Media layoff watch

I mentioned the other day that the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the largest property of Stephens Media, an arm of the Little Rock-based financial empire, was trimming dozens of workers because of the economic downturn. I remarked that Stephens employees in Arkansas -- and elsewhere -- undoubtedly hoped that trend would stay in Las Vegas.

Maybe not. The Arkansas Project says cuts are coming to Stephens' Washington bureau. Who knows what else?

Does this mean Stephen's Ark News Bureau will be laying off Brummett and John will want to
return to the Ark. Times as editor?

Brummett and Sanders would be the best columnists to lay off. Of the two, Sanders by far would be the least missed.
