It's good that you feature the other reasons Senator McCain is losing:

Paul Gigot
Brit Hume
Billy Krystal
Newt Gingrich
Bill O'Really!

It's Neo Con ideas that are killing the Republicans and what a better representative group than the above.

.

NO premature celebrations!!! "Remember the Alamo" (and 2000, 2004)... It'll be over when it's over, and we've been saying here all along it SHOULD be a landslide, but then... It is inconceivable to me that ANY sane (non-racist) person could vote for McThuselah, even BEFORE he "selected" Caribou Barbie Moosejaw, YET did you read Paul Greenberg's pathetic treatise yesterday on why she's just the cat's meow? You cannot deny PG is an intelligent person, yet...you gotta read it!!

Surreal. And as my wife said "They actually believe it." Still SCARY!!
|

(OOPS - PG's column Sunday) And oh yeah, he actually said "I think of Sarah Palin and am young again."

gag (as in puke, not joke)

and "It's hard to remember that her opponent was even at the debate. Wasn't he just part of the set?"

Can HE really believe this bullshit or is he just that much of a flat-out LIAR???? Either way, I'll not hold my hand on my ass until he retracts his years-long abuse of Paul Krugman (who well in advance pretty much nailed the housing "bubble" and economic meltdown) - I'll get a cramp!

Yes Larry Paul Gigot can really believe his own shit. He's been in his Ivory Tower of the
Economics of Privilege far too long to know any better. Now the Tower is crumbling and to
save the mythical free markets and capitalism they must embrace socialism. But that will never
prevent him from being a political bigot.

It was Paul Gigot who dipped into gubbermint money and was paid by one of the most infamous
members of Bush's culture of corruption to stage the Wall Street Editorial Journal's Roundtable on
PBS. On that show it was all concurring ideas, never a different view point.

These are the True Believers Larry. They simply do not come down from their Ivory Towers often enough to view reality.

.

Didn't Paul Krugman just get a Nobel prize yesterday? I heard on NPR. I think it was a Nobel.

Since Paul Greenberg really really really touts his Pulitzer should he now be in awe of Krugman.

For those not up on it PG has been slamming Krugman for his "the sky is falling" predictions of the housing bubble burst and subprime meltdown. That is PG slammed Krugman till he proved to be 100% right.

Cit Home they both received Nobels but in different areas.

I posted this on yesterday's Greenberg thread, but what the hell, I'll put it here, too. eLwood, my review of the Smick book excerpt is on the Open Line thread. The guy's on top of it!

Hell's Bells, Hooray, and Aw Shucks

Paul Krugman, the New York Times columnist whose writing we've found a great source of bleak comedy, has just won the Nobel prize for economics.

And here we were carrying his stuff on the editorial page mainly to provide some balance for our own less trendy views.

No, we're not apologizing, but we're getting ready to if this kind of universal recognition for Mr. Krugman keeps up-even if we still think he couldn't write his way out of a paper bag. (His metaphors alone deserve the Nobel for Irish bulls.)

And, yes, we still think his comparing these economic conditions now, however volatile, to those of the Great Depression was ludicrous.

But anyone who's now joined the late great Milton Friedman in Nobel laureatehood deserves congratulations and a second opinion. After all, this isn't the Nobel for peace (once awarded to Yasser Arafat) or the one for literature, which regularly goes to some fashionable Comsymp even if a deserving writer or two (Solzhenitsyn) gets one on occasion. This is economics, and while it remains a dismal science and semi-mystical art, it's not entirely subjective.

Congratulations, Mr. Krugman. But hold that order of crow till the bread lines and apple sellers materialize. Cheers, despite this passing cloud, aka The Panic of '08, that you've mistaken for The Deluge.

They are just setting this up so they can claim it was McCain that lost the election and not their ideology.

White House hopeful Barack Obama talks a lot on the campaign trail about how failing banks have used subprime loans to victimize customers.
"Part of the reason we got a current mortgage crisis has to do with the fact that people got suckered in to loans that they could not pay," he told a crowd in Reading, Pa., "There were a lot of predatory loans that were given out, a lot of teaser rates. Banks and financial institutions making these loans were making money hand over fist."
One of the banks that went under after making a lot of subprime loans -- leaving 1,400 of its customers without part of their savings -- was Chicago's Superior Bank.
At the helm of Superior Bank at least some of the time was Obama's national finance chairwoman, Penny Pritzker, an heiress to the Pritzker fortune.
Obama's campaign notes that Pritzker stepped down as chairwoman of the bank's board in 1994, seven years before it failed. She then went on the board of the bank's holding company.
But a letter obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times shows that until the end, Pritzker appeared to be taking a leadership role in trying to revive the bank with an expanded push into subprime loans.
Pritzker wrote in May 2001 that her family was recapitalizing the bank, and she pledged to "once again restore Superior's leadership position in subprime lending." The bank shut down in July 2001.

3. Post your comment using the post button and voila` your screen name becomes a hyper link.

Believe me, it's much simpler than ' a href= ' html code.

eLwood, you can also google Penny Pritzker's name if you doubt the facts.

