Counting blessings
On rough days, it's worth seeking some positives. For example, you might still be employed.
Unlike, say, the 100 or so people at a Fayetteville company told Wednesday their jobs had disappeared and there might not be a final paycheck.

As I noted earlier, the safety net for the unemployed and those whose income has been "downsized" by the economy is itself in for hard times. The charities and other non-profits depend upon private contributions, government funds and grants from foundations, all of which are going to be smaller and fewer. Sometimes the donations are in the form of stock or real estate. The foundations' grants depend upon the returns from their investment portfolios or profits from the supporting businesses. Even if the economy becomes better, the recovery of those funding sources is going to take longer.

This is what happens when you work for a single owner who becomes deathly ill and passes
on.
I recall when major layoffs occurred with much larger players in Faytteville during the post Viet Nam recession of the 70s. Many folks moved in with their families.
