'm sure that is the motive of some) but, instead, we need to know so that we are adequately informed and protected. Do they think this person is still in the City? Do they think this person may have fled the City? If they don't know, shouldn't we assume they are still in the City and take necessary precautions? Was sexual assault a part of this crime. If so, it adds an even further heightened alertness to the citizenry as sexual assailants typically strike again. If not and appears to be only a burglary, that is also important to know. All of these things are uncomfortable and there may not be many answers, but we are entitled to the answers that are available. Otherwise, we are left to assume the worst - in both the facts of this case and in our assessment of our City's leadership. Shame on the LRPD/City's silence. Shame on their lack of leadership. Shame on their disregard for further informing and thereby protecting their citizens. Shame on them for unnecessarily leaving us further in the dark than they should.
And despite all these issues, of course, may God continue to bless Anne's spirit and her family and friends as they (and we) mourn her loss.

I fault mostly Buddy Villines. Without a doubt, Jim Dailey, Mark Stodla, and Pat Hays also share the blame.
Little Rock has money for everything but a jail.
I am sure that the cretin that killed Anne Pressly will turn out to have been part of the revolving door policy over at the county jail.
The man suspected of killing the young mother in front of her three children earlier this week has multiple priors. Thanks, Buddy V.
Ten per cent of the population commits 90 per cent of the crime. Let's keep that ten percent away from our daughters, sisters and mothers.
Why can't we divert money from the hamburger tax or the bottomless amount of funds that Bobby Roberts/CALS has to play with?
I am all for new libraries, submarines, ball parks, trolley cars, dam bridges, and the river market revitalization. After we build a jail.....................A big--ass jail.
We need to get our priorities straight.

30acres - I agree on taking money away from the Hamburger tax - A&P is overly wasteful and doesn't do much. We need less A&P & more jail beds. That said, we should probably keep CALS funding high - giving youth a place to go after school that is full of books seems like a good idea to keep kids off the street and less likely to cause trouble in their later years.
Buddy deserves to lose on the Jail & the Lake, even if Wyrick is a jerk, I still voted for him because Buddy is a idiot and has run the county poorly because I think he never thought the voters would call him on it.