Is Obama for the People or the Banks?
By Moe Bedard

The President of the United States is to work for the common good of the people for which they represent and serve. Yes, represent and serve. They do not take the oval office to work for the "special interests" of corporate America and the money that fills their campaign buckets.

Or do they?

I have been watching Barrack Obama for quite sometime and what I have seen, has been nothing short of disappointing. Obama has been mostly silent in regards to his policy on the mortgage and housing crisis. He has done little to address the millions of Americans that are "suffering" as a result of these loans they were sold by irresponsible lenders.

I came across this interesting article in the Huffington Post by Earl Ofari Hutchinson. Here are some quotes that I thought I would share with my readers. Since they need to know what candidates truly have their backs. Meaning, which candidate is truly here for the people which they represent and the millions of homeowners that were swindled by the banks.

Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama says he'll crack down on fraudulent sub-prime lenders. If he really means it he can start by firing his campaign finance chair, Penny Pritzker. Before taking over Obama's campaign finances, she headed up the borderline shady and failed Superior Bank. It collapsed in 2002. The bank's sordid story and its abominable role in fueling the sub-prime crisis are well known and documented. It engaged in deceptive and faulty lending, questionable accounting practices, and charged hidden fees. It did it with the sleepy-eyed see-no-evil oversight of federal. It made thousands of dubious loans to mostly poor, strapped homeowners. A disproportionate number of them were minority.

I am not really familiar with this Penny Pritzker. So, I thought I would do a Google search and this is what I found. This is from wikipedia.

On February 20, 2008, Flashpoints Radioproduced an investigative report segment into how Penny Pritzker's possible role in the current predatory lending(aka. sub-prime) crisis. According to investigative reporter Tim Anderson, Superior Bank, FSB of Hinsdale, Illinois, was owned by the Pritzker family until closed by the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was named Receiver. Superior Bank was among the original lending institutions who used their investors money to purchase "subprime" mortgages for securitization. Pritzker banking resources working with Ernst & Young and Merrill Lynch developed the original mortgage securitation package, putting mortgages into a bond and then selling the bond. Like many banks nationwide, the decision to participate and underwrite subprime business ultimately proved fatal for their mortgage division.

And it gets better:

not paying enough detailed attention to MY OWN posts - mea culpa: MY "PG" reference was to our very own Paul Greenberg, not Paul Gigot...

PS LOVED Paul Gigot when he was 1/2 of "Shields & Gigot" back when...after it was Gergen & Shields. Before his neocon-inspired lobotomy.

Nice try All2fullofBS but no cigar.

Open Source, like Wikipedia, is to be questioned and checked from day to day, sometimes from hour to hour, because ANYONE can edit it.

Penny Pritzker is not Obama's "campaign finance chair" as erroneously stated above but, National Finance Chair. Big difference.

-She stepped down from the chairmanship (a largely titular role) in 1994 but continued to serve on the board of the holding company, Coast to Coast.

-In July 2001, FDIC seized the bank after the recapitalization could not be resolved. . Subsequently, the Pritzker family reached an agreement with regulators to pay $460 million over 15 years toward the costs of the closure.

-Responding to questions from the Wall Street Journal, Ms. Pritzker noted she had no ownership in the bank, either direct or indirect, and that the bank's reasons for failure "were complex.

"...how Penny Pritzker's possible role.."
See, language like the above keeps a sleeze from having his/her ass sued off.

If this gaggle of world-class pricks is against McCain maybe he ain't THAT bad, after all.

Every one of these smokin' piles of doo will be shilling for Huckabee by February.

Head of McCain Transition Team Illegally Worked For Saddam

Murray Wass:

William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime.

The two lobbyists who Timmons worked closely with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein's government.

During the same period beginning in 1992, Timmons worked closely with the two lobbyists, Samir Vincent and Tongsun Park, on a previously unreported prospective deal with the Iraqis in which they hoped to be awarded a contract to purchase and resell Iraqi oil. Timmons, Vincent, and Park stood to share at least $45 million if the business deal went through.

SNIP

sidney- you talking about Moe Bedard, the convicted felon? Blue name.

If true, you may not want to tie yourself too closely to him. Guilt by association, you know, McCain/Palin game rules. It's gonna (Palinism) look bad for you to be in bed with a convicted felon!

sidney,
What's the pay scale for what you do?
Tell your uppers that you're here in Ark (?)
swinging the vote for McCain and you need
a raise.

oops.
Didn't even take notice.

sidney and All2fullofBS are a tag team.

R u up 2 $8.50 hr ???

What? Someone isn't eligible to be President because they're connected to a failed bank? Good God, we're back at square zero.

I like the news that's coming out today about McCain's transition chairman lobbying for Saddam. A terrorist, ahem.

Great find Sound Policy. My dog prevented me from searching. It was bath day for her then that requires an exceptionally long walk..treats...keeping the stud dogs away (heat time) and so on.

But with sheez like that on old Moe you would think

all2fullofBS and sidney may lose that

$8.40 per hour they get for hit n runs.
