Oh boy. How's THIS for Razorback bulletin board material?
"Ole Miss visits Arkansas on Saturday, and if there is any justice in the world, former Arkansas coach Houston Nutt will turn his Ole Miss Rebels into an instrument of vengeance and hang half-a-hundred on the Hogs in front of their home crowd. And then he'll score again. And again. And again. Run it up, Houston Nutt. That's what I'm saying. That's what would be appropriate. That's what the lunatic fringe in Arkansas deserves. Run it up so badly that Arkansas fans in attendance leave in the third quarter because they can't stand the sight of your fist in the air."

I went to vote today, stood in line for over 30 minutes, and discovered that 15% of the 2004 voters have already voted early.
Since I live in a backward, redneck town, I was not encouraged that most of the voters were 50+.
Went downtown today and was standing in line to pay when I heard an employee lecture an elderly lady about how Obama's said in his book that he would "take the Muslim's side against Christians."
I was outraged, went over to the elderly lady and put my arm around her, and looked directly at the employee and told her how full of shit she was and that I would not be coming back. I then escorted the lady outside and talked to her for a few minutes, reassured her that she had done nothing wrong by voting for Obama.
I also called the owner of the business when I got back to my office and ranted at him. Didn't get far, unfortunately. So, another one bites the dust when it comes to me spending my dollars.

Houston is a college coach who got fired. By the University I might add.
High School and College are two different things.

UPDATE: Add Charles Fried, a Harvard Law professor and former Solicitor General in the Reagan administration, to the list of Republicans supporting Obama. Fried's vote for the Democratic ticket is particularly harsh, as he was associated with the McCain campaign. Fried voted absentee for Obama this week, and informed McCain campaign general counsel Trevor Potter of his decision in a letter where he stated he could not support McCain in large part because of his selection of Palin as his running mate.

I feel sorry for her, because a 20 year old is not fully cooked, and I blame her elders for filling her head with such a load of shit that she got herself into a frenzy that she would harm herself for the cause.
But, still, she should be punished for filing a false report and fined for all costs involved.

Strange says "he was given a crummy deal". Really? He signs a contract that would require him to pay back some of his exhorbitant salary if he leaves and when he gets his feelings hurt over valid criticism over some idiotic decisions he makes, the university tears up that agreement and pays him MILLIONS to leave? How exactly is that "crummy"?
This is my official notice to any organizations that would like my expertise: I will honor any agreement you make with until it is no longer convenient for me, then I will focus my efforts on anything other than what you hired me for. To get me to leave, I will need a few hundred thousand. I'm not as famous as HDN, but these are hard times and I'm willing to cut you a break.

Jazzy,
Storyville was the prostitution district of New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1897 through 1917. Locals usually simply referred to the area as The District. The nickname Storyville was in reference to city alderman Sidney Story, who wrote the legislation setting up the district. It was bounded by Iberville, Basin, St. Louis, and Robertson streets. Most of this former district is now occupied by the Iberville Housing Projects, two blocks inland from the Le Vieux Carre. (Wikipedia)
Although, I do have great memories of a steakhouse in Algiers and wandering around one Saturday, unsuccessfully trying to find the naval station to buy some Seafarer's dungarees. Irretrievably lost, we stopped at a old frame grocery store named "Joe Sinatra's" and had some of the best muffeletas ever. Then laughed all the way back to River Ridge about wondering where Frank was that day and how Joe migrated from New Jersey.
Jimmy's Music Club was the one I remember, on Willow with a clientele from Tulane and Loyola and Tip's (Tipitina's) was on Tchopitulas behind the Commander's Palace with a bust of Professor Longhair in the middle of the dance floor. You could never go in and stand for more than a minute or two without being invited to dance and being taught how to two-step, if you didn't know how.
I do remember the Preservation Jazz Hall. Storyville Jazz Hall was/is a venue for concerts. The video of The Neville Brother's, Bonnie Raitt and Gregg Allman "Tell It Like It Is" was a one hour 1980's concert available on DVD with performances by Ed Bradley (the 60 Minutes Reporter) and Dennis Quaid. It's available on Amazon and is a great example of what serendipitous performances occur in N'awlins when you go clubbing and N'Awlin's musicians sit in. "Laissez le bon temps roulez" is definitely a convivial social experience and the music is never constrained by any genre or anything except being good and entertaining.
And let them get irritated, the one's that do would probably think lunch at Popeye's on Poydras was "un bon temps."

