By popular demand: God's candidate
OK, just to show the depth of nuttiness out there, I bow to many readers who call for a link to wackjob World Net Daily Bible-thumper Janet Porter who writes today: "You cannot be a Christian and vote for Obama."
This is the same Janet Porter who flogged Mike Huckabee back in the day. A particular favorite is here, when she predicted that President Huckabee's cabinet would include Defense Secretary Duncan Hunter, Director of Homeland Security Tom Tancredo, Attorney General Sam Brownback and Director of Health and Human Services Alan Keyes. A blogger notes that Porter once wrote that only "sheep" would vote for John McCain over The Huckster.

Comments
>>To all those who name the name of Christ who plan to willfully disobey Him by voting for Obama, take warning. Not only is our nation in grave danger, according to the Word of God, so are you.<
Janet the Whacko.
chasv are the above words in the bible? Or is she making up stuff?
Then Janet goes on to condemn Bush and Cheney:
"These six things the LORD hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren."

John 3:16 must have a footnote I was not aware of about the Lord's saving grace is null and void if you vote democratic. Oh, were there demorats and republicans in the Bible? Do these wingnuts actually read their Bibles let alone anything else?

Why the nerve of that woman! Everyone knows that the scriptures approve of the dismemberment of a viable baby in the womb. That isn't murder. It is, ah, 'reassignment to a better place'. Letting a baby die when they have been born of a botched abortion isn't murder it is, ah, 'reassignment to a better place'. Yea, I can go with that. Who does she think she is----a human being?

Actually it is in the Bible that God approves of the slaying of children and even orders it. Does a lot of other crappy things and is really big on the mumbo jumbo stuff. As we've often said before, there are contradictions all throughout the book.

Did God tell you that he approves of the 40 million babies aborted in the United States? Did God tell you that he approves of the full term babies pulled out of the mother's womb while leaving the head in the birth canal so that the doctor could crush its head crushed and then have the brains sucked out? Please let us know about this message to you from God. The bible that I read says that 'thrall shall not murder'.

Evangelical writer Jim Wallis has a great response to the abusive, dishonest use of religion and scripture by people like Porter and Daddy Dobson at Huffington Post today: www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-wallis/james-dobsons-letter-from_b_139253.html.
As he points out, these folks use religion as a tool of fear to beat people into submission.
I'm looking for the day when the "religious" "right" stops being able to play the abortion card or the gay card to drive the flock to the polls. It's not as if they really care about the sanctity of life, after all, is it?
If how Bush handled Katrina, or if his pursuit of the war in Iraq, or if his refusal to provide healthcare for babies in need, attest to his belief in the sanctity of life, I'll eat my hat.

Best I can figure God invented abortion and means for everyone to do it at least 5 times in their life. You goofball! jake's right about all the whacko stuff in the Bible. If someone literally followed everything in the Bible they'd be in the next cell over from Charles Manson. Girls having sex with their dads, old men getting young girls preggers with their wife's permission. People turning into salt statues.....Star Trek is more believable.
But that isn't the big issue here. Satan & Hitler never listed an uglier bunch of helpers than this crazy woman lists as President Huckabee's cabinet! Can we bring back witch burning and start with this old sow? Huckabee is the only non-hater in the group. I'll give Huck credit.....he's a greedy bastard, but he's not much of a hater.
Hacks like this gal will be around as long as there are dumbasses dumb enough to read her silly tripe. And boy is a mind indeed a terrible thing to waste. Let's be adults at least until after next Tuesday.....pleeeeese.

