Dobbins' appeal denied
The state Supreme Court today denied Dwayne Dobbins' appeal of a circuit court ruling rejecting his lawsuit to get onto the ballot as a Democratic candidate for state House of Representatives. He waited too long to contest the party's refusal to certify him as the nominee, the court said.
Dobbins is the former Democratic representative who gave up his seat several years ago in a plea bargain over a sexual molestation case. Then he emerged at the last minute as a candidate this year instead of his wife, who the state Democratic Party had expected to file for re-election. The Democratic Party refused to certify Dobbins as nominee after passing a rule aimed at keeping his sort off the ballot. The House has also passed a ruling barring the seating of plea bargainers like Dobbins.
