Juanita's: New owner

NOT GOING ANYWHERE: Juanita's favorites to remain, with additions.

Juanita's, for 22 years a South Main Street mainstay for Tex-Mex food and live music, has new owners. Details on Eat Arkansas.

Would it be hard to justify Juanita's referring to itself as the king of Tex-Mex if fish tacos are added? Baja-Mex, maybe. Now that Tex-Mex as we know it is ubiquitous, if not overshadowed by the so-called "Authentic" Mex, I would love to see a restaurant such as Juanita's and its history move to offer more real Mex offerings, such as some of the items you'd find maybe at Chicago's Frontera Grill, owned by Rick Bayless.
Click name for what I mean.

That's better news than the rumors put out this past spring by a radio station and an AT blogger about some local hip-hoppers and rappers buying the place, closing down the restaurant, and going hip-hop and rap 24/7. I'm sorry that the youngsters will lose a place to go (don't worry, 21 is right around the corner! It'll be there 'fore you know it, kiddos!), but going 21 and up all the time might mean the bartenders and other servers can make a few dollars for a change. Not many of the underage would tip very much, if at all, after drowning themselves in cokes and bottled water.

Good luck to the new folks ... and keep the music diverse. Make me want to go there again.

Love Juanita's. Still miss the Blue Mesa.

I don't know if Jerk Chicken Fajitas are Tex, Mex, or Jamex or Mex Ja or whatever but they are DARN good....and cool off with that key lime pie um um...