Strangelove, I'm sorry, but you seem misinformed on the topic of abortion. And since you are apparently misinformed, you're spreading disinformation.
In the U.S., 89% of all abortions occur during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy when no life can possibly be sustained outside the womb.
Only 0.2 percent of abortions occur 21 or more weeks into a pregnancy. These are the dilation and extraction abortions to which your posting refers. These almost always occur for the following medical reasons: 1) the fetus is already dead in the womb; 2) the fetus is anencephalic and will die within five days of birth, or 3) the fetus is severely hydroencephalic, and the size of its skill represents a serious danger to the mother if she carries the pregnancy to term.
Why are you speaking of "murder" and of 40 million abortions as if all are dilation and extraction procedures?
And, since the large majority of women choosing abortions are living in poverty and without adequate health coverage for themselves and their children, if we're committed to seeing abortions as a less attractive opportunity for them, why don't we talk about the social needs that have to be addressed if we want to decrease abortions?
For that matter, when we're talking about babies dying and God being concerned about them, I wonder if your God has room in Her heart for all the babies dying around the world every day due to lack of basic nutrition or medical care, while we in the U.S. generally live at a very high level? Is your God concerned only about American babies? White babies? Christian babies?
My God's concerned about all of the, because She creates all of them. She wonders why my church, the Catholic church, opposes condom use in Africa, where that opposition results in millions of babies born with HIV, who die early and gruesomely.

When people like Bush, Chasv, strange and their God, cheer for lying us into wars where we bomb, shoot, torture and starve pregnant women along with everyone else... is that kind of abortion somehow better? If you kill both the fetus and the mother and the rest of the family, does that make it a sin free wash?

MY god (notice little "g"), if it chose to exist for your benefit, would say that people will believe anything if you start teaching them very young, that there are really no guarantees, that American beer is a cheap imitation of the real thing, that religion is used more to manipulate than to help people, and that spit was created so a baby could spit up crappy food, a kid could blow a spitwad on the chalkboard, and a pitcher could toss a spitball.
Mankind is cursed with this centrism (blessed by holy writ) that it is the ultimate creature in the universe and thus deserves to wreck the planet, the solar system, and other travel spots in the cosmos in order to "survive" and/or have fun. In reality, mankind is becoming a cancerous growth upon the face of this earth and will eventually become another extinct species which just so happened to be responsible for murdering, killing, and torturing thousands of other species, laying waste to a large portion of the planet's natural resources, and claiming to be under the aegis of a God most often known for a terrible temperament.
So, don't come claiming any special wisdom because you cite religious belief. Don't claim to care for these microscopic cells when the record shows you claim to have killed in battle, support the atrocities done by this government, and think collateral damage is justified in the course of war.
On the other hand, my god just told me to STFU, get a cold brewski that is definitely not from Milwaukee or St. Louis, and celebrate the fact that religious whackos are going to get their well-deserved come-uppance in a few days for spouting the poisonous nonsense that infects their hollow craniums.
It is hard to be humble, isn't it?

Jake, your god sounds a lot like my God.
Mine is not really in the habit of talking directly to me or anyone else, not in the explicit way that Pat Robertson's God seems to talk to him all the time.
She's too busy caring about all the millions of children She took time to create, who then have no chance at life, in large part, due to the malicious efforts of those who claim to be speaking for Her, when what they really value is $$$$.

Blessings. For once you got one right strange. Join us in the reading of God's work and His fate
for Samaria..Behold-
"Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up."
Hosea 13:16
and once again god shows disdain-
"Then Menahem smote Tiphsah, and all that were therein, and the coasts thereof from Tirzah: because they opened not to him, therefore he smote it; and all the women therein that were with child he ripped up."
Kings 15:16.

DBI, I think that your use of Satan and HItler and Abortion together is so appropriate. Birds of a feather....you know. Thanks for highlighting the real essence of murdering babies in their mother's womb----in some cases not in the womb. Its 'enlightening' to know that something as barbaric as abortion can find a champion. It just goes to show you that regardless of the barbarism it can always find an audience.

People are responsible for their own actions. They aren't 'driven' from churches. They leave because their heart is not there. I've heard the plethora of excuses and I have used some of them myself in the past. Some come back because they realize that they need something that they can not find within themselves. I'm thankful for them. Are you missing something in your life?

I never heard of Janet Porter until this instant.
Just like a dog pecker knat, she focuses in on one thing.

