Mining for gold in Argenta
New Argenta Development will start knocking down the old Mountaire feed mill at Fifth and Poplar in North Little Rock tomorrow. About four blocks north of Alltel Arena will be cleared for an as-yet-unspecified mixed use development. It's a project of the same group that has been responsible for several other new additions to the Argenta Neighborhood.
Bigwigs will assemble at 10 a.m. for a ceremonial beginning of the clearance work, which should take about three months.

Speaking of tearing down & rebuilding --- any word on the progress of the old University Mall property? It's standing there naked and forlorn.

Glad they're tearing it down. I suspect it's the source of the rotting carcass smell i've noticed rolling down Main street in Argenta recently.
Don't know about Mallocalypse, but if they're waiting on the loan to be approved it might be a minute before anything happens there.

It would take an industrial strength pair of balls to do a "mixed use developement" in today's climate.
Every cloud has a silver lining and the current upheaval is causing petroleum cost to return to a more normal level and Bass Pro TIF in Dark Hollow seems to be dead in the water/wetlands.

I've tried repeatedly to try to post a google maps link to the mill but my post never shows up....

I'm glad to see the feed mill leaving. I was at the Argenta Farmers' Market a couple of weeks ago, and the stench coming out of that place ranks up there with the rankest.
Ah, the smells we must endure to live in the Big Big City. If a front's coming, I get to smell Pine Bluff Paper Mill. On occasion, the spew from the railroad tie plant can wilt vegetation. I can't imagine what those poor souls in Rose City must smell every day. Kinda makes one miss the days of vanilla wafers wafting in the willows.
