Doubletree redone

The press was invited in for a look at the Doubletree Hotel in Little Rock today, where a $12 million renovation has been completed. New furniture, paint and design touches throughout, from public areas to rooms, such as the one above. Chocolate chip cookies were served.

UGLY

I like it! Kudos to the DoubleTree for dressing up the place.

Well anything is an improvement that's for sure.

That would explain yesterday's cookie ad, eh?

I certainly hope the service has improved. I'm willing to give almost anyone a shot... but I had a bad experience a couple of years ago at this hotel. I was working overnights at the time, and was stuck downtown during the big Ice Storm (I believe it was in 2000). Of course, if you work overnights you have a crazy schedule. I was reserved for a room for a couple of days, and got back to the hotel to sleep. Imagine my surprise when a manager came into my room around 2pm and told me the room had been sold to someone else. Yes, a little conversation cleared things up, but by that point I was unable to get back to sleep.

We don't often have to utilize the hotel facilities in our hometowns -- and this was a rare case -- but it left a very bad taste in my mouth for the property.

I hope that customer service at the hotel has improved since then... surely it has...

Well, I hope the "re-do" included instructions to staff on how to clean guest rooms and the public bathrooms. Twice in recent years, a group I'm with had conferences there and both times we received numerous complaints from our members about those two areas. We haven't been back and don't intend to go back until word gets out that things have improved significantly at Doubletree.

if the press was invited in, how in the world did you score photos?

Whut kinda tv it got?

ARK. BLOG: So glad you asked, Chief. 42"-flatscreens with DirecTV in every room. "Sweet Dreams" bedding. Wolfgang Puck single-cup coffee makers. Fitness center with Precor equiment.

And especially for you, "updated bar."

Thank ye, Maximum Leader Blogger.
That's awful nice of 'em to put in a big tv and an "updated bar" for me, but I'd prefer a "bar date" and a deck. I'm not sure about "sweet dreams" bedding; that sounds like something I'd find on Craigslist or in the FREEP for a price.

I believe I posted this video on an open line a long time ago. It has nothing to do with the LR Doubletree in particular, but hotels in general.

It's a 7 minute exposé on some bad hotel housekeeping practices, but you'll get the idea after a minute or so.

Eeeewww.

Click.

Nice, but I bet they don't sell the pitchers of martinis for like two bucks the way the old Jesters' Lounge did during Happy Hour when it first opened. Jimmy Jones and I once drank three each. I do not remember the rest of that evening.