Yesterday on my way to lunch at Doe's, I passed one of the homeless guys in that area, with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money."
Once in the Doe's my waiter had on a "Obama 08" tee shirt.
When the bill came, I decided not to tip the waiter and explained to him while he had given me exceptional service, that his tee shirt made me feel he obviously believes in Senator Obama's plan to redistribute the wealth. I told him I was going to redistribute his tip to someone that I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. He stood there in disbelief and angrily stormed away.
I went outside, gave the homeless guy $3 and told him to thank the waiter inside, as I had decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy looked at me in disbelief but seemed grateful.
As I got in my truck, I realized this rather unscientific redistribution experiment had left the homeless guy quite happy for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn.
Well, I guess this redistribution of wealth is going to take a while to catch on, with those doing the work.

Here is a joke I heard today, you all should get a kick out of it:
The Pope is visiting DC, and Palin takes him out for an afternoon on the Potomac They're admiring the sights when, all of a sudden, the Pope's hat blows off his head and out into the water. Secret service guys start to launch a boat, but Palin waves them off, saying "Wait, wait. I'll take care of this. Don't
worry."
Palin steps onto the surface of the water and walks out to the Holy Father's little hat, bends over and picks it up, then walks back. She hands the hat to the Pope amid stunned silence.
The next morning, the Washington Post, NY TImes, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, and CNN carry a story, complete with photos of the event. The banner headline reads: "Palin Can't Swim!"

That's o.k. Catfish Scarfer. That's the same attitude toward gratuities and service that all CCRRR's evince. The rest of us will make-up for your pettiness.
Despite your boy Bush's best errors to redistribute my savings, 403b, 401k to the good ol' Wall Street scions and reduce them to the initial investment, I can still show my appreciation of good service with an appropriate gratuity and I'll still be able to retire next year. Although my expected travel will be curtailed for a few years.
Since I worked my way through the last years at the University and graduate school as a waiter, bartender, among other jobs, I won't begrudge he/she the deserved tip for service if they wear a McCain/Palin t-shirt nor will I keep it to the minimum 10% or stingy 5%, I would expect to normally find left at your table.
P.S. I would be careful about eating at Doe's for a while. Waiters have long memories and your show of pettiness and undirected retribution removes a lot of the restrictions of good manners from that waiter's treatment of your orders in the future.

Strange, didn't McCain vote for and Bush sign the bill giving a $300-1200 rebate? I guess you missed that "welfare" (as you call it) give away? You didn't have to pay any taxes to get that rebate. And the more you earned, the less you got. Now explain how the Bush/McCain rebate was different?

Dang,
Why are y'all attacking me for helping the homeless guy? I didn't take money from the homeless guy and give to the waiter, who makes too much money in my opinion. I ensured that the Patriotic thing was done and shared the waiters prosperity with the homeless guy. Geeeshhh...doesn't the homeless guy (who doesn't work, or pay taxes) deserve to share in a portion of the waiters pie and success?
You can't say I was being petty with an Obama supporter, after all, the Homeless guy did have an Obam sign.

Catfish Eater --
Thank you so much for sharing your soul with us.
You'll only tip waiters who agree with your politics. They do their best to serve you, but since you don't agree with their political T-Shirts during a hotly-polarized Presidential Election, you "punish" them by not tipping.
A choice based not on their table service, but their political affiliation.
Then, out of spite toward a server who disagrees with your political preference, you give $3 to the "homeless" person outside to make your cutesy point here on the blog about "redistributing wealth."
You have no idea whether that person is homeless or not. All you know is he or she is looking for a freebie for doing nothing to contribute to society but freeloading rather than working -- at ANY job, at any pay scale, or seeking assistive social services, rehabilitation or help in "getting off the street."
Nah. Not you. You'd rather enable bums than support working people who disagree with your politics.
Charming. SO admirable on your part.
In your rage, you go out of your way just to insult somebody who IS working (and hard: ever waited tables, Catfish? No. You have no idea).
Ironically, your post reveals not only YOUR soul, but the soul of the entire Republican party.
"Agree with me politically or I will go out of my way to hurt and punish you economically to make my partisan point."
We GET it, honey, after the last eight years.
Your personal "tipping" policy is not only petty, hateful, punitive and completely irrational, it is play-ground juvenile.
Thank you for revealing your soul to us here on the blog.
And pray, my darling, you and I never run into each other in a dark alley.
I'm a Black Belt and know EXACTLY where -- on your puny physical and mental anatomy -- to slam my knee before you know it's coming.
And I mean that in a nice way.
You just joined the tiny club of bloggers here whom the rest of us can safely ignore henceforth.
Unbelievable!
Oh, wait: No it's not.
Considering your "political preference."

