Huckabee in 2012
Many days left. Voters are fickle. Attention spans are short in the days of cable and the Internet. But, as the reliable Iowa futures market indicates, Obama is a heavy favorite to win the presidency.
Why?
One important factor: The lack of enthusiasm on the Republican side. Evidence: the public comments on the Huckpac's blog post on last night's debate. The string seems significantly lacking in reflexive pro-McCain comments. Many people of like mind won't shed tears about a McCain loss. They yearn for a second coming of the Huckabee candidacy in 2012. That's his plan.
UPDATE: Funny. I wrote the above before seeing an extensive American Prospect post about the likelihood of a Huckabee candidacy in 2012. He looks more influential than James Dobson, the article says. Tom DeLay has already said Huck is the man for the year. (Do you get the idea thatRepubs expect McCain to lose?) The article has a link to a website tracking all the places in the U.S. that fans are praying for Huck, but it's a slow load. Note that his support is stronger in several states than in Arkansas, according to the website. To know him is apparently not necessarily to love him.

Comments
I happened upon his show while channel surfing the other night and I was embarrassed for him. It looked like a CHEAP infomercial where the audience is filled with either family members or poorly paid participants. It was pitiful...even if ya like the guy.
I'd say he doesn't stand a chance of hoodwinking the entire country into believing he's not a religious nut on a Mission to push his religious views on the rest of us, but after the last seven years ANYTHING is possible. I'm not surprised, however, that he's more influential (in certain circles) than Dobson et al...he's much slicker and a better speaker than most of those guys. Plus, he's better at hiding his zealotry from the general public...which is one reason copies of his earlier sermons are very hard to get. (Most preachers have copies of every sermon they've given and are proud to share them...no matter how ignorant/nutty they might make them look.)

I didn't want to go here, but I must.
Only my soulmate, eLwood, will truly understand the planetary intricacy behind what I'm about to impart. But here goes.
Mike Huckabee is and always has been a genial national joke, as a politician. Governor of a self-proclaimed southern "banana republic."
It is all he ever WILL be.
We loved him better fat.
Fattys are funny.
Thinner? We're suspicious.
So is he. Look in his eyes. Once jovial, now wary.
'S goin' down, Mike?
Star Jones? Text me again how you lost all that weight?
2012 is four years down the road.
Think the Huckster will STILL have his Fox show?
B-w-a-a-h-a-a-h-a-a-a-a-!
Think the Huckster will STILL be slender?
B-w-a-a-h-a-a-h-a-a-a-a-!
It's only as a porker that Huckabee is authentic, and thus loved. It's who and what he is.
But America will NEVER elect a fatty President.
Televangelism, honey.
Money's better, stress is less.
Politics is a loser for ya, sugar.
Plus your "family issues."
You know.
You're lucky you made Governor, dumpling.
If you're as smart as you insist, you'll segue into something more realistic and remunerative.
And you can still crack wise on Howard Stern. Which, really my darling, is your niche.
But you'll never be President or Vice-President.
Really and truly?
The male Tammy Faye.
Think it through conceptually, Mike.
You've already got the lips, the lashes, the band, the booty, sweetness.
Take the Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker trajectory to the next level.
Seriously. You and Janet can be Arkansas' answer to Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.
America wants to love you. Plump up and be jolly, cupcake!
Because America doesn't want to be governed by a formerly-rotund tummy-stapled Arkansas joke saddled with a delinquent son.
I'm just sayin'.

Ony God can make oil and only God saw fit to make so many

Lest Tides of Time wash away any Hope of a Rock'n Prez twenty 12
Standing hand in hand with Our Savior, to bring Grace upon these

I was going to post this on the daily general thread, but this seemed fitting. It explains a great deal
Isn't this interesting and very sad. Notice that professed watchers of the Daily Show and Colbert Report ranked above ALL news shows as having informed viewers. I wonder how SNL Nightly News watchers would rank?
A new study by the Pew Research Study shows that viewers of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have the highest knowledge of national and international affairs, while Fox News viewers rank nearly dead last

Huckabee's show topped CNN, CBS and MSNBC all COMBINED so, you certainly don't have to be embarrassed for him, just for yourself for having such poor taste that you can't recognize a real winner when you see one. It is so funny to see all you liberals shaking in your boots already at the prospect of Huckabee in 2012! Huck is the politician who makes more sense than all the rest combined. He is smart enough to speak out against the bailout and has endorsed the Fair Tax, the single most thing to help the economy long term. Unlike Obama, he has SUBSTANCE to his powerful speeches and a PROVEN record as a leader. He is a strong man and will make a strong president, and I predict, one of the most popular in history...

I agree with nrobyar whole heartedly.
And how the author can write something like this: "To know him is apparently not necessarily to love him", just demonstrates the incompetency of the writer. Huckabee won Arkansas with 60.3% of the vote during the Republican Primary. And he won re-election as Lt. Governor and Governor so there must be a lot of people in Arkansas, according to this writer, that do not know him since so many voted for him on at least 5 different occasions.

Evidently, the author underestimates Huckabee's popularity. He says "Note that his support is stronger in several states than in Arkansas, according to the website."
Hmmmmmm... considering that (in a state that leans left) in 1994 he was elected Lt. Governor with 58% of the vote, in 1998 was elected Governor with 60%, and in 2002 was able to hold that office with a 6% lead, not to mention that he garnered 90% and 85% of the vote in the 1998 and 2002 Republican gubernatorial primaries respectively, I'd say he's pretty popular in Arkansas!
And if his "support is stronger in several [other] states than in Arkansas"...

"Unlike Obama, he has SUBSTANCE to his powerful speeches..."
I agree, especially the "substance" in his RNC speech:
1) saying Sarah Palin had gotten more votes running for mayor of Wasilla than Joe Biden had gotten running for president
2) saying Abraham Lincoln founded the Republican Party.
3) misquoting Honest Abe, attributing a Gerald Ford quote to the great railsplitter.
And how about that "substance" from the October, 2007 Republican debate, when Huck said that the signers of the Declaration of Independence were "mostly clergymen."
Get a grip...