I've been missing A LOT in my life for 8 years........
1. faith, not fear, of my own government
2. love and pride in the USA
3. I miss telling people from outside the US that I am a citizen of the greatest country on earth
4. I miss the feeling of security that my son's/grandson's lives will not be fodder for Repug oil
5. I miss thinking of a bright future for my loved ones, thanks to cheney, bush, mccain the
future only holds gloom and doom........no matter who wins tuesday the country is in such
ruins it will take years and years, if ever, to recover.
I've lived my life, the best years this country had to offer, and its been a hell of a ride, but,
I worry, worry, lose sleep for all the young but, especially those I love, love, love so very much.

Well, I haven't to date been ashamed of my country. I'm proud of my service and would do it again. However, it disturbs me that some people dismiss their country because they don't like a political leader because of the party that he hails from. You go to bed at night with a roof over your head. You have clean water. You have power 24 hours a day that you can rely on. When you get up in the morning you know that you will have something to eat probably more than you need. You probably own your own home and have more than one television set. These are just a few of the things that you take for granted. Many in the world don't have any of these things. When they get up in the morning they don't know if they will make it through the day. Be thankful what we have and quit putting down what you have been blessed with. You may not have it for long.

"Be forewarned: If you willfully disobey God on life and marriage because of race or false hope for the economy, you will usher in the kind of change that brought the Soviet Union to collapse."
Oh, lovely. . . Bush/Cheney ushered in the worst economic crisis since the depression and if there is no miracle in the offing, I guess I'm going to have to take the blame for it. I voted for Barack Obama today. And so did my husband! He may not win Arkansas, but we did our part.
Last time I looked, Strange, GeorgeBoy didn't make sure we had power available 24 hours a day (usually, except for Jazzy) and safe, clean water to drink. (Actually, my neighbors of 40-plus years ago did that, shoehorning all sorts of volunteer labor around the responsibilities of full time jobs, homes and families.) If that had been the responsibility of George Bush and company, well, cogitate a minute on New Orleans. And virtually the whole of Iraq.
By far, the greater majority of us pay for our own shelter and food. I refuse to say "Thank you, George, for my daily blessings."
Dismiss my country? No, I MISS my country, the country as it was before Bush and Cheney ravaged it and brought it virtually to its knees in the eyes of the rest of the world.
You're like the parent whose child can do no wrong, even as he watches him knock the neighbor's little girl down and kick her. You know the refrain. "He's just all boy." Well, Bush and Cheney are two of those "all boys" and we've all seen what they've grown up to become.
And now about the advertising intro to the website, the one Claude noted earlier: "Remember that big meal you had last week [with a picture of a huge hamburger]? This week you can lose 10 to 15 pounds of waste retained in your colon."
How appropriate.

About all the rest of your rants.......we lost EVERYTHING under RR rule in the 80's..........
had to scratch and claw to where we are today.
Don't you dare preach to me....my husband is 82 and works sunup to sun down 6 days a week
and after hours is a volunteer for people who have even less than we have and carries on
his duties as a deacon in our church.
This is the nasty bottom we have come to.........bring on the 2nd civil war............
I'm ready to knock the shit out of these idiots.

Yep, Strange is cranky tonight. First Cowgirl, now Jazzy, and who knows who else since I haven't read every thread.
Night, night, all. I think I'm gonna have sweet dreams tonight, not having to worry about hubby standing out in the weather -- good or bad -- next Tuesday, waiting to vote.
Incidentally, the poll workers and various assistants at the courthouse were wonderful -- whisked us right through, provided us with chairs for the short wait, gave clear and complete instructions, everything we needed.
The only thing I would suggest would be that they provide more voting machines. I believe there were only seven or eight and they could easily have used three or four times as many since I understand that many people had a wait in excess of 45 minutes to an hour.

No, just trying to make a point. It seems that sometimes you have to put a little more 'umph' into it to penetrate some hard skulls.