The Congress sent that welfare check to the public to stimulate consumer spending. 20 cents of each dollar was spent and the rest was used to retire debt. Again, if you want to retire the debt you can send those checks back. Did you send yours back regardless of whether you paid income taxes or not? We had to borrow that money from China and it only significantly increased our debt more. I didn't get one. Did you get one? Did you send it back?

Well, it is simple to determine who you ignore. You ignore anyone you don't agree with. You don't have to be a PHD to figure that. You don't answer questions that make you look bad and expose your bankrupt ideology. You guys are pretty transparent. Catfish raises questions and points out, very well I might add, your hypocrisy. You all have monotone brainwaves and you practice what Huxley calls 'rightthink'. Nothing new here.

That is the only scenario where he pays more taxes under the Obama plan.

Per non-partisan Tax Policy center, if the Doe's waiter is making between 38k and 66k per year, he will save $723 under Obama's tax plan.

Perfect characterization of yourself strange.
We're still waiting to hear which Democrats have endorsed McCain I'm betting you can't come up with any. If there was a list at all, it wouldn't be nearly as impressive as the Republicans who have endorsed Obama. So don't try to put down the ever-growing list of Republicans who have become Obama supporters. It just emphasizes that you are a bitter old man whose candidate is losing. (and yes I know you say you don't support either candidate, but your actions and words say otherwise).

Obama will win by a landslide! I have the sign! I have the sign! I got an email last night from my dead father's little sister who will be 78 next month. While discussing the health of the baby of the family who is dying from colon cancer, she just happened to mention that she and her husband were undecided about how to vote this year..................I NEARLY FELL OUT OF MY CHAIR!
Here are 2 people who have voted Republican since their first vote. They're Christian with a big C, the good kind, ya know and I just figured there was no way they'd switch horses after 50 plus years voting Republican. That they'd even pause to think made me go to bed smiling.
THEY BOTH VOTED FOR OBAMA TODAY! I'm pinching myself! Is this a dream? I got her email......I keep reading it......THEY BOTH VOTED FOR OBAMA TODAY! Holy Sweet Mother of God! The rivers are running backwards! The sun is circling the earth! It is a new day in America!
"We voted this morning - absentee - I have a medical procedure on the 3rd of November - and knew I should do my voting now. We voted for Obama -- I think he will win." OHMAGOD! I can't get enough of reading these words! Bush-Cheney-McCain ran off Aunt Betty and Uncle Leonard! OHMAGOD!
So be of good cheer! In just a few months we'll be singing Happy Days Are Here Again!

We can wish. Read a newspaper article today about Greenspan warning (yes he still does it)
that more and deeper unemployment lies ahead.
Rev Mojo you may wish to google up that story. You know in 4-6 months every loser wingnut
on these pages will be blaming the collapse on BHO.
Cheney/Bush meltdown is going to be diffcult...for most of us. It's going to last awhile too.
Some dogs on here will be forced to learn new tricks.
Arf, Arf!
If you were holding oil company stocks the price of oil is falling. Cheney's secret 2001
engineered bubble is bursting as they all do in about 7 yr spans.
Oh Wait! It was the Demo conservationist who were forcing up the price of oil! Now it's back down in less than one year after they were saying it, all in unison too. Now what?
Demo conservationists are magic? Dick Cheney is magic? Bush is powerful in the MidEast.
After all, he holds hands and kisses the Arabs.

A tip of the hat to Rev Mojo...you did good!
Strangeglove is gulping for air as his ship slowly sinks...that's OK strange...that's what this country is about...the right to have your say without fear of oppression, being spied on, lied to, thrown in jail without being charged and tortured, wait did I just say that...you can go down with your ship strange or you can regroup. I have no problem with the tenents of the republican party, my problem is that your party has been hijacked by power mad and narrow minded people who have turned those tenents on their head or perverted them...in a way, similar to the extreme left of the democratic party in the 60s. We need a two party system strange but one that works for the good of the country not the party.
I think its time for a change strange and it is not just the ones who post here, there are many many Americans who think the same, the current administration has not measured up to the needs of the country. Regardless of your beliefs, if you are a thinking man and not an idealogue you should understand that as well. I'm not asking for a conversion or lessening of your opinions just that when you pull the lever, think about the country and not the party.

Well, I'm late to the conversation, as usual, but I'd also tell you to shove your three dollars up your cheap Republican ass, catfish. Your argument is ridiculous and your tactics meaningless grandstanding...and at the expense of someone who's working damn hard for little money.
It's a 'sin' what we've allowed restaurant owners to do the salaries of waitresses/waiters. Places like Waffle House are allowed to pay less than $2 an hour because they can 'allegedly' count tips as part of the required minimum wage; and it was Republicans who decided to go after those zillions in tips that wait people were keeping from Uncle Sam. But when it comes to the Wall Street goobers who've trashed the economy/their companies through unmitigated greed...give em tax dollars...tax dollars straight from all those wealthy waitresses/waiters.
No wonder the American public is sick of you.
I hope ole Joe runs, jazzy...he is a typical lying, grandstanding Republican.
Bill Maher's show was, as usual, great. But I think Tim Robbins has the pessimism bug my hubby's been spreading. While the Republican guests (former Republicans) said Obama would win by double digits, he was adamant that it was going to be close and that Republicans were busy trying to steal another election.
The latest nut-wing Internet fairy tale is that there is ABSOLUTE proof that Obama's birth certificate is fake...that his family denounced his citizenship when they lived in Indonesia because of some Indonesia law/whatever. And, the person who told me this KNOWS it all to be true and challenged me to prove it was wrong. I told him that IF there was ANY truth to Obama not being legally qualified to be prez, you can bet that the Clintons would've brought it forward...'cause WE ALL KNOW HOW SLEAZY THE CLINTONS ARE...right! Well...he had to agree with that...but...
Lord...have mercy on our country and all those who use your name for political gain. But mostly...deliver us from the ignorance that threatens to send us back to the Dark Ages...back to witch burnings. (And, please help him out, Goddess, his plate runneth over these days.)
Has anyone noticed that Limpbaugh is fat, REALLY FAT, again....what a Republican roll model: Three divorces, drug addiction and a fat ass...and yet he yammers on about 'values' 'God'...about Obama's trips to his dying grandmother being a smokescreen for something devious, underhanded. I don't think Republicans could get anymore pathetic if they tried.

Don't you people ever sleep? Yes, you are going to get 'change'. The question is will you still love change in the morning. What we all have facing us will cause you to distance yourself from obama during the next four years. It will be like when jimmy was president and I couldn't find anyone who voted for him. Most of you were glad to see him leave. That scenario will repeat itself but it will be far worse in jimmy's second term in office. Remember that you heard this first here on this date from Dr. Strangelove. I don't expect you to acknowledge this now but the day will come when you will understand what I am saying now.

Joke Of The Day...
Rush Limbaugh's Chauffeur
Rush Limbaugh and his chauffeur were out driving in the country and accidentally hit and killed a pig that had wandered out on a country road.
Limbaugh told the chauffeur to drive up to the farm and apologize to the farmer.
They drove up to the farm, the chauffeur got out and knocked on the front door and was let in. He was in there for what seemed hours. When he came out, Limbaugh was confused about why his employee had been there so long.
"Well, first the farmer shook my hand, then he offered me a beer, then his wife brought me some cookies, and his daughter showered me with kisses," explained the driver.
"What did you tell the farmer?" Limbaugh asked.
The chauffeur replied, "I told him that I was Rush Limbaugh's driver and I'd just killed the pig."
